BTTH: Rebirth of Liu Xi

A wave of astonished murmurs rippled through the hall the instant Liu Xi spoke the name of the pill — Dou Ling Pill. Among all 6th Tier pills, this name stood at the very pinnacle of fame.

The Dou Ling Pill was renowned for its miraculous effect — it allowed a Dou Wang to increase their strength by one full star without any side effects. Though each Dou Wang could only take one in their lifetime, that limitation did nothing to diminish its prestige. Among the countless experts stuck at bottlenecks, this pill was the dream of a lifetime.

Its sibling, the Mighty Huang Pill, was equally formidable, granting the same benefit to Dou Huang experts. That was precisely why once an alchemist ascended to the 6th Tier, their influence expanded dramatically — their value no longer measured merely in wealth, but in the power to shape the balance of the entire continent.

Power that could be swallowed was power impossible to resist.

Thus, when Liu Xi calmly announced his intent to refine the Dou Ling Pill, the entire hall erupted in disbelief and excitement.

Even Fa Ma, the president of the Alchemist Association, couldn’t hide the spark of yearning in his aged eyes. The Dou Ling Pill — that was the very pill he had dreamed of refining all his life, yet never succeeded in producing. He possessed the pill recipe, the knowledge, the skill… but lacked the crucial final leap — control of flame and spirit.

He hesitated for a long moment, then said with restrained politeness, ”Nephew Liu, do you have any special requirements for the refinement environment? If possible, would you allow us to observe your process? Of course—if this brings inconvenience, we would never force it.”

Liu Xi smiled lightly. ”There’s no need to worry, President Fa Ma. You may watch as much as you wish, as long as no one disturbs my concentration.”

Fa Ma’s eyes brightened, his gratitude sincere. ”Then we are truly indebted to you.”

Behind him, Qie Mi’er and the other high-tier alchemists could hardly contain their excitement. For them, watching a 6th Tier Alchemist at work was a rare opportunity — perhaps once in a lifetime. Every motion, every adjustment of flame, every rhythm of control carried secrets that could lead to breakthroughs.

In the alchemic world, low-tier alchemists often refined pills before their seniors to receive critique. But a high-tier master demonstrating their craft before juniors? That was an honor nearly unheard of — reserved only for one’s closest disciples.

To witness such an event today meant that many in this room might later call Liu Xi ”teacher,” for by the alchemist’s code, enlightenment granted was a form of instruction.

Liu Xi scanned the interior of the Association, his gaze finally settling on the spacious southern hall. ”President Fa Ma, I’ll conduct the refinement there,” he said with a faint smile. ”That location seems suitable enough, doesn’t it?”

Fa Ma followed his gaze — and his hand trembled slightly from excitement. ”Excellent choice! We’ll have the southern hall cleared immediately. Qie Mi’er, see to it at once!”

”Yes, sir!”

The reason for their excitement was simple — the southern hall was the Association’s teaching ground, where instructors guided apprentices. If Liu Xi refined a 6th Tier pill there, every alchemist in the Association could witness history firsthand. For the Alchemist Association, this was not merely an event; it was a festival, a testament to prestige.

Liu Xi himself didn’t care much whether anyone watched. As long as no one disrupted him, they were free to stare. With his current skill, most of these onlookers would only see dazzling gestures — few could truly understand the artistry.

Under Qie Mi’er’s efficient command, the southern hall was quickly emptied, and within moments, a crowd surrounded it in tight formation, layer upon layer, eyes shining with excitement.

When Liu Xi arrived, the hall had fallen silent under Fa Ma’s firm direction. The air was charged, tense, almost sacred. Even those usually talkative apprentices stood quietly, hearts pounding, waiting.

Liu Xi walked in alongside Hai Bodong, Lu Man, and Qing Lin. His teacher, Xuan Hao, was busy keeping order, having sworn that no one — not even the vice president — would be allowed to disturb his beloved disciple during the refinement.

Fa Ma glanced toward the approaching group. He recognized Hai Bodong immediately — his old friend. The fact that the Ice Emperor had survived Medusa’s wrath and returned alive was already a miracle in itself.

As for the two women, Fa Ma didn’t recognize them. But then again, what great alchemist didn’t have attendants and admirers? Especially beautiful ones. He chuckled inwardly. Back in his youth, he too had been handsome, refined, and oh, the number of young ladies who—

He coughed sharply, cutting off his wandering memories. ”Ahem. Nephew Liu, what do you think? Shall we begin?”

Liu Xi nodded calmly. ”Yes. Let’s start now.”

He tapped his foot lightly and rose into the air, descending gracefully onto the central platform. His movements were fluid, effortless — every gesture radiating confidence.

Dozens of fervent gazes followed him, yet his expression remained utterly tranquil. With a flick of his finger across his storage ring, a massive crimson cauldron appeared out of thin air.

Boom!

The cauldron landed heavily upon the stone dais, its surface engraved with fiery cloud-like patterns that seemed to flow with molten light. As heat waves surged outward, the entire hall’s temperature rose noticeably.

Then, one by one, Liu Xi withdrew the herbs he had prepared — two complete sets, no excess, no waste.

He extended his hand, and with a soft whoosh, a pale blue flame bloomed upon his palm. Though quiet and elegant, the surrounding air instantly distorted, trembling with invisible force.

All eyes locked onto that flame. To alchemists, fire was sacred — the essence of life and creation.

With a smooth motion, Liu Xi tossed the flame into the cauldron. It struck the furnace base with a muffled roar, flaring violently before stabilizing into a steady azure blaze.

The next moment, a surge of Spiritual Power burst from Liu Xi’s brow, flooding into the cauldron. Under his control, the Heavenly Flame split into dozens of smaller streams, each precise, each alive.

He began to feed the ingredients — root after root, petal after petal — into the cauldron. Each fragment of herb was instantly wrapped by its own stream of flame, refined at subtly differing temperatures, perfectly attuned to its nature.

Soon, more than ten azure flames danced in perfect harmony, each working independently yet never interfering with the others. Under the scorching purification of the Green Lotus Core Flame, the herbs’ physical forms began to dissolve at a pace visible to the naked eye, leaving only pure liquid essence behind.

The crowd stared in awe.

This was not mere skill — this was art.

The sight of Liu Xi’s flawless control, the majesty of his flame, and the vast, steady Spiritual Power that filled the air left even seasoned alchemists breathless. None dared blink, afraid to miss even a single movement.

And thus, beneath a hundred fervent gazes, the refinement of the Dou Ling Pill — the pill that would make Liu Xi’s name resound across the continent — had truly begun.
