Ghost Catching System

The Black Water Ghost King completely lost his mind. He was ready to fight anyone, but this toad was utterly disgusting. Of all the tactics you could use, you had to spit saliva! he fumed internally.

The toad exclaimed excitedly, ”Kiddo Chu, quickly hit him with the fan!”

Chu Hao rolled his eyes. I’d love to, he thought, but instead, he hurriedly took out Magic Recovery Potions and guzzled down one bottle after another.

The Ghost King roared again, and the ancient tomb shook even more violently, causing upheaval throughout the mountain range.

”What’s happening?”

The Fierce Ghosts of the mountain range awoke one by one.

Fortunately, his mana recovered quickly. Chu Hao looked at the Black Water Ghost King. He had absolutely no desire to use the Devouring Ghost Technique on him; the toad’s saliva was simply too disgusting.

Chu Hao took out the Greenwood Flame Fan and declared, ”You think you can kill 300,000 people? This Taoist Master will send you to the Western Paradise right now!”

Seeing the Greenwood Flame Fan, the Black Water Ghost King became extremely wary. The power of the Greenwood Flame had even annihilated Black Ghosts. Although he was a Ghost King, he couldn’t withstand it.

The Black Water Ghost King immediately chickened out. ”Wait! Don’t use the fan! Let’s talk this over nicely,” he pleaded.

Chu Hao paid him no mind. It’s best to destroy such a Ghost King as soon as possible. Slaughter a county of 300,000 people? In your ghostly dreams!

”Ding! Host used Greenwood Flame, consuming 20,000 Mana Points.”

With a wave of the Greenwood Flame Fan, the Greenwood Flame engulfed the Black Water Ghost King. He let out a piercing scream. Within seconds, only a dark scorch mark remained on the wall; even the toad’s saliva had been incinerated.

”Ding! SS-rank mission completed. Host did not meet all requirements. Awarded 4,000,000 Experience Points.”

”Ding! SS-rank mission completed. Host did not meet all requirements. Awarded 50,000 Merit Points.”

”Ding! SS-rank mission completed. Host did not meet all requirements. Awarded two Diamond Treasure Chests.”

The mission was finally completed, though only half of it.

”Ding! Host successfully showed off. Awarded 2,000 Pretentiousness Points.”

The toad was dumbfounded. ”What a powerful fan,” it said.

The Ghost Sutras were also surprised, sensing a great threat from this fan.

Chu Hao sighed. Only fifty percent completed. This trip was practically a waste, all because of this damned toad! Spitting saliva, of all things! How could Brother Hao swallow that?

With the death of the Black Water Ghost King, Ghost King Valley ceased to exist.

However, the Resentful Ghost Army suddenly erupted. The pit where tens of thousands had been buried alive now teemed with innumerable corpses and Corpse Monsters crawling out from the soil, their sky-high resentment refusing to dissipate.

When Chu Hao returned to the surface, he saw the Resentful Ghost Army—ghosts and Corpse Monsters alike—marching out of the mountains.

Chu Hao’s face turned grim.

He grabbed the Female Ghost Lady and asked, ”What’s going on here?”

The Female Ghost Lady said fearfully, ”The Great King has always been a fugitive wanted by the Underworld. His ability to evade capture and enjoy his life here was entirely due to this Resentful Ghost Army. Now that the Great King is dead, their resentment can no longer be suppressed.”

So that’s how it is, Chu Hao thought.

There were far too many Resentful Ghosts. The ones he had killed previously were merely a drop in the ocean. Now, he saw them densely packed in every corner of the mountain range—easily over ten thousand of them. It was a terrifying sight.

The resentment radiating from this army was overwhelming. If they escaped the mountains, they would likely kill any human on sight. Their march towards the outside world meant that if they reached human society, it would be a catastrophe of epic proportions.

Anxious, Chu Hao asked, ”System, is there anything that can suppress this group of Resentful Ghosts?”

System: ”Recommend Host purchase the Chu Demon-Subduing Ghost Banner. Cost: 20,000 Pretentiousness Points.”

Chu Hao checked his Pretentiousness Points.

Pretentious Little Prince: Chu Hao

Level: 2

Experience Points: 19,000,000/30,000,000

Pretentiousness Points: 6,000

Mana Points: 25,000

Merit Points: 130,000

Ghost Servants: Zhao Yun, Zhang Fei, Confucius, Sadako, Chu Renmei, Jiayeci, Ghost Dragon (Qiu)

Title: King of Funeral Love (Proclaiming ”King of Funeral Love” grants intimidation power.)

Treasure Chests: Diamond Treasure Chest x2, Golden Treasure Chest x1

Chu Hao considered his 6,000 Pretentiousness Points. The banner cost 20,000. He mused that even if he could somehow convert all his 130,000 Merit Points and add them to his current Pretentiousness Points, his effective total would only reach 19,000, leaving him 1,000 short.

His only hope lay in the treasure chests he still possessed: two Diamond Treasure Chests. He hoped to get Pretentiousness Points or a discount card.

”Open treasure chest.”

”Ding! Host opened a Diamond Treasure Chest. Obtained Mercury Lotus.”

Item: Mercury Lotus (Herbal Medicine)

Rarity: ★★★

Effect: One of the medicinal herbs used in the Late Foundation Building Stage, can be planted in water.

There was one Diamond Treasure Chest left. If this doesn’t work, I’ll have to face that vast Resentful Ghost Army myself, Chu Hao thought.

”Bodhisattva Guan Yin, please bless me! I need Pretentiousness Points! Open treasure chest!” Chu Hao prayed fervently.

”Ding! Host opened a Diamond Treasure Chest. Obtained a 20% Off Discount Card.”

Yes!

Excited, Chu Hao exclaimed, ”Purchase!”

”Ding! Host purchased the Chu Demon-Subduing Ghost Banner using a 20% Off Discount Card. Spent 16,000 Pretentiousness Points. Remaining Pretentiousness Points: 2,000.”

Item: Chu Demon-Subduing Ghost Banner

Rarity: ★★★★

Ability: Subdue Fierce Ghosts and Corpse Monsters below Ghost King level. Assimilate them into the banner to be refined into the user’s own Fierce Ghosts. Capacity: 30,000.

(Note: Absorbing one costs 10 Mana Points; refining one costs 100 Mana Points. Higher-level Fierce Ghosts or Corpse Monsters require more Mana Points.)

This banner is incredible! It can absorb all Fierce Ghosts and Corpse Monsters below Ghost King level. Does that mean it can even capture Semi-Ghost Kings?

Chu Hao took out the Chu Demon-Subduing Ghost Banner. It was a flag about a meter long, adorned with Ghost Curse runes that made it look exceptionally mystical.

Chu Hao positioned himself before the Resentful Ghost Army. These Resentful Ghosts were incredibly aggressive; upon spotting a living being, they pounced forward as if they had gone mad.

The horrific resentment and Ghost Qi were so intense that even Chu Hao found them nearly unbearable. If not for the True Qi circulating within his body, he felt he wouldn’t even be able to move.

No wonder, Chu Hao mused. They were buried alive, so their resentment was inherently massive. Suppressed for who knows how many years, their now-gathered resentment is terrifyingly potent—enough to make even a Ghost King’s scalp tingle. That must be why the Underworld allowed the Black Water Ghost King to run rampant here.

Only the Black Water Ghost King could suppress them. After all, he was the one who buried them alive, instilling an inherent fear in them.

Now that the Black Water Ghost King was dead, they had finally erupted.

The Resentful Ghost Army was overwhelming in both its numbers and its terrifying aura.

Chu Hao no longer hesitated. He thrust the Chu Demon-Subduing Ghost Banner into the earth and began to chant a string of incantations.

”Banner of treasured name hung high, ghost curses boundless and wide. Scripture complete, the banner falls, cloud pennants to heaven ride! Swiftly, as by jade decree commanded!”

The Chu Demon-Subduing Ghost Banner erupted with Ghost Curse runes that swept out like lightning in all directions. Any member of the Resentful Ghost Army struck by the runes turned into a stream of black smoke and was sucked into the banner.

”Ding! Absorbed 300 Resentful Ghosts and Corpse Monsters. Consumed 3,000 Mana Points.”

”Ding! Absorbed 300 Resentful Ghosts and Corpse Monsters. Consumed 3,000 Mana Points.”

”Ding! Absorbed 300 Resentful Ghosts and Corpse Monsters. Consumed 3,000 Mana Points.”

As the system notifications chimed repeatedly, Resentful Ghosts were continuously absorbed into the Chu Demon-Subduing Ghost Banner. After only a short while, Chu Hao realized he had completely run out of Mana Points.
