Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All

Verity:

I kept a completely neutral expression, as if I were genuinely frightened of the stalker.

”The magic. Yes, that has to be it,” I muttered.

”Well, isn’t that scary?” I added quietly.

He stared at me once again.

”I see you’re working double shifts. Seems like money is tight,” he added.

Apparently, insulting someone’s financial situation was the siblings’ favorite way of looking down on people.

”No, actually, I’m single, and my boyfriend is a doctor. So if I wanted to be like certain other women, I’d just stay at his condo,” I replied.

I could tell he understood exactly who I was hinting at.

His leech of a sister.

Silence lingered for a few more moments.

Finally, he made a dismissive gesture, silently telling me to leave.

He didn’t comment on my boyfriend, though.

It seemed like he was in a hurry, and I wondered why.

But I let it go for now.

I had too many things on my mind.

I began to walk away, constantly glancing back and noticing how he fixed his hair before going inside.

It just didn’t look right.

Once I reached the road, I pulled out my phone and started calling a cab.

An incoming call on my other phone made my heart skip a beat.

It rarely ever rang, but whenever it did, I knew what it meant.

I gulped as I looked at the screen.

There was only one word on the caller ID.

Not a full name.

I had never saved it that way.

O.

I didn’t answer the call, but I read the message.

O: When are you coming? I’m waiting desperately.

I clenched my jaw and slipped the phone back into my bag.

It was becoming so difficult to juggle so many side quests.

The cab arrived, and I slipped inside.

My phone had become a fucking hotel bell.

Every few seconds, one phone or the other would ring.

Roman was also calling me nonstop and sending text messages, asking if I was upset with him.

He even sent me a prescription recommended by his therapist to show me that he wasn’t usually like this, that he just had been dealing with aggression these days.

I wasn’t sure what was going on.

But I only replied, It’s all right.

When I arrived home, I started packing my bags.

Ragnar had told me in his email to have them ready because we would be traveling between the three packs to investigate the monster sightings, strike a deal with the alphas, and possibly form a project to relocate the rogue community into a fenced area before clearing the surrounding land.

However, all three packs would have to invest money for such a massive project and cleanup effort to begin.

They also needed to agree with one another.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t work.

This seemed to be another chance for me to spark something with Alpha King Ragnar.

The problem was that the more opportunities I got with him, the more I realized I didn’t want to spark anything with him.

He had been an asshole the entire time.

Every chance he got, he proved it.

Not once had he asked how I was.

How I was after he left me in fucking pain at my house and refused to take me to the hospital.

So I wasn’t sure whether it was him or his brothers, because his brothers had done something unimaginably cruel to my brother too.

I took a deep breath, and for the next few hours, I focused solely on the project.

I had to win Ragnar’s attention somehow.

For now, the only possible way was to excel so much at my job that it caught his attention, because he seemed to admire powerful, capable women.

Women who knew what they were doing.

Women who could prove themselves through their work.

At the same time, O kept messaging me, asking when we could meet.

I had to pick a place.

So we decided to meet behind one of the Omega buildings, in a small alley that led into a narrow tunnel.

I arrived wearing exactly what he always expected me to wear.

A long white dress that covered me up to my neck, white gloves, and white knee-high socks.

Not a single inch of skin visible.

My heels clicked against the ground as I constantly looked around, wondering where he would appear from.

Then my eyes landed on him in the distance.

Only one light was working in the tunnel.

He stood a few steps behind it, allowing the light to fall from behind him and leaving his face mostly in shadow.

I stopped in front of him.

”What is it?” I asked, already feeling the tension rise into my throat.

He looked me up and down.

Then I noticed him shake his head in disappointment.

”Did I do something wrong?” I asked.

He placed a hand on my shoulder, and my body trembled.

But I kept my emotions to myself.

Then his hand slid down until it rested on my breast.

I sucked in a sharp breath as he grabbed it fully in his palm and squeezed.

At any other moment, I would’ve wanted to kick him between the legs.

But I didn’t.

He was an important person in this game.

And he knew it too.

”Why do you wear such tight-fitting dresses?” he asked.

My spine stiffened.

”What is wrong with this one?” I asked in confusion.

He had always wanted me to cover my skin.

So I was covering my skin.

He shook his head again before abruptly pulling his hand away.

”I told you not to wear dresses that accentuate your figure. You know who dresses like that, don’t you?” he asked.

I clenched my jaw.

”I know,” I replied.

”So say it. Who dresses like that?”

Despite not agreeing with him, I answered.

”A slut.”

I felt tears begin to sting the corners of my eyes.

”Exactly. And you’re not that, are you?” he asked.

I shook my head.
