Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 560: Chapter 560 Life is not in our control_1

Xue Han and Wu Ning had just left when Su Xuan came over. ”Mother, my maternal aunt sent a letter this morning, hoping I could visit.”

Zhulan said, ”That’s good. I have something for your aunt, help me take it to her.”

Su Xuan replied, ”Okay.”

Zhulan asked, ”Is Chang Zhi doing well?”

Thinking of her husband dawdling this morning before finally copying the book, Su Xuan’s eyes were full of laughter. No wonder everyone in the mansion feared the eunuch. ”He’s doing quite well.”

This time, she let Chang Zhi taste the pain of being forced to write. She had always suffered, and she snorted in her heart. Don’t blame her for not keeping Chang Zhi company in his misery, she was still angry inside. He was someone that needed a firm hand, and she hoped that her father would discipline him even more strictly!

Zhulan fell silent, ”Well, that’s good.”

Su Xuan said, ”Mother, I’ll be on my way then.”

”Alright.”

At the Jinzhou embroidery shop, as soon as Xue Han and Wu Ning entered, Xue Han saw Yao Zhe Yu picking out screens. Being a woman already engaged, and Yao Zhe Yu also being a man betrothed, she recognized him but wouldn’t approach. However, she was curious—who was Yao Zhe Yu buying the screen for?

Yao Zhe Yu, hearing the shopkeeper’s especially warm greeting, turned his head and spotted Miss Zhou, nodded in acknowledgement, then quickly bought the screen, paid for it, and left.

Back in his carriage, Yao Zhe Yu chuckled. He really was a pragmatic person. Even though he had felt a flutter once, it faded as he interacted with Magistrate Shen. Mocking himself, he thought he was sometimes too much like his own father!

Xue Han, along with Wu Ning, selected some needles and threads. After picking the threads, Xue Han looked at some embroidery pieces.

After paying the bill, Wu Ning said, ”You know, Xue Han hasn’t done any embroidery in a long time.”

Xue Han spread her hands, ”I’ve been busy.”

However, with the new year approaching, she would still find time to make clothes for her parents. Thinking of Rongchuan, her eyes filled with tenderness. Clothes would be impossible, but making a purse was feasible.

Seeing Xue Han’s expression, Wu Ning knew that she was thinking about Rongchuan. Wu Ning truly envied the relationship between Xue Han and Rongchuan, childhood sweethearts, two innocents without a care. ”By the way, it seems like it’s been a long time since we’ve seen Rongchuan, hasn’t it?”

Xue Han smiled, ”He’s busy making a fortune!”

Recently, Shi Qing had requested many paintings and calligraphy works, and Rongchuan had focused all his thoughts on that.

Wu Ning listened, and Xue Han mentioned it. Come to think of it, it had been a long time since she had thought about Shi Qing. She led a fulfilling life every day, to the point that the shadow of Shi Qing in her heart had faded.

Watching Wu Ning lost in thought, Xue Han tugged at Wu Ning’s sleeve. ”What are you thinking about? We should be going.”

Wu Ning came back to reality, ”Right.”

After leaving the embroidery shop, Xue Han looked up. ”The snow has been falling more diligently these days.”

Wu Ning looked up as well, ”Yes, let’s head back to the mansion.”

The two got into the carriage, with Wu Ning sitting by the window. Wu Ning loved the snow and, as they passed a teahouse, she lifted the carriage curtain and saw Shi Qing upstairs. After the carriage passed the teahouse, Wu Ning let the curtain fall. It seemed she truly didn’t care as much about Shi Qing anymore.

Xue Han observed Wu Ning the whole time and seeing that Wu Ning was smiling happily, felt relieved. After all, since the home tutor arrived and their studies intensified, Wu Ning had smiled a lot more. Xue Han truly considered Wu Ning a sister and sincerely hoped that Wu Ning could be happy.

In the teahouse, Shi Qing also noticed the Zhou family carriage. Holding his teacup, he never inquired about Miss Wu. Since the last time Miss Wu visited and they met, he had not seen her again. Later, when the Zhou family hired a home tutor, as a perceptive individual, he quickly understood the Zhou family’s intentions.

The couple of the Zhou family must have realized something. He clearly knew that he and Miss Wu were not suitable partners. Her melancholic nature couldn’t help him. He was already exhausted from living, wanting to find someone who could share his burdens. Now things were fine. He still hoped that Miss Wu, who had a life just as hard, could find her own happiness in the future.

In the Zhou residence, Zhulan chatted with Lady Li. Ever since she injured her foot, Lady Li often came by, not only to keep her company but also because Lady Li was strong and could carry her with ease.

Zhulan was moved by Lady Li’s care and didn’t find it bothersome at all to listen to her talk about making snacks. She listened patiently and chimed in at the right moments.

After a while, Lady Li fell silent, and Zhulan knew her mother-in-law preferred quietness, ”Mother, am I disturbing you?”

In the entire Zhou residence, she found that only her mother-in-law would listen patiently as she talked about making snacks. There was a barrier between her and the second sister-in-law, and although she got along with the third sister-in-law, who was about to give birth, she didn’t want to disturb her. As for the fourth sister-in-law, the difference in their statuses made her apprehensive.

The only one she could share the joy of making snacks with was her mother-in-law.

Zhulan smiled, ”No, you’re not disturbing. I like listening, and I support your ideas. When you’ve made them, I want to be the first to try.”

Lady Li beamed, ”Oh!”

Zhulan laughed out loud; she just loved Lady Li’s sincerity, ”I heard from Su Xuan that the snacks you made are selling quite well.”

Lady Li patted her plump purse, ”Mother, I didn’t expect them to be so popular.”

She could imagine how satisfying it felt to have a bulging purse.

That night, when Zhou Shuren came back, Zhulan mentioned the Princely Heir’s card, ”Does he need something?”

Zhou Shuren curled his lip, ”This Prince wants to deepen his relationship with our family.”

Zhulan understood that during Zhou Shuren’s recent trips to the capital, Yao Zheyu deeply realized how much the Emperor valued Zhou Shuren and wanted to curry favor, hoping he could speak for him in the future, ”Doesn’t he think it’s too late?”

Zhou Shuren put down his son, who had grown chubbier. Carrying him for long had become a strain on his arm, ”It’s better to rack up goodwill now than to seek a quick fix when the time comes.”

Zhulan thought so too. Watching her son crawl toward her, she didn’t pick him up, instead saying, ”Say ’Mother,’ and if you do, Mother will hold you.”

Speaking of which, Zhulan felt frustrated. Her son only knew how to call ’Dada,’ and no matter how she taught him, he wouldn’t say ’Mother.’ Watching the smug Zhou Shuren only made her more disgruntled.

The little guy babbled, and Zhulan remained still, but soon, he was about to cry.

Not wanting to hear her son wail, Zhulan picked him up, ”Little rascal, you’re getting better at pretending to cry.”

Zhou Shuren pinched his son’s chubby cheek, ”This little guy is very smart.”

How small he was, yet he already knew how to use tears to his advantage.

Zhulan kissed her son, ”It’s getting late, let’s rest.”

”Alright.”

Zhulan put her son to sleep first, and was thinking about going to bed herself when Zhou Shuren suddenly said, ”In a few days, Shi Qing is leaving.”

Zhulan was alert, ”Leaving? To the capital? Will he return?”

Zhou Shuren replied, ”I have nothing left to teach Shi Qing. What’s left for him to learn, he must realize on his own. After all, he is a weapon trained by the Emperor. I don’t know where Shi Qing will go after his early departure.”

It was quite abrupt. Shi Qing mentioned it to him that night; Shi Qing had received the news that afternoon himself.

Shi Qing didn’t want to leave but had no choice.

Zhou Shuren knew clearly that with the extraction of information this time, the Emperor had decided to change his approach to Shi Qing’s training; his role here was over, but Shi Qing still needed to be sharpened.

Zhulan felt gloomy. People got used to each other with time, and Shi Qing was a regular guest in the Zhou family. Sometimes, she truly forgot the purpose of his visit. Now faced with reality again, she said, ”You can’t control your destiny.”

In ancient times, there really was no concept of human rights!
