Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 140: Chapter 140 Strategize Ten Moves Ahead_1

She didn’t notice Zhou Shuren sitting to the side at all.

Zhou Shuren said, ”You had just come back, and seeing you sleeping so soundly, I didn’t dare to disturb you.”

As soon as he entered, he saw Zhulan sleeping with her head nestled against Ming Teng’s. The sight of her in sleep was especially soft, and the scene before him struck his heart forcefully. He deeply longed for a child of his own with Zhulan, boy or girl, it didn’t matter, as long as it was theirs.

It was just a pity that at the current stage, they were only in the early stage. The next few years would not be very stable, and the end goal seemed too far off. However, according to their plan, he was not in a rush.

When Zhulan moved, Ming Teng woke up. His chubby little hands rubbed his eyes, and remembering the pastries, he became fully alert, ”Grandma, I’m hungry.”

Zhulan chuckled, ”Alright, alright, grandma will get you some pastries.”

Zhou Shuren stood up, ”No need to get up, I’ll go get them.”

”They’re in the cupboard.”

Zhou Shuren placed a paper bag on the kang table. Zhulan took out the egg tarts and cakes, while Zhou Shuren watched without saying a word. Zhulan saved some for her and Zhou Shuren and put the rest back. When Ming Teng had cooled down a little from his sweat, she wrapped him and Zhou Shuren in her own cotton-padded jacket and said, ”Take the pastries and send Ming Teng to the girls’ chamber, the little ones can eat together.”

Zhou Shuren lifted Ming Teng with one arm, feeling the heavy weight. The little guy was naturally chubby, and after coming to Pingzhou, he had gained more weight and truly was heavy. With his other hand, he took the pastries and left, returning shortly after.

Zhulan was already eating cake. The sugar in ancient times was not as good as in modern days, and the taste couldn’t compare with modern cakes, but it was still quite good. ”Try it, it’s not bad.”

Zhou Shuren had a sweet tooth, otherwise, he wouldn’t have bought so many pastries on the way back from Jiangnan. He had always liked to eat pastries, and his fondness for sweets was all because he couldn’t have them when he was young, turning slowly into an obsession, ”It’s quite good.”

Zhulan asked, ”How was today’s visit to the Academy?”

Zhou Shuren replied as he took off his shoes and climbed onto the kang, ”I looked at several Academies, all pretty good. Next year, Mingyun, Ming Teng, and Rongchuan can start their schooling just in time for the winter.”

Zhulan inquired, ”What about Chang Lian and Chang Zhi?”

Zhou Shuren said, ”Aren’t they going to take the exams next year? We’ll decide after they have tried.”

Sending the kids to the Academy was part of the plan that Zhou Shuren and Zhulan had made. This year, Zhou Shuren had become a Scholar, and next year, after Chang Lian, Chang Zhi, and Jiang Sheng had taken the child student exams, they were planning to move to Pingzhou. The children attending the Academy was not only to make friends and receive a better education but also as a transition to better adapt them to social interactions so they wouldn’t be at a disadvantage in a new environment.

Both Zhulan and Zhou Shuren were people who liked to plan ahead. They had made plans even when deciding to buy a house.

Zhou Shuren lay on his side and closed his eyes to rest for a while, and upon waking, he took the jewelry he had brought to pawn. There were many pawn shops in Pingzhou, and pawning an item or two at each shop, he returned quickly.

Because there were no valuable pearl necklaces left, only some old hairpins and bracelets with lackluster colors, he wasn’t overly careful in pawning them. Moreover, no one paid much attention to these old items. After pawning all of the jewelry, he got less than two hundred Silver, taking one hundred and fifty Silver Notes and exchanging forty for Four taels of gold, then came back with a little over eight taels of broken silver.

Zhulan was not confident in silver notes and planned to slowly convert them into gold.

That evening, there were some leftover bones from the meat Zhao Bo bought, so Zhulan asked Lady Li to make bone broth noodles, and Lady Li took her share back home too.

Zhulan felt quite sentimental seeing that. Actually, by comparison, her status was really not bad. She had no worries about food and clothing, had savings and private funds, and now had the additional benefits of Zhou Shuren and not one, but two properties and shops. She was on top of the food chain at home and was incredibly lucky.

One should be content, and Zhulan was indeed very content.
