Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure

Sensing the plants below refusing to cooperate, Perry Yates narrowed her eyes as an immense power erupted from within her.

In the next instant, countless rose vines erupted from her, quickly filling the entire athletic field.

The roots of the roses pierced through the rubber track and delved underground. Like a tyrannical monarch, they ruthlessly plundered the energy from the other plants’ root systems.

After about ten minutes, Perry Yates slowly opened her eyes. Around her, several glass beads glowing with green light lay scattered on the ground.

As Perry Yates picked up the glass beads and stored them away, she said to Amber Sheridan, ”There. For now, no plants will come to bother us.”

Amber Sheridan looked at the basketball court, now transformed into a sea of roses, and gave Perry Yates a thumbs-up.

”Don’t retract the roses. They’re perfect for cover. After all, our RV isn’t small. It would probably attract a lot of attention if it were out in the open.”

Perry Yates nodded. ’I should add something else, just to be safe.’

She then released Thorny Rose and Dodder Seed, having them hide among the roses.

Next, she released a few Cannibal Flowers in several spots a little farther away to act as guards.

Only after all this was done did Perry Yates breathe a sigh of relief.

Through the spiritual power she had released, Perry Yates noticed that the entire city was changing.

The diseased plants here began to grow at a frantic pace, as if they’d gone mad, catching the humans completely off guard.

Some buildings teetered precariously, their foundations threatened by roots bursting from the ground, forcing the residents inside to flee their homes.

However, the outside wasn’t safe either.

The plants were growing so fast that many people were cut by them, or even lifted high into the air only to be dropped and injured by the fall.

Screams, cries, blaring car horns, and ambulance sirens blended into a cacophony that echoed through the night.

「The fifth day of the game.」

When Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan woke up early in the morning and looked out the window, they found the world outside had transformed. A dense forest stretched out before them; as far as the eye could see, there was nothing but plants.

The buildings that had once defined the city were now completely covered by the frantically growing vegetation.

Perry Yates uncovered the solar panels on the RV’s roof, while Amber Sheridan used a Skill to forcefully part the tree canopy overhead that was blocking the sun.

With ample sunlight, they no longer had to worry about the RV running out of power.

They had plenty of supplies and an RV to live in. All that was left to do was wait.

Looking out the window, Perry Yates couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret. ’If I had known this was going to happen, I would have filled up the rest of the trash bins I control.’

’Honestly, I really liked the fruit in this world. They were big, juicy, and most importantly, delicious, with a wonderful texture. The fruit of my dreams, really.’

’I should save some seeds and give them to the Survival Game Administration when I get back. Maybe they can cultivate the same variety.’

Just then, the once bright and sunny sky suddenly darkened.

A layer of black clouds had appeared from nowhere, completely obscuring the sky and the sun along with it.

Seeing this, Perry Yates and Amber Sheridan quickly closed the door and locked the windows. A moment later, a single drop of rain landed on the RV’s roof with a dull THUD.

Then, more and more raindrops began to fall, each one hitting like a small cannonball.

To prevent the roof and solar panels from being damaged, Perry Yates urged the surrounding rose vines to grow over the top of the RV, creating a buffer against the downpour.

But even this had a limited effect, because what was happening could no longer be described as ”raining”—it was a deluge.

It was as if someone were dumping basins of water from the sky.

Perry Yates noticed the surrounding trees seemed to exude a joyful aura as the rain fell. Looking at their dense canopies, she decided to use them to block the rain.

No sooner said than done. Under Perry Yates’s control, the branches of the surrounding trees began to grow rapidly. A closer look would reveal that all their canopies were growing in the same direction.

With the canopies providing cover, the impact on the RV was indeed much lighter.

The rain fell for a full day and night, not stopping until the following morning.

「The sixth day of the game.」

Due to yesterday’s rain, a lot of water had accumulated on the ground. Luckily, they were on high ground, and the RV had a high chassis; otherwise, they would have been flooded long ago.

”That’s strange. It’s been a while, but the water level doesn’t seem to be going down at all,” Amber Sheridan remarked, looking at the standing water outside.

”The sewers are probably clogged with plant roots,” Perry Yates said. ”That’s why the water isn’t receding.”

In truth, it wasn’t that the water level wasn’t dropping at all; it was just happening very, very slowly.

In a situation like this, all they could do was hope it wouldn’t rain again.

But Perry Yates’s hopes were destined to be dashed.

The sun was only out for half the day before dark clouds drifted in from nowhere and completely obscured it again. Less than ten minutes later, rain began to pour.

Fortunately, the RV was well-equipped and their supplies were plentiful. Aside from the surroundings growing a little darker, the rain outside had almost no effect on them.

Perry also solved the problem of the rising water levels. She ”ate” all the roots that were clogging the nearby sewers.

Although she had only cleared a section—not enough to drain all the rainwater—it was sufficient to keep the RV from being submerged.

Thankfully, this downpour only lasted for about three hours.

Opening the window, Perry Yates closed her eyes in enjoyment as the scent of rain, plants, and soil washed over her.

Just then, Perry Yates saw that not far from the RV, a stalk of foxtail grass had somehow broken through the layers of defending rose vines and sprouted up.

She estimated it was a full three meters tall.

’Come to think of it,’ she mused, ’I remember that the grain humans eat today was domesticated from foxtail grass, step by step.’

Perry Yates uprooted the stalk of foxtail grass and brought it before her.

’It’s surprisingly heavy,’ she thought, feeling the weight pull down on her hand.

With nothing better to do, Perry Yates leaned against the window, idly dragging the stalk of foxtail grass through the water outside.

Though the rain had stopped, the sky remained overcast, looking as if it could start pouring again at any moment.

Under these conditions, going outside was out of the question.
