Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure

Dylan Adler nodded.

’Let them stay. It’s only for a few more days anyway.’

Besides, Dylan Adler had noticed the changes in their surroundings after these people showed up. He just didn’t know if the final outcome would be good or bad.

After all, as a veteran player, Dylan Adler knew all too well just how messed up this survival game could be.

Although Nicole Fortune and her group stayed, they didn’t interact much with Perry Yates and Dylan Adler.

Ever since they arrived, Perry Yates had transformed into a lovestruck young woman, her eyes constantly following Dylan Adler, making his skin crawl.

If they hadn’t already spent a few days together, Dylan Adler might have actually believed Perry Yates had fallen for him at first sight. After all, if nothing else, he was quite confident in his own looks.

But after spending a few days with her, aside from a flicker of admiration he’d seen in her eyes at the very beginning, there had been nothing else.

So...

”What exactly are you up to?”

On the twenty-eighth day of the game, Dylan Adler asked quietly while the two were having breakfast.

They were eating rice bowls provided by Perry Yates, which only needed to be heated up.

After hearing Dylan Adler’s question, Perry Yates first shoveled a mouthful of rice into her mouth before speaking unhurriedly, ”I just wanted to find something to do so I don’t look so idle.”

Dylan Adler: ”...”

”And that’s your reason for latching onto me?”

Perry Yates tilted her head, smiled, and said, ”A young woman hopelessly in love. Don’t you think that’s a great excuse?”

Dylan Adler: ”...” ’Not really.’

He understood the reason, but...

”Why are you doing this?” Dylan Adler asked, confused. ’Is it because of those people who showed up yesterday?’

’But wasn’t Perry Yates the one who offered to let them stay?’

As if reading his mind, Perry Yates said, ”There’s someone I know in that group, and I don’t want to interact with her much. Besides, as for letting them stay, even if I hadn’t said anything, do you think they would have just left on their own?

At that point, it was better to go with the flow than to get into an unnecessary conflict with them.”

Hearing this, Dylan Adler nodded. He then glanced at Nicole Fortune, his eyes meeting hers as she looked over.

Nicole Fortune lived up to her name. She looked like a little cherub—the type of girl who was easily liked, especially by elders. Her features were soft, and with her constant smile, she seemed completely non-threatening.

But because of her personality, Perry Yates didn’t like Nicole Fortune.

In fact, it wasn’t just Perry Yates. Back then, none of the twenty-odd girls in their entire class liked Nicole Fortune.

As the saying goes, if one or two women don’t like you, it might be their problem. But if no one likes you, then the problem is you.

Perry Yates didn’t know or care what Nicole Fortune’s problem was. All she knew was that she wasn’t close to this person, and she disliked people who got overly friendly too fast.

Under normal circumstances, Perry Yates might have been able to chat with her for a bit, to put on an act. But this was a survival game. When someone was inexplicably and overly enthusiastic toward you, Perry found it hard not to be suspicious.

Don’t forget, she currently had the status of a Dealer Player.

According to the information she’d gotten from Amber Sheridan, in this round of the game, the non-Dealer Players should have another mission besides surviving for thirty days: hunting the Dealer Players.

If Nicole Fortune hadn’t been acting normal aside from her excessive enthusiasm, Perry would have suspected that her identity had been exposed.

Left with no other choice, Dylan Adler continued to act as Perry Yates’s human shield.

During this time, Nicole Fortune tried to get closer to Perry Yates several times, but she was silently rejected each time.

Watching Perry Yates act so lovesick, Nicole Fortune frowned so deeply you could have squashed a fly in the creases.

The reason Nicole Fortune was so fixated on Perry Yates was certainly not due to some so-called classmate camaraderie, but because of the card she had merged with.

Because the card attribute Nicole Fortune had merged with was extremely special, she had only managed to merge with a single card despite participating in so many games.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to merge with more cards, but that she truly couldn’t find any with the same attribute, not even in The Card Tavern.

Luckily, although this card was only two-star, its Skill was powerful enough that she had managed to struggle and survive in the game until now.

The card attribute Nicole Fortune had merged with was named Balance. As the name implied, it was about balancing various forces. When converted into a Skill, it became the Scales of Balance.

This ability allowed Nicole Fortune to see the value of anything.

Therefore, in Nicole Fortune’s eyes, Perry Yates was a glittering, walking mountain of gold.

Unfortunately, for some reason, Perry Yates had become completely infatuated with a man. Nicole hadn’t noticed any lovesick tendencies in her back in school. Besides, this Dylan Adler wasn’t even Perry’s type.

「The twenty-ninth day of the game.」

Waking up in the morning, the surrounding temperature had dropped again. Just then, a sinister gust of wind blew past.

Perry Yates shivered instinctively.

’This can’t go on.’

Perry Yates contemplated whether she should take out her shelter, but wouldn’t that expose her identity?

After all, a regular player producing a four-star card could be explained away as good luck—it wasn’t unheard of for players to get four-star cards since the game began. But to produce two in a row...

Especially since Perry Yates had only entered the game six months after it began.

At this thought, Perry Yates glanced at Dylan Adler, wondering, ’Should I just ditch my teammate?’

’That wouldn’t work either. It could cause trouble for me later.’

As Perry Yates wrestled with her dilemma, the day passed. Fortunately, nothing major happened, but she had a gut feeling that this game was brewing up something nasty.

「The thirtieth day of the game.」

Early in the morning, Perry Yates was jolted awake by a bloodcurdling scream.

Hearing the sound, Perry Yates shot up and looked in the direction it came from.

In the direction of Nicole Fortune’s group, a person was lying on the ground, their stomach torn open, with entrails and blood spilling everywhere.

The dead person’s eyes were wide open, as if they couldn’t rest in peace.

Seeing this, Perry Yates and Dylan Adler couldn’t just ignore it. After all, this was the last day of the game, and they absolutely could not let all their previous efforts go to waste.

The fact that the attacker could kill someone right under their noses without them noticing meant this thing was no simple matter. It might not have even left, but could be hiding in some corner, preparing to strike again.
