As they stepped out of the private room, MO Xiuchen released Wen Ran’s hand.

The sudden loss of warmth startled Wen Ran, and she looked up at the man beside her. In the dim light, his handsome features were steeped in a cold sternness, and his slightly pursed lips betrayed his displeasure.

Was he angry?

Wen Ran blinked in bewilderment. He didn’t seem happy in the private room, but his expression hadn’t been like this.

She didn’t understand why MO Xiuchen was angry with her. In the elevator, he didn’t speak to her either.

When they left Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion, a wind had started, suggesting impending rain.

The cold wind whipped against her lightly clad body, inducing a shiver. Subconsciously, Wen Ran slipped her hands into her pockets and tightened her coat.

The next second, a warmth enveloped her as MO Xiuchen’s suit, imbued with his masculine scent, was draped over her slim shoulders.

“Wear this.”

MO Xiuchen’s deep voice fell on her ears. Wen Ran looked up, meeting his eyes that were as deep as a pool. She moistened her lips and asked softly, “Are you angry with me?”

Throughout their journey from the building, she mulled over the situation. The reason he must be angry, she decided, was something she had said in the private room.

MO Xiuchen’s lips closed into a thin line, not responding to her question as he strode towards the parking lot.

Her guess was correct. MO Xiuchen was indeed angry with her because of her refusal to leave together from the private room. Her avoidance of the issue upset him.

He had told her earlier what she should do if other women pursued him.

MO Xiuchen opened the car door for Wen Ran and settled himself in the driver’s seat, not waiting as usual to close the door for her before driving off.

His anger was quite evident.

As soon as Wen Ran got into the passenger seat and shut the car door, MO

Xiuchen’s firm grip wrapped around her wrist, pulling her bodily towards him. The next second, her head was held firmly by his other hand, and his hot breath poured over her…

Wen Ran’s mind seemed to explode as his overbearing and potent male scent flooded her senses, leaving her brain blank.

Just as she thought she was about to suffocate, MO Xiuchen suddenly released her lips. His eyes deeply locked onto hers, he huskily asked,

“Don’t you care at all that other women are pestering your husband?”

Wen Ran was busy gulping in massive breaths of air. At MO Xiuchen’s accusatory words, her heart clenched. She stared back at him, dazed.

“Initially, if it hadn’t been for the Wen Family, you wouldn’t have married a stranger. Although you’ve been fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of a wife these days, you’re only doing so out of adherence to your initial promise and not because you’ve fallen for me, right?”

MO Xiuchen locked eyes with her, demanding her unwavering gaze. The more he cared for her, the more he wanted her to reciprocate in kind.

He wasn’t satisfied with her merely keeping her promise!

Wen Ran’s heart pounded wildly, her emotions in chaos. MO Xiuchen’s intense gaze bore into her, like a weight that made it difficult for her to breathe.

Maybe the space was too confined, or perhaps the air in the car had become thin from the wild kiss moments ago.

She didn’t know how to respond to his question. A part of what he said was indeed a fact that she couldn’t deny: her initial reason for marrying him was the company.

And all this time, she had been striving to be a good wife – not just to keep her promise, but also to repay him for his help during her most helpless times.

She was unsure whether she liked him or not.

The only thing she was sure of was that she didn’t mind being with him at all. Even if it meant spending her entire life with him, she wouldn’t get bored.

She pressed her lips tightly together to suppress the turmoil in her heart, looked directly into his deeply piercing eyes, and replied softly, “When I first married you, it indeed was for the sake of the company. Later, I tried my best to be a good wife because I had made a promise. But after living with you these days…”

Her words were interrupted by the sudden buzzing of a cellphone.

It was MO Xiuchen’s phone that was ringing. In the dimly lit car, she couldn’t see his expression, just his deep eyes fixated on her.

He ignored the ringing phone and continued watching Wen Ran, his gaze riveted onto her. Despite the frustration caused by her earlier words, He felt that what she was about to say next was what he wanted to hear.

“Your phone is ringing!”

The phone’s ringing was too loud in the confined space. Wen Ran paused, declining to finish her sentence and reminded him instead.

“Ignore it.”

MO Xiuchen’s eyebrows knit together. His meaning couldn’t have been clearer: he wanted her to finish speaking.

Wen Ran clasped her hands together and and spoke with a hint of emotion in her voice. “After spending these days together, I don’t dislike being with you. As long as you’re not tired of me, I’ll stay by your side always.”

As a woman, she was naturally more reserved. Before he could confess to her, this was the best commitment she could offer. Even so, her cheeks felt searing hot.

MO Xiuchen’s gaze shifted, and he seemed somewhat dissatisfied with Wen Ran’s answer – it wasn’t explicit enough.

Still, he knew that no amount of pressure could force her to utter the words he longed to hear. Taking a deep breath to disperse the gloom from his heart, he said dominantly, “Ranran, it’s not just you that I want, but also your heart.”

Except for her falling for him or loving him, in situations like this, she would always choose to avoid confronting the issue instead of defending her rights.

Wen Ran’s body stiffened slightly. Silently, she pursed her lips.

MO Xiuchen took out his phone and pressed the answer button just before it stopped ringing. He answered with an indifferent voice, “Hello?”

“Young Master MO, it’s me. I’m here.”

“Come to the parking lot.”

MO Xiuchen said abruptly and hung up the phone.

“If you don’t want to see Cheng Jia, you can wait in the car. I’ll go down and talk to her.”

His voice was somewhat cold. He hoped she would accompany him, but he didn’t want to pressurize her.

“Let her come in the car. It’s windy outside, and it’s warmer in the car.”

Wen Ran’s unexpected words caused MO Xiuchen to falter momentarily before his lips curved up in a pleasant arc. He honked once at Cheng Jia, who was approaching from the parking lot, and said gently, “Later, you don’t need to say anything. Just being by my side is enough.”

“Ok! ”

Wen Ran nodded gently, her heart filled with an indescribable sentiment. MO Xiuchen’s words may have been somewhat contradictory, his earlier display of anger somewhat childish, but it stirred within her a tender feeling of pity..
