Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1142: Chapter 1144: There’s a Big Problem Inside_1

Even though she couldn’t see his face, Bai Ruozhu could still picture the expression on Xiaosi’s face at this moment, which must have been one of pain and conflict.

Her heart ached for him, and she softly called out to him. Xiaosi’s small body jerked, and he looked at her with a face full of embarrassment and nervousness.

”Sister, I just happened to be passing by, I’m off to practice.”

Xiaosi said and was about to leave, but Bai Ruozhu caught hold of him.

”This place is so secluded, where could you be passing by? Alright, I understand your feelings, but you’ve done nothing wrong, the problem isn’t with you, and you haven’t let anyone down,” Bai Ruozhu said, somewhat angrily.

If there was a mistake, it was with Lin Lian. Even if she might have had the sick desire to kill Elder Xuan Jizi’s disciple, what did that have to do with Xiaosi years ago?

Xiaosi pursed his lips and didn’t speak, bowing his head and looking somewhat distractedly at a spot on the ground.

Bai Ruozhu sighed; for Xiaosi, aside from his family, Elder Xuan Jizi was the person he cherished and cared about the most. Now, Elder Xuan Jizi, who valued his wife highly, found that she disliked Xiaosi, even wanted to kill him, which made him sad. He dared not go near them, and he even dared not speak to Elder Xuan Jizi.

She took his hand and said, ”Come inside with sister and see them, alright? I’m going to treat Lin Lian, can you help?”

Xiaosi’s brows were furrowed with worry, but his eyes were filled with hope, hoping that this would make his master’s wife dislike him less.

Bai Ruozhu slowly led Xiaosi into the yard. Elder Xuan Jizi, hearing the noise, came out to meet them. He looked guiltily at Xiaosi; if only he hadn’t taken on Xiaosi as a disciple on a whim years ago when he was reminded of his deceased son, none of this would have happened.

”Disciple greets Master,” said Xiaosi, quickly performing the appropriate gesture upon seeing the haggard Elder Xuan Jizi, who had visibly aged in just a few days.

Elder Xuan Jizi hurried forward to support Xiaosi, ”You’re feeling much better, aren’t you? Your master has neglected you these past few days.”

A look of grievance flashed in Xiaosi’s eyes; after all, he was just a seven-year-old child.

”I am much better now,” Xiaosi replied after a pause, ”How is Master’s wife?”

Elder Xuan Jizi sighed, ”Her mental state is very poor, often becoming delirious. She must be watched at all times, and I don’t know if detoxification will make her better.”

”The heart’s ailment also requires the Heart Medicine,” Bai Ruozhu said indifferently.

Lin Lian’s poison could be cured, which might alleviate some of her mental suffering, but mostly it was the death of her son many years ago that was the heart’s ailment that needed to be treated with Heart Medicine.

Elder Xuan Jizi nodded, gratefully bowing to Bai Ruozhu, ”Ruozhu, thank you for your trouble.”

Bai Ruozhu followed him into the house and found Lin Lian sitting motionlessly in a chair with a half-eaten bowl of porridge in front of her and a pair of chopsticks thrown far away.

Elder Xuan Jizi awkwardly explained, ”She became delirious again while eating, and I had to press her acupoints.”

This was good; Bai Ruozhu was also worried about being hurt by Lin Lian during the examination. Lin Lian’s martial skills required Jiang Yichun and Ning Yu to spar to subdue her.

After taking Lin Lian’s pulse and examining her eyes, Bai Ruozhu asked Elder Xuan Jizi for paper and pen and prescribed a medicine formula.

”Start taking the decoction today, but this is just a warm-up before the official detoxification. You’ll need to drink the decoction for seven days, primarily to enhance her physical functions. After seven days, I plan to use the Ancient Steaming Method to detoxify her. There will definitely be results, but it won’t all be resolved at once, and the process will be very painful. I hope you’re prepared,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Elder Xuan Jizi took one of Lin Lian’s hands and said, ”As long as the poison can be cured, she can endure any hardship. I understand her character.”

”When the time comes, Xiaosi will be my assistant and will help by my side,” Bai Ruozhu said as she looked towards Xiaosi, giving him an encouraging smile.

A worried look flickered in Elder Xuan Jizi’s eyes, fearing that Xiaosi might agitate Lin Lian’s nerves, but ultimately he could not bear to speak up and swallowed his words back down.

How could Bai Ruozhu not know his thoughts, but would Xiaosi still follow Elder Xuan Jizi to learn in the future? If Lin Lian’s attitude towards Xiaosi didn’t change, what should they do later?

”By the way, did she ever mention anything about the Niu Family to you?” Bai Ruozhu asked, and Xiaosi stiffened beside her.

”She did. She said that she encountered the Niu Family near the Bai Residence. The Niu Family was telling everyone that the Bai Family had snatched her son, so Lin Lian used the Niu Family to lure Xiaosi out,” Elder Xuan Jizi said.

He chose his words more carefully, implying that it was Lin Lian who used the Niu Family, contrary to the Niu Family’s own intentions.

Bai Ruozhu snorted softly. Even if the Niu Family wanted to snatch her son back, she shouldn’t send her son to a dangerous person who was like a ghost and whose origins were unknown, right? The claim of wanting to snatch back her son seemed too selfish, was this really the act of his birth mother?

”Where did the Niu Family woman go?” After they emerged from the secret passage and broke the array in the yard that day, they had not seen a trace of the Niu Family.

”Lin Lian mentioned that the Niu Family had been too bothersome before, so she injured her. She also thought that we had rescued the Niu Family, but she said her subordinates had also disappeared without a trace, likely related to the Niu Family,” Elder Xuan Jizi explained.

”What kind of subordinates? They wouldn’t have done anything to rescue Lin Lian, would they?” Bai Ruozhu became nervous all of a sudden, fearing harm to her family.

Elder Xuan Jizi hastily said, ”No, Lin Lian had sent a secret message to him, saying she was at the Bai Residence getting the poison cured and told him not to make a rash move, but there has been no response at all since then.”

Bai Ruozhu fell into thought upon hearing this; she felt increasingly that the Niu Family was not simple, as too many coincidences were coming together, and Lin Lian’s subordinate couldn’t have just vanished for no reason, could he?

After leaving the northwest side of the yard, Bai Ruozhu comforted Xiaosi with a few words.

”Xiaosi, remember that you have done nothing wrong, you haven’t let anyone down, don’t think too much, and live each day happily, so sister can be at ease,” she said, patting his head.

Xiaosi looked up at her, a smile appearing on his young and tender face, ”Sister, I understand. I will live happily.”

Xiaosi always looked worried because of the hardships he had faced at such a young age.

As the two of them walked towards the yard, a guard came to deliver a message, saying, ”Miss, someone from the palace has come. The Empress Dowager summons you to the palace.”

Bai Ruozhu’s heart suddenly lifted. Hadn’t she just been to the palace not long ago? Why had the Empress Dowager sent for her again? Could it be that Consort Le had...

”Alright, have someone lead out my horse, and also bring my medical box,” Bai Ruozhu ordered Jianqi.

Jianqi immediately arranged for someone to do so. Bai Ruozhu bade farewell to Xiaosi, who said with some concern, ”Sister, be extra careful.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled and ruffled his hair, turning his neat hairstyle into a bird’s nest before saying with a grin, ”Don’t worry, sister will be back soon.”

Afterward, she galloped all the way to the palace, but upon arriving at the Cining Palace, she realized the situation was not as simple as she had thought.
