Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 282: Chapter 282: Yu Hongxiu is Pregnant

In the following days, Bai Ruozhu was even busier because her mother was not at the stall and had to take time to go back to Mountain Village to prepare for Bai Zehao’s wedding. Sometimes, Bai Zehao also had to go with her. The stall was basically taken care of by Bai Ruozhu and Bai Yihong. Fortunately, she had some help from Fusa when she was not busy. With her assistance, they managed to get through the busy times.

Yu Hongxiu knew that Bai Ruozhu had been very busy lately and insisted that she didn’t help with the cooking. However, she still insisted on having Bai Ruozhu come to the East Courtyard for meals. One day, Yu Hongxiu was acting mysteriously and she pulled Bai Ruozhu aside and said, ”We need to have a private chat.”

Bai Ruozhu winked at her and quickly grabbed her wrist to take her pulse.

”I, I’m still not sure yet.” Yu Hongxiu turned red when she saw that Bai Ruozhu had grasped her intentions.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t say anything, but concentrated on taking her pulse. Her brows slightly furrowed, causing Yu Hongxiu to feel anxious – could there be bad news?

”Ruozhu, am I not pregnant? Is it just my cycle being irregular?” Yu Hongxiu asked, worried.

Bai Ruozhu slightly shook her head but did not rush to answer. Instead, she continued to take Yu Hongxiu’s pulse. Yu Hongxiu’s heart was racing, every second of waiting felt like torture.

After a while, Bai Ruozhu finally let go of her hand, her face lightening with a smile.

”You are pregnant, congratulations!”

Hearing this, Yu Hongxiu nearly leaped for joy. She grasped Bai Ruozhu’s shoulders tightly and excitedly asked, ”Are you serious? You aren’t joking with me?”

Bai Ruozhu, feeling dizzy from the shake, laughed and removed Yu Hongxiu’s hands. She looked at her disapprovingly and said, ”This is not something to joke about.”

Realizing she had gotten overly excited and hurt Bai Ruozhu, Yu Hongxiu smiled apologetically and said, ”It’s incredible that it happened so quickly! My period was late a few days ago, but I didn’t think I could be pregnant this soon. Moreover, I didn’t want to get my husband’s hopes up in case it turned out I wasn’t. So, I kept it to myself until today. You can’t imagine how difficult it has been!”

Only then did Bai Ruozhu remember that Yu Hongxiu had indeed been quieter than usual during the past few days. She herself had been so busy and preoccupied that she had overlooked it.

”It means you two were meant to have a child. It has been arranged by heaven.” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

”I must thank you for your help. You must be my lucky charm. How else can it be that I didn’t get pregnant for two years and got pregnant in the short time after knowing you?” Yu Hongxiu excitedly linked arms with Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu chuckled inwardly. Was she the type of person who could make anyone pregnant just by glancing at them?

”But why did you frown just now? Is there something wrong?” After the excitement, Yu Hongxiu remembered Bai Ruozhu’s expression earlier and began to feel worried again.

Bai Ruozhu’s arm was once again shaken by Yu Hongxiu. She withdrew her arm helplessly and said, ”It’s not necessarily a bad thing. It seems that you might be carrying twins. But it could be a bit challenging for you. However, I can’t be completely sure yet. You should go to Fushou Hall with your husband tomorrow and have the old doctor take your pulse to confirm it.”

Considering Yu Hongxiu’s petite figure and the fact that it was her first pregnancy, if she were to have twins, it would indeed be tough for her, especially under the inadequate medical conditions of ancient times.

”Twins?” Yu Hongxiu’s eyes shone even brighter. ”My husband and I love kids. Two at once would indeed be even more lively!”

Bai Ruozhu shook her head helplessly, seeing that Yu Hongxiu did not seem to take her warning seriously. However, with Bai Ruozhu by her side to look after her, there shouldn’t be any significant problems.

Soon after, Yu Hongxiu told Mr. Xie about Bai Ruozhu’s diagnosis. Mr. Xie’s face turned red with excitement. He looked as if he wanted to embrace Yu Hongxiu. Unable to stand it anymore, Bai Ruozhu cautioned, ”Sister Hongxiu, you might be carrying twins, you need to be extra careful.”

Yu Hongxiu understood and scowled at Mr. Xie who touched his nose awkwardly and coughed a few times.

Bai Ruozhu figured that the couple must have a lot to discuss, so she rose to leave. Yu Hongxiu exclaimed excitedly, ”Ruozhu, when I return from Fushou Hall tomorrow, I’ll bring you some Osmanthus Cakes.”

”Sure, I also want Sugar-Coated Haws,” Bai Ruozhu replied playfully, winking at her.

Mentioning Sugar-Coated Haws made Yu Hongxiu crave them too. She licked her lips and said, ”Agreed, there will be Sugar-Coated Haws too!”

Laughing, Bai Ruozhu went back to the West Courtyard and informed her family about Yu Hongxiu’s condition. She requested that they be careful around her and not to bump into or frighten her.

Lin Ping’er clasped her hands together in prayer and said with excitement, ”It’s such a blessing from the Buddha. Mrs. Xie is pregnant! They’ve been so good to us, I genuinely feel happy for them.”

Bai Ruozhu chuckled, ”Mom, you’re so happy, it’s as if our eldest brother and sister-in-law are the ones expecting.”

Bai Zehao turned red again, ”Ruozhu, you shouldn’t tease your big brother like that. Is it because he’s about to get married? Or are you just jealous of your future sister-in-law?”

Bai Ruozhu loved to tease her big brother because he was easily flustered, back-pedalling whenever anyone mentioned his upcoming wedding or Wan Caiyue or even the Wan family. Seeing how fun it was to tease him, she would do it from time to time.

She knew that big brother was just trying to make light of the situation, but he was no match for her.

”How could that be? I can’t wait to become an aunt and have someone to play with Dengdeng! Or should I help you strengthen and nourish your body, to make sure you’re brimming with vitality so that your new wife can get pregnant soon?” Bai Ruozhu asked with mischief.

”Mother, you have to control Ruozhu. Look at the things this young girl is saying!” Bai Zehao’s face got even redder, as if he had been cooked. He was indeed embarrassed by Bai Ruozhu’s ’brimming with vitality’ comment.

Bai Zepei was sitting on the side, sipping his tea and enjoying the show. That was until he was taken aback by his little sister’s ’brimming with vitality’ comment, which made him choke on his tea and start to cough.

His little sister’s behavior was getting more lively and bold.

Bai Ruozhu raised her eyebrows at her big brother, saying with a sly grin, ”Big brother, why do you always have such dirty thoughts? I was talking from a medical perspective. Did you take it the wrong way?”

Bai Zehao looked at Bai Ruozhu with his mouth agape, his face became so red it was like a heated baking pan. Pointing at Bai Ruozhu, he stuttered for a while, then, in frustration, announced that he was going to the toilet, before running off.

Bai Ruozhu burst out laughing. Lin Ping’er joined her and playfully scolded, ”You must stop teasing your big brother, or he might actually get angry at you.”

”He won’t, you guys are too busy pampering me.” Bai Ruozhu was utterly pleased with herself. She knew that they wouldn’t spoil her so much otherwise she wouldn’t have the courage to make jokes that casually.

Bai Yihong also chuckled, saying, ”This girl of ours is really being spoiled.”
