Checking in for 100,000 Years

Chapter 766: Chapter 766: Big Black Dog

”Cat Brother, is that you?”

The shadowy figure in the cave paused abruptly, then called out, a mix of joy and surprise in its voice.

”Doggy, it’s me!” Big Black Cat, equally overjoyed, immediately opened his arms wide.

”Cat Brother!”

The shadow lunged from the cave, and the two figures embraced in a tight bear hug.

”This...” Su Wanyi, standing nearby, watched in surprise as the black-robed young man hugged Big Black Cat.

A potent Demonic Aura emanated from this young man. It was clear he was also a member of the Demon Clan. Judging by Big Black Cat’s earlier address, this had to be a Dog Demon.

This Dog Demon was short and stout, with small eyes—a far cry from the dashing and debonair Big Black Cat. In fact, his appearance was remarkably similar to the shifty-eyed Sky-boring Rat.

”Haha, Doggy, fancy meeting you here!” Sky-boring Rat chimed in, sidling closer.

”Call me Dog Brother!” the black-robed young man retorted, stepping back and grumbling irritably.

Undoubtedly, this cat, rat, and dog knew each other.

”Doggy, my cultivation base is higher than yours now. Look at you! You’ve been messing around for so many years and still can’t match me!” Sky-boring Rat puffed out his chest, boasting proudly.

The Big Black Dog before him had crossed paths with him in the past; they had even teamed up to excavate many ancient tombs. However, the two hadn’t seen each other for several hundred years. Currently, Sky-boring Rat was at the Fourth Level of the Life-and-Death Realm, two levels higher than Big Black Dog, who was at the Second Level of the Life-and-Death Realm.

”Unbelievable! Cat Brother, Rat Brother, how did your cultivation bases advance so quickly?” Big Black Dog asked in shock.

”Isn’t it obvious? You’re always roaming about. Haven’t you heard of Cat Brother’s fame?” Sky-boring Rat chuckled.

”I’ve heard,” Big Black Dog nodded. ”Cat Brother has been causing quite a stir recently, making a name for himself in the Nine Soul Underground Palace and the Nether Immortal Ancient Land. It’s said he’s thoroughly angered many of our fellow demons...”

”Screw you!” Big Black Cat snapped. ”What do you mean ’thoroughly angered’? I just snatched some opportunities they were after, that’s all!”

”Cat Brother, you’re right. I tend to be blunt; I didn’t mean to offend...” Big Black Dog clasped his hands in apology, though his beady little eyes fixed on Su Wanyi.

”And who might this be?” Big Black Dog inquired.

”This is my lady,” Big Black Cat announced proudly.

”Cat Brother, I heard the Sect Master of the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect sent you on a mission somewhere... When did you get a new master?” Big Black Dog asked, surprised.

”You even know about that? You’re quite well-informed!” Big Black Cat scoffed. The matter of changing masters was a sensitive one, and he had no intention of discussing it. Even though he had some history with Big Black Dog, he didn’t want to reveal the details.

”Doggy, my lady is actually a div—” Sky-boring Rat began to introduce boastfully.

WHACK!

Before he could finish, Big Black Cat slapped him on the forehead.

”My lady has ties to the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect; she is a Disciple of my former master...” Big Black Cat hastily explained. After speaking, he shot a fierce glare at Sky-boring Rat.

The lady’s true identity must not be revealed so easily. Since we’re heading to the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect anyway, it would be better to present her as its Successor.

”So, she’s a Disciple of the Sect Master of the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect! I never would have guessed!” Big Black Dog rubbed his hands together, grinning awkwardly. ”Actually, I’m also from the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect. I’m one of their tamed demon beasts!”

”Did I hear that right?” Big Black Cat raised an eyebrow, asking in surprise. ”You, a dog who’s always been a restless wanderer, always scrounging around for opportunities, how did you end up at the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect as a tamed demon beast?”

”I had no choice! Haven’t I made a lot of enemies? So, I had to find a way to sneak into the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect. You know, find a big tree for some shade!” Big Black Dog spread his hands, laughing helplessly.

”I don’t believe a word of it...” Big Black Cat squinted, scoffing disdainfully.

”Doggy! Even I, your Rat Brother, don’t believe you. You, willingly become someone else’s demon beast? Stop trying to fool us!” Sky-boring Rat also sneered.

”But I’m telling the truth!” Big Black Dog replied with a bitter smile.

After saying that, his shoulders began to tremble violently. His face flushed red, and he broke into a fit of relentless coughing.

”Doggy, are you hurt?” Big Black Cat’s expression changed, and he quickly asked with concern.

”The demon beasts on Ten Thousand Beast Mountain rioted,” Big Black Dog explained between coughs. ”I escaped along with them and suffered some injuries...”

”The demon beasts on Ten Thousand Beast Mountain have always lived peacefully. Why would they suddenly riot? What happened there?” Big Black Cat asked with a frown.

”I don’t know either! Suddenly, many demon beasts charged out like they were mad. The great protective formation couldn’t withstand the impact and shattered. After that, all the demon beasts escaped...” Big Black Dog said with a bitter smile.

”You little rascal, you’re still not telling the truth!” Big Black Cat stated calmly, hands clasped behind his back, eyes narrowed.

”I am telling the truth, Cat Brother! Why don’t you believe me?” Big Black Dog whined, sounding aggrieved.

”Keep acting!” Big Black Cat chuckled. ”I knew you, dog, never had good intentions...”

Big Black Dog could only sigh helplessly, and they both fell silent.

After a moment, Big Black Cat said faintly, ”Doggy, considering we’ve known each other for many years and you’ve helped me before, I’ll give you a pill today to treat your wounds.”

”Cat Brother, thank you so much!” Big Black Dog clasped his hands, his face filled with gratitude.

Big Black Cat remained unmoved. This Big Black Dog was always cunning and rarely spoke the truth. He was only helping now because of their past acquaintance.

Just now, I observed him quietly, Big Black Cat thought. He’s barely holding on; his injuries are actually quite severe.

”Wait a moment!” Big Black Cat turned around, his back to Big Black Dog.

He took out a white bowl, poured a little white wine into it, then retrieved a God Level Dragon Spirit Pill, crushed it, and dropped the powder into the bowl. He swirled the bowl gently, allowing the medicinal power of the Dragon Spirit Pill to infuse the wine.

”Alright, here’s a bowl of Dragon Spirit Pill solution. Drink it!” Big Black Cat tossed the bowl, and it flew through the air to Big Black Dog.

Little black boy is quite cautious... Su Wanyi thought, a hint of admiration in her eyes as she observed Big Black Cat’s caution in deliberately diluting the Dragon Spirit Pill.

”What a potent medicinal aroma...” Big Black Dog took the white bowl, sniffed it gently, and his expression changed, a look of immense shock appearing on his face.

”Cat Brother, this Dragon Spirit Pill is incredibly high-grade!” Big Black Dog’s small eyes stared intently at Big Black Cat, as if trying to discern something.

”Hurry up and drink it! Stop dawdling, or I’m taking it back!” Big Black Cat glared.

”Cat Brother, please don’t take it back! I’ll drink it right now!” Startled, Big Black Dog hastily gulped down the medicinal liquid in the bowl.

Once he finished, he immediately sat down cross-legged and began to refine the potent medicinal energy.

Big Black Cat stood with his hands behind his back, waiting quietly.

”Cat Brother, this Doggy is very cunning. He must have some ulterior motive for sneaking into the Ten Thousand Beast Divine Sect...” Sky-boring Rat transmitted secretly.

”As if you’re not cunning yourself...” Big Black Cat glanced at Sky-boring Rat and snorted dismissively.

Sky-boring Rat used to be a shameless fellow himself. He and Big Black Dog are two peas in a pod.
