Checking in for 100,000 Years

Chapter 748: Chapter 748: Catching Turtles in a Jar?

”Warrior Fairy, this Time Dao Fruit is so precious. Aren’t you keeping it for yourself?” the Chess Fairy asked, picking up his wine glass and speaking calmly.

Although he was desperate to obtain a Time Dao Fruit to break through to the Divine Monarch Realm, the Chess Fairy wasn’t foolish; he knew his own limits.

Time Dao Fruits originated within the Long River of Time, a precious commodity, with only one sprouting every five thousand years. Immortal Weng had countless disciples, and not every one of them received a chance to partake of the Time Dao Fruit each time it appeared. Moreover, this Time Dao Fruit was more suitable for cultivators at the Divine Monarch Realm to consume.

Of course, if the Time Dao Fruit was used to break through the barrier of the True God Realm Tenth Layer, it was undoubtedly an excellent choice. However, given the immortality within the Changhe Immortal Palace, Immortal Weng wouldn’t bestow the Time Dao Fruit upon disciples at the True God Realm. In his view, that would be a waste. It was considered better to advance honestly and steadily to the Divine Monarch Realm.

Now, the Warrior Fairy was so generously offering him a Time Dao Fruit. Clearly, he wanted him to go to the Wine Fairy Palace and deal with those two Life and Death Realm cultivators who had just arrived from the outside world.

This might seem like a trivial matter.

But if word got out in the future, it would inevitably lead to gossip.

If Immortal Weng emerged from his seclusion, a reprimand would surely follow.

”Chess Fairy, my sincerity is abundant. What do you think?” the Warrior Fairy asked, raising his wine glass and staring intently at the Chess Fairy.

As the saying goes, brave men will step forward when the reward is great enough.

He’d already offered a Time Dao Fruit; he refused to believe the Chess Fairy wouldn’t be tempted.

”I accept the Warrior Fairy’s kind intentions!” The Chess Fairy raised his wine glass, gently clinking it against the Warrior Fairy’s, producing a crisp sound.

”Cheers!” The Warrior Fairy was delighted. ”Cheers!” he laughed.

They both drained their glasses.

And so, this covert transaction was completed.

”The Wine Fairy is currently in seclusion. Chess Fairy, when you enter the Wine Fairy Palace, you must keep all disturbances to an absolute minimum... Ideally, control those two and make them submit to the command of my Warrior Fairy Palace!” the Warrior Fairy said casually after wiping his mouth, then refilled the Chess Fairy’s glass.

”Don’t worry. Two mere Life and Death Realm cultivators are as good as caught. The ones to watch out for are the others in the Wine Fairy Palace...” the Chess Fairy chuckled dismissively.

The Wine Fairy Palace had fewer than five female disciples, all of whom had low cultivation bases. As for the Wine Fairy’s puppet incarnation, it was merely at the Eternal Realm. It wasn’t even a True God. How could it be a match for him, a formidable cultivator at the True God Realm Tenth Layer Peak?

”There’s no time to lose. Before the other Immortal Palaces make their move, I implore you, Chess Fairy, to act...” the Warrior Fairy said, lifting his glass with an earnest expression.

”Alright, I’m heading to the Wine Fairy Palace now!” The Chess Fairy clinked glasses, drained his drink, and then turned gallantly and departed.

”They all want to watch others become a laughingstock but aren’t willing to pay any price themselves. Where in the world is there such a good deal?” the Warrior Fairy remarked with a raised eyebrow and a cold laugh, gazing at the empty exit of the great hall.

Many of the other Immortal Palaces were eager to make a move, but they all feared earning a reputation for bullying the weak. So, none of them had acted. And his greatest competitor, the Dragon Fairy, was in secluded cultivation, naturally too preoccupied to intervene. Now, by paying the price of a Time Dao Fruit, he had finally secured the Chess Fairy. It truly hadn’t been easy. As long as the Chess Fairy settled matters at the Wine Fairy Palace, even if the Dragon Fairy himself were to intervene, it would be futile.

As for controlling the two young Life and Death Realm cultivators, the Warrior Fairy wasn’t worried at all; he believed the Chess Fairy was more than capable.

The Chess Fairy didn’t delay, transforming into a streak of light and heading straight for the Wine Fairy Palace.

Upon entering the Wine Fairy Palace, none of its disciples dared to obstruct him. After all, the Eight Great Immortals were renowned, and visits between them were common. No disciple from any Immortal Palace would dare to interfere.

”Chess Fairy, what brings you to my Wine Fairy Palace?”

Just as he was about to reach the small courtyard where Ye Yun and the others resided, a plump figure emerged from an adjacent courtyard, blocking the Chess Fairy’s path.

”Naturally, I’m here to visit the future Wine Fairy!” the Chess Fairy said with a smile, looking unconcerned at the plump woman before him.

”You!” The plump woman’s face flushed red with anger at the Chess Fairy’s words.

She was still the master of the Wine Fairy Palace. Immortal Weng had not yet emerged from his seclusion, and her title as Wine Fairy had not been revoked. Yet—someone was being so presumptuous. The fickleness of human relationships was all too apparent.

”I heard the Poem Fairy visited three days ago. Why can’t I, the Chess Fairy, do the same? Am I not one of the Eight Great Immortals? Am I not—a disciple of Immortal Weng?” The Chess Fairy’s eyes narrowed as he rebuked her harshly, without mercy.

The plump woman fell silent. She indeed had no valid reason to refuse the Chess Fairy’s visit.

”Make way!” The Chess Fairy’s expression was stern as he strode forward.

”The two masters are currently brewing wine. Chess Fairy, please do not disturb them!” the plump woman said solemnly, still blocking his path.

”So, you prefer the hard way!” The Chess Fairy’s eyes flashed like lightning. A surge of power instantly descended, and the plump woman was pinned to the spot, unable to move.

”I’m just paying a visit. What harm could possibly come of it?” the Chess Fairy chuckled softly as he passed by her.

He walked into the small courtyard.

The plump woman stood rooted to the spot, unable to move, her expression filled with anxiety.

Inside the room within the small courtyard.

”Master, someone is here! It’s the Chess Fairy, one of the Eight Great Immortals!” the Ruyi Jade Spider said with a wide grin, looking towards the entrance.

”Finally, something to do! I thought they’d all act like cowards and not dare to show up,” Ye Yun laughed heartily.

”Come, let’s go out and meet this Chess Fairy!” Ye Yun took the lead, pushed open the door, and stepped out, with the Ruyi Jade Spider close behind.

”Greetings, Master!” Seeing Ye Yun emerge from the room, the Chess Fairy cupped his fists and said with an obsequious smile.

”Hehe, so it’s Chess Fairy Master. What brings you to my Wine Fairy Palace?” Ye Yun replied with a faint smile.

”Nothing much, I just came to see the two masters...” The Chess Fairy smiled calmly. His hands spread open, seemingly unintentionally, and a surge of power instantly enveloped the entire courtyard.

”Catching a turtle in a jar?” Ye Yun looked up at the sky and said with a broad smile, ”That suits me just fine...”

Catching a turtle in a jar? The Chess Fairy paused, not quite grasping the meaning behind Ye Yun’s words. He still assumed the target of this ”catching a turtle in a jar” wasn’t himself, but these two Life and Death Realm External Cultivators.

”Haha!” The Chess Fairy laughed heartily. ”I didn’t expect you to be so cooperative, already prepared for the ’turtle in a jar’ scenario! Let me be frank: if you submit to the Warrior Fairy Master, you certainly won’t lack benefits in the future!”

”So, you’re just an errand boy, not the mastermind, eh!” Ye Yun’s eyes flashed. He smiled knowingly and raised his hand, saying, ”Ruyi, you exchange a few moves with him!”

”Yes, Master!” The Ruyi Jade Spider was overjoyed. She skipped and bounded forward, coming to stand before the Chess Fairy.

”Hmm? A mere slip of a girl at the Life and Death Realm wants to fight me?” The Chess Fairy was taken aback, not expecting the two outsider Wine Brewers before him to be so arrogant.

”Looking down on people, are you?” The Ruyi Jade Spider’s eyebrows shot up. She pointed a delicate, fair finger at the Chess Fairy and said indignantly, ”Today, I’ll let you taste this young lady’s power!”

”Hahahaha!” The Chess Fairy burst into loud laughter, tears almost welling up in his eyes.

However, in the next instant, he was shocked to find tears streaming uncontrollably down his face, like two small rivers.

”What’s happening to me?” The Chess Fairy was horrified, completely bewildered by what was happening to his body.
