The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Mountain peaks stretched on without end, trees blotted out the sky and sun, black mist coiled everywhere. Though it was daytime, the place still gave off a gloomy, eerie feeling.

”Is it here?”

Varric Combs replied, ”Yes, this is the outer edge of the Land of Chaotic Streams. Go any deeper and you’ll touch the spatial turbulence. One careless step and you’ll be Teleported into The Unknown Land, and you might never escape for the rest of your life.”

Varric Combs let out a sigh. ”Even though I’ve done a lot of research on space, I still ended up trapped. If Hendrix and the others hadn’t sent over that magical treasure, whether I could have escaped or not would still be a question mark.”

Carson Flores asked curiously, ”The spatial turbulence can’t be probed?”

Varric Combs thought for a moment, then said, ”A single space lies on a single plane. Space or time, they’re both continuous, right?”

Carson Flores nodded. ”Right.”

Varric Combs pointed ahead with his hand. ”That powerhouse used supreme spatial ability to slice this whole region into countless pieces without any pattern. The vast majority of the spatial fragments have been endowed with rules. Once you step into one, you’ll trigger the spatial rules of this area and be Teleported into another space.”

”The other spaces connected by the fragments aren’t one fixed space, but many different spaces. Some of those spaces give you a way out, while others are dead spaces. It’s like a pit trap with a trapdoor lid. You step on the lid, it opens, you fall into the pit, and then the lid closes again—you’re sealed in that pit for good.”

”In the end, I fell into one such space. I spent a long, long time before I finally thought of a few methods, and only then managed to escape under Hendrix and the others’ guidance.”

”From my observations, this Chaotic Streams Space isn’t fixed in place. In other words, it’s mobile. But no matter how it moves, there is a single safe path through it that can take us across this entire chaotic region and into the core area.”

”If nothing is wrong with my deduction, that Space Series Quasi-Saint fell right there. He set up such a complex Chaotic Streams Space to protect himself. I don’t think it’s just to guard his corpse—there must be plenty of good stuff, like his legacy, or magical treasures.”

”When he constructed this Chaotic Streams Space, he definitely set a guiding principle—what kind of person must do what in order to pass. Since we don’t know that principle, we can only test it slowly.”

Carson Flores nodded. ”Understood. I’ll follow your lead, senior.”

Ilvarion Arnold asked doubtfully, ”Senior, our idea is to use big brother’s Incarnation to scout the way. Then why not use other living beings, like Demonic Beasts or Cultivators?”

Varric Combs explained, ”This region is made up of countless fragments. Even if the fragments belong to the same space and time, there are still separations between them. If we use Demonic Beasts or ordinary Cultivators to scout, even if they aren’t swept into an Otherworldly Space, we still can’t sense them.”

”The Doppelganger Divine Ability has an extremely unique effect. As long as it’s still within this Position, in the same space and time, even if there are barriers, Carson Flores can sense the presence of his Incarnation. But if the Incarnation is swept into an Otherworldly Space and is no longer in the same space and time, then Carson Flores will also lose his sense of it.”

Ilvarion Arnold suddenly understood. ”So that means as long as big brother’s Incarnation is leading the way and doesn’t disappear, and we can still sense it, that path is safe. If we can’t sense it, it’s because it’s been dragged into an Otherworldly Space, and that’s a dead end!”

”Exactly!”

Varric Combs fixed his gaze on Carson Flores. ”Your Incarnation doesn’t need to be too powerful. As long as it can scout ahead and you can sense it, that’s enough.”

Carson Flores agreed readily. ”No problem. If they’re dragged into an Otherworldly Space, the Incarnation will self-destruct. Even if I can’t sense their existence, once they die I still have a bloodline sense of them.”

Varric Combs nodded. ”Right, that’s the specific reason I came to find you. Aside from this, leave everything else to me. If we manage to find the Fallen Land and gain something in the end, I won’t let you make this trip for nothing.”

Carson Flores said with a smile, ”Senior can decide everything. I already owe you a favor anyway.”

Varric Combs laughed heartily. ”Good, we’ll talk details after we succeed.”

Carson Flores took the initiative to lay his attitude bare. What he meant was: even if we really gain something, you don’t have to resort to underhanded tricks against me just because you don’t want to share. I already owe you a favor; helping you this time is just paying it back.

Although from the way things looked, the Saint of Thieves didn’t seem like that kind of person, the human heart is hidden in the chest—being a bit cautious is never wrong.

After all, his own strength wasn’t as good as the other party’s.

Varric Combs was razor-sharp and naturally heard the subtext in Carson Flores’s words, which was why he said they’d talk after they succeeded.

If there was enough to share, he would share, treating it as cooperation. If there wasn’t enough to share and he still wanted the spoils, then it would simply count as Carson Flores repaying his favor, and Varric Combs would then find a way to make it up to Carson Flores afterward.

When smart people deal with smart people, it’s always this simple.

”Get ready. We’re going in!”
