The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

”Carson Flores, I’ll be waiting for you in the Crimson Immortal Domain. See you then!”

Once the serious matters were finished, White Jade Star Lord cut the connection, and everyone’s eyes once again gathered on Carson Flores.

Carson Flores naturally knew why everyone was looking at him. He spread his hands. ”I may know Norric, and he did teach me the Way of the Sword Talisman, but that was just some big shot doing something in passing. It doesn’t mean I can ask him to do anything for me. I can’t even get in touch with him.”

”Even if I told you all this, it wouldn’t be of any use, so of course I didn’t say anything. As for White Jade Star Lord, that was you, Senior Combs, who recognized him. I didn’t even know who he was before.”

Everyone thought about it and realized that this did seem to be the case.

Varric Combs chuckled. ”Nobody’s blaming you for anything. We’re just sighing over how good your immortal fate is, kid. Your strength is still so low, yet you know several Quasi-Saints, and they’re all heavyweight bigwigs who’ve acknowledged you. That’s way more impressive than some random immortal fate.”

Carson Flores chuckled and flattered him. ”I got to know White, and through him I got to know you, Senior Combs. Isn’t that also part of my immortal fate?”

Varric Combs curled his lip. ”White Jade Star Lord is extremely powerful, supposedly a Disciple of the Immortal Emperor. Norric, as the Master of the War God Mansion, oversees all war affairs against the Demon Race. You could say he’s in a position of immense power. I’m just a guy who steals things; I can’t be compared to them!”

Carson Flores smiled. ”Each craft has its own specialist. In terms of sheer strength, maybe they’re a bit more formidable, but when it comes to thievery, they’re far beneath you. I saw how guarded White Jade Star Lord was around you, like he was terrified you’d steal all his good stuff. From that angle, your reputation is in no way smaller than theirs.”

That flattery from Carson Flores hit Varric Combs just right, and he grinned with narrowed eyes. ”You kid, you really know how to talk.”

Carson Flores put on a look of utter sincerity. ”I’m just calling it as I see it, not mindlessly flattering you, Senior.”

Varric Combs pointed at Carson Flores. ”Just for that sentence, I’ll cover you from now on. But don’t count on me in a fight, all right? I can’t beat Master of Path. Cyrveth McCarty might not be able to either. At most, I can take you and run.”

Carson Flores smiled. ”Thanks, Senior. But right now I’m a dead man, and a small fry at that. No one’s going to pay me any mind.”

Varric Combs stroked his chin. ”That’s true enough. Ah, whatever. When I roam the rivers and lakes, I wear a thousand faces. Who could possibly find me?”

”Let’s get ready and head to the Land of Chaotic Streams. After that, we’ll go to the Crimson Immortal Domain. Once we leave the Ten Thousand Immortals Domain and get off Master of Path’s turf, his words won’t carry so much weight anymore.”

Carson Flores answered straightforwardly, ”All right!”

Carson Flores crouched down and looked at Snow Zane with genuine sincerity. ”Senior, earlier you staked your own life to avenge our master. I strongly supported that and admired you for it. But now you’ve already given it your all. Even though you failed, you’ve done your best and can answer to your own conscience.”

”You barely managed to claw your way back from death. Senior, don’t give up on yourself just because you didn’t succeed in your revenge. Same old line: as long as you’re alive, there’s still a chance. What you should care about now is your own body—how to stay alive, how to recover your strength, and even how to truly raise it to the full-level Quasi-Saint realm.”

”If that day comes, you’ll have both the strength and the opportunity to seek revenge on Master of Path again. But before that, please temporarily set aside your desire for revenge and live for yourself, all right?”

Snow Zane met Carson Flores’s gaze for a few moments, then sighed. ”Fellow Combs said he saved me on your account. In other words, it was you who saved my life. Then this life is yours, and I’ll listen to you.”

Carson Flores let out a breath of relief. Snow Zane was seriously injured, and it would take a long time to treat her, along with her full cooperation. Carson Flores had been worried that, after failing her revenge and ending up on the brink of death like this, she’d fall into utter despair and self-destruction.

Carson Flores didn’t feel like Snow Zane’s life belonged to him. He just thought that her avenging their master was worthy of admiration, so as long as it was possible, he wanted to save her, even if she couldn’t recover her strength. As long as she stayed alive, that was enough.

”You said it yourself, Senior. Once a promise is made, even four horses can’t chase it down. You’re not allowed to go back on your word, all right?”

Snow Zane nodded. ”I keep my word. Unless I repay you for saving my life, unless I become a true Quasi-Saint, I won’t go cause trouble for Master of Path again. Before that, I’ll live for myself.”

Carson Flores exhaled in a long breath. This would do.

Snow Zane not only accepted his proposal, she even took the initiative to say she owed him a life and would repay the favor in the future.

Heh, isn’t this situation reversed now?

Before, Snow Zane had grabbed him by force and made him serve as her subordinate, and now she was saying she’d listen to him?

A Quasi-Saint, listening to him?

Carson Flores was pleased, but he also started pondering how to help Snow Zane heal.

Her origin had been wounded—and not lightly. Even the Spirit Buddha Pill was only barely keeping her alive, keeping her injuries from worsening.

Weren’t they planning to go to the Crimson Immortal Domain later? He could ask White Jade Star Lord or Norric for advice. With how powerful they were, they ought to have a way, right?
