The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 1488: Chapter 1488 I Have No Close Ones

Carson Flores never expected Selah Ellison Fairy to ask such a direct question. He pressed his lips together, slightly awkward, then answered frankly, ”I can’t bear to part with you.”

Selah Ellison’s eyes narrowed slightly, ”If I recall correctly, you have Daoist couple companions, and two of them, no?”

Carson instantly felt even more embarrassed.

How should he explain?

His reluctance wasn’t about love?

Following someone so beautiful, so generous, so domineering—life was comfortable, pleasant, so naturally he couldn’t bear to leave?

As Carson was trying to form an explanation, Selah Ellison waved her hand dismissively, ”No need to explain.”

Carson’s words were caught in his throat, and he simply gave up.

All right then.

You’re the boss, it’s up to you, interpret it however you like!

If you want to believe I’ve fallen for you, that’s fine too!

The two stood silently for a while before Selah Ellison instructed, ”It’s been ages since we’ve had a proper meal. Make us something to eat.”

”Sure!”

Carson agreed readily, thinking: following the boss and cooking for her, what’s the big deal?

After all this time together, hadn’t he already gained countless treasures?

The Five Elements Immortal-Slaying Formation, the Glazed Universe Umbrella, the Wooden Talisman Amulet, the Ink Silkworm Robe, the Demonic Beast Inner Pill...

Time slipped away, and before long, a month had passed.

The Green Lotus Fire Spring surrounding the gigantic Golden-Winged Great Roc egg had been completely absorbed by the egg. The heartbeat of the roc inside the shell had grown increasingly discernible. Each beat seemed to grip Carson’s heart violently, sending waves of blood coursing through his body.

”It’s about to hatch!”

Selah Ellison stood beside the giant egg, staring intently. The anticipation on her usually cold and stern face was palpable.

Carson’s gaze was equally expectant. For this creature, the two of them had stayed in this wilderness for almost a year, enduring the terrifying Great Demon, the Flame Dragon Ghost Bat. Selah Ellison had nearly lost her life because of it.

”Do you want to raise it?”

Selah Ellison’s gaze remained fixed on the egg, but her sudden question came out of nowhere.

Carson was stunned, turning his head in shock, ”Fairy...”

”If you want to raise it, you can have it.”

Selah Ellison’s tone was calm, ”I probably won’t live long enough to see it fully grown. You’re at the Human Immortal stage, so raising it would be fitting. Just like those three demonic beasts you used to have by your side, it could help you and grow alongside you...”

Did he want to raise it?

Of course he did!

This was the Golden-Winged Great Roc!

Wasn’t Selah Ellison herself once gravely injured, fleeing for her life from such a powerful being?

Such a terrifying existence—imagine nurturing one from infancy. What would he have to fear then?

”Fairy, you risked your life to steal this...”

Selah Ellison replied indifferently, ”Indeed, but I simply wanted to take it and hatch it. However, I don’t have the time to raise it...”

Though Carson deeply desired it—who wouldn’t want such an extraordinary creature?—he suppressed his greed and earnestly offered his advice, ”Fairy, I don’t know if you still consider this a return for the Nine Revolution Great Land Pill recipe, but you’ve already given me so much. Besides, I already have the recipe; I didn’t take it solely for you, so you truly don’t owe me anything.”

”I don’t know which sect you come from, Fairy, but I feel even if you don’t have the time to raise it, bringing it back to your sect, where it could serve as your sect’s guardian beast, would be an excellent choice.”

”If you have someone close to you, gifting it to them could work too. If raised well, this Golden-Winged Great Roc could ensure a lifetime of peace. Being neither family nor close companions to you, I feel unworthy to accept such an extraordinarily rare beast.”

Selah Ellison turned her head to look into Carson’s eyes, seemingly trying to gauge his true intentions.

After all, this was the Golden-Winged Great Roc—who could resist the temptation of raising one?

Think about the White Ape guardian beast they encountered earlier; it wasn’t even worthy of carrying the roc’s shoes, let alone comparing its strength—it might just wind up as the roc’s dinner.

Carson met Selah Ellison’s gaze, his expression steady, his eyes clear.

”Why decline?”

Carson chuckled, ”I too have greed in my heart, but when I put myself in your shoes, I realized that—even if you can’t use this roc—someone close to you surely could. Otherwise, if they find out you gave the Golden-Winged Great Roc to me later, perhaps they’ll resent you, wondering why you’d entrust such a treasure to an outsider like me...”

In Carson’s eyes, Selah Ellison saw sincerity, and she understood his words came from the heart.

Selah Ellison’s lips curved ever so slightly, ”That’s quite admirable.”

Admirable?

What did she mean by that?

Before Carson could piece it together, a crisp cracking sound echoed from beside him.

Instinctively, Carson turned his head and saw a crack forming on the giant egg—it was quickly spreading. Inside, the baby Golden-Winged Great Roc struggled to push free, its beak breaking a large hole in the shell.

”It’s hatched!”

Carson turned around excitedly, only to find that Selah Ellison was already gone.

She had left the incubation chamber!

”Fairy...”

”It’s yours now.”

Selah Ellison’s voice was calm, devoid of any particular emotion, ”Don’t overthink it. I don’t have anyone close to me. If I had to name someone, it would probably be... you.”
