Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One

Jiang Mantian, concerned about her son and daughter-in-law’s relationship, called to check on the situation.

Jiang Heng folded the prescription and told the butler, ”Inform sir that the Young Madam’s illness has relapsed. Unable to bear the blow, she had an emotional breakdown and went to the seaside to cry. From now on, the Young Madam will rest quietly in her room and won’t cause any more trouble.”

”Understood, young master.” The butler could sense the harsh decision behind Jiang Heng’s words and glanced quietly upstairs.

Though unaware of what exactly had transpired between the Young Madam and the young master, it was clear that the Young Madam must have done something to chill the young master’s heart, leading to her being confined.

Ultimately, this was the Jiang Family’s domain, and those working here only cared about Jiang Heng in their hearts.

Jiang Heng’s attitude was their attitude.

”Understood, I’ll go and report back immediately.” With that, the butler went to call Jiang Mantian.

Last night, Xu Xingguang elevated her status to the entire film crew’s food guru with a hearty fish hot pot.

Today, when male lead Fang Jinsu saw her, instead of asking when she was free to play mahjong, he subtly inquired when she’d cook next because he wanted to join in for a meal.

As Fang Jinsu asked, Cheng Xizhou and the director all perked up their ears, afraid of missing Xu Xingguang’s response.

Seeing everyone’s reaction, Xu Xingguang found it amusing. ”From now on, I will cook every Friday night. You all are welcome to come and join if you’re free.”

Upon hearing this, the director and the others were overjoyed, though Fang Jinsu seemed a bit disappointed, muttering, ”We have to wait until Friday, huh.” After having Xu Xingguang’s cooking the previous night, he found today’s crew-prepared boxed lunch hard to swallow.

Half-jokingly, half-seriously, Xu Xingguang replied, ”I’m a screenwriter, not a cook. If you want me to cook for you all every day, you’d need to pay extra.”

The director grinned as he asked Xu Xingguang, ”How much would Teacher Xu charge? Name your price.”

Xu Xingguang opened her mouth wide: ”Nothing too modest, just round it up—a billion.”

The director shook his head, ”You’ve got a big appetite.”

Everyone chuckled, and the matter was brushed aside.

During dinner, Fang Jinsu suddenly brought his boxed meal and sat in Xu Xingguang’s canopy.

Picking at the cauliflower in the box, he said to Xu Xingguang, ”Teacher Xu, are you interested in collaborating with me?”

Xu Xingguang was puzzled, ”Collaborate?”

She’s a screenwriter, and Fang Jinsu is an actor; what could they possibly collaborate on?

A play she writes and he acts in?

Xu Xingguang asked Fang Jinsu, ”Is Mr. Fang interested in continuing to work with me on the next play?”

Fang Jinsu shook his head, ”Not a work collaboration.”

”Then what does Mr. Fang mean?”

Fang Jinsu changed the topic, ”You must have heard some rumors about me, Teacher Xu.”

Xu Xingguang had indeed heard quite a bit, though she wasn’t sure which rumor Fang Jinsu was referring to.

Xu Xingguang diplomatically replied, ”Mr. Fang has impressive acting skills and a steadfast character, and is a guaranteed box office draw. I’ve heard many stories about Mr. Fang. Which specific aspect is Mr. Fang referring to?”

Fang Jinsu touched his nose and lowered his eyes, ”The thing about me having a wealthy benefactor.”

Xu Xingguang suddenly realized, ”Oh, that one.”

She had indeed heard some things.

The rumor was that Fang Jinsu had a very powerful wealthy benefactor behind him, a super rich lady with means and influence. The reason Fang Jinsu could navigate the industry and rise to his current status effortlessly was all thanks to this super rich lady’s support.

Seeing Fang Jinsu bring up this topic himself, Xu Xingguang couldn’t hide her curious gossip nature. Leaning closer, she lowered her voice and asked, ”Is it true that a super rich lady is sponsoring you?”

Fang Jinsu shook his head in resignation and clarified, ”There is indeed a rich lady, but she’s not my benefactor—she’s my sister.”

”What?” Xu Xingguang was surprised.

”Biological sister, the genuine kind.” Fang Jinsu, worried that Xu Xingguang wouldn’t believe him, specifically opened his phone gallery to a family photo.

Pointing to the photo of a hefty woman with undeniable bright features and a gold necklace as thick as one’s pinky, Fang Jinsu said, ”This is my sister, Ying Ruoruo.”

Xu Xingguang: ”...”

She stared at Fang Jinsu’s sister for a few more moments before saying, ”Your sister’s name and her appearance could not be more unrelated.”

Fang Jinsu laughed at Xu Xingguang’s comment. ”Haha, you might as well just say my sister should be called Ying Zhuangzhuang instead.”

Xu Xingguang wouldn’t dare say it directly. ”How come you two are siblings but have different surnames?”
