Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One

His movements were as gentle as a butterfly’s kiss on a flower’s stamen, fearing that any larger action might break the stamen.

Bai Xuan gazed at the man who kissed her scar with a complex expression, her eyes inexplicably filled with fear.

After the kiss ended, Jiang Heng straightened up, gazing down at Bai Xuan, and said, ”You always asked me why I fell in love with you at first sight.”

Bai Xuan nodded, asking the same question again, ”So why did you fall in love with me at first sight?”

Jiang Heng said, ”Because we knew each other as children, and you once saved me.”

Jiang Heng traced the scar on Bai Xuan’s wrist, asking her, ”Do you remember how you got this scar?”

Bai Xuan suppressed her confusion, shook her head, and explained, ”You’ve asked this before, and I’ve honestly told you.”

Bai Xuan said, ”I can’t remember how I got the scar, just that it was there since I was very young.”

Nodding, Jiang Heng asked her again, ”How much do you remember from your childhood?”

Bai Xuan continued shaking her head, ”I can’t remember. I was sick as a child, had a high fever, and I can’t recall my early childhood memories.”

”Do you really believe that?” Jiang Heng shook his head and told Bai Xuan, ”It’s not like that. I know how you got this scar.”

Bai Xuan asked him, ”How do you know?”

Jiang Heng said, ”Because your scar was left from saving me.”

”What?” Bai Xuan was somewhat shocked, covering her soft lips, ”But why don’t I remember?”

Tonight, Jiang Heng couldn’t calm his emotions and suddenly felt the urge to confess everything.

He didn’t want to hide anything anymore and decided to reveal the truth.

He told Bai Xuan, ”Back when we were kidnapped by Rashomon, and I was close to death from hunger and thirst, you voluntarily cut your wrist, allowing your blood to drip into my unconscious mouth. At that time, my consciousness was blurry, and driven by survival instinct, I held onto your arm and wouldn’t let go.”

”When I woke up, you were gone. I always thought you were dead, but I never imagined that, over ten years later, I would meet you again.”

Unable to resist, Jiang Heng pulled Bai Xuan into his arms and spoke with heartache, ”You are Bai Yusheng’s daughter, once kidnapped by Rashomon, and the old scar on your wrist is the proof. You are the little girl who saved me back then!”

Jiang Heng kissed Bai Xuan’s soft hair and gently apologized, ”I’m sorry, Xuan’er. I almost got you killed back then.”

Bai Xuan, feeling dizzy, held onto Jiang Heng and said, ”My mind is so confused.”

”I know you feel confused after learning the truth. But believe me, everything I said is true. If you don’t believe me, you can ask mom.”

The only person who knows the truth is Bai Xuan’s mother.

”Okay.”

Due to Bai Xuan’s weak health and low resistance, making it inconvenient for her to travel or exert herself, the Jiang Family’s driver brought Bai Xuan’s mother, Jie Siyu, to the Jiang Family.

Jie Siyu, who greatly resembled Bai Xuan, was a gentle, soft-spoken woman whose voice was as soothing as a spring breeze.

Jie Siyu was led into the courtyard by the butler, and she evaluated Bai Xuan’s complexion, nodding with satisfaction, saying, ”Jiang Heng really treats you impeccably.”

Bai Xuan undoubtedly knew about Jiang Heng’s deep affection towards her.

In order to procure suitable P blood type for her, he didn’t hesitate to deceive Xu Xingguang. To obtain Xu Xingguang’s blood, he even crossed moral boundaries to threaten Xu Xingguang’s family.

Facing Xu Xingguang’s furious retaliation, he was willing to step forward and express remorse by bleeding himself.

Bai Xuan couldn’t find a man better than Jiang Heng.

”Your condition has relapsed, so you must take good care of yourself without any mishaps. If Xu Xingguang wakes up and your condition worsens, it will be difficult to find the right blood lineage.”

Speaking with a tone of regret and reluctance, Jie Siyu wished Xu Xingguang would remain sick so that Bai Xuan could have a lifelong mobile blood bank.

Bai Xuan didn’t comment on this matter, as she was more concerned about another issue.

”Mom.” Bai Xuan placed her scarred hand on the table, staring at the scar, asking Jie Siyu, ”Mom, how did this scar come about?”

Jie Siyu’s gaze flashed.

She avoided answering and furrowed her brows, asking Bai Xuan, ”Why are you asking this again?”

Bai Xuan, confused, said, ”I remember you once told me that I got this scar when I was little, trying tiptoe to reach the watermelon on the table, and accidentally knocked it over, cutting myself on the fruit knife inside it.”

Jie Siyu avoided the question, countering, ”So how do you think the scar came about? Could it have been me who cut you?”
