Chapter 1134: Chapter 1106: The World Is a Gear (Bonus Update for 2,700 Monthly Tickets)

”Mr. Wu, actually... I charge quite a bit for treating patients. Do you have any opinions about me?” Qian couldn’t help but ask, noticing how much his attitude differed from her past life.

”Haha! I heard from your mentor that although you charge a lot, you’re also compassionate and often treat people for free. I heard you recently lent thousands of dollars to a classmate so her boyfriend could get medical treatment, right?”

Mr. Wu was referring to the future famous female writer Qian encountered when teaching. Her figure resembled a doughy bun.

”I thought I was doing good deeds without leaving a name, how come everyone knows about it?”

”That’s because the girl you helped brought her boyfriend to see my apprentice. My apprentice is the head of the psychiatry department in your city. He found the boyfriend odd, saying he thought the first time he saw him he could recover without medication, but the girl returned insisting on getting a prescription, so my apprentice asked me for advice.”

Mr. Wu came to the meeting and took the chance to see his apprentice. When he heard about it, he personally examined the patient and realized his apprentice had misdiagnosed. If the girl hadn’t returned to insist on medication, her boyfriend’s condition would have worsened.

Mr. Wu immediately came up with a remedial plan and chatted with the girl who looked like a doughy bun. Through this conversation, he learned about Qian lending her money, and even how Qian told her to take her boyfriend to see a doctor. Upon inquiry, he realized she was the favorite disciple of his former crush, Liu Linlin.

That’s why he had a great fondness for Qian, and seeing the young girl felt pleasing.

After hearing Mr. Wu’s explanation, Qian’s mind suddenly cleared.

Yet, she also felt a bit melancholic.

Initially, she helped the doughy bun girl author out of some personal thought, not expecting to inadvertently change the attitude of her future industry supervisor who disliked her in her past life.

This was benevolence repaid; the world is like a clever cogwheel where a slight change can alter fate dramatically. Yet, as someone considered not good, by doing a small thing she changed the trajectory of being disliked in her past life. Xiaoqiang saved so many people, yet he hasn’t received any reward?

Thinking of Xiaoqiang who still doesn’t have a treatment plan, Qian felt heavier.

”What’s wrong, little steel egg? I’ve never seen you with that expression.” Mr. Liu asked with concern.

”Teacher, Mr. Wu, do you both really think this scale is fine? Please take another look.”

”I think there’s no problem. It clearly reflects a very sunny, mentally healthy person.” Mr. Wu, a recognized authority, was quite confident in his judgment.

”Although it seems fine, I still feel something is off...” Mr. Liu inspected it again with doubt.

”Liu, I need to criticize you here. In our field, we can’t rely on intuition. We are a natural science and must respect science.” Mr. Wu insisted on his view.

”Even so, I feel there’s so much we need to explore and discover. Solely relying on existing knowledge can’t resolve all problems... Wu, do you feel the domestic standard has much room for improvement? It would be great to absorb some advanced external concepts.”

Mr. Liu expressed regret.

”Do you think the moon abroad is rounder than ours? I believe we’re doing quite well now.” Mr. Wu, patriotic to the core, had a hint of old crankiness.

Seeing the two authoritative professors start arguing over her matter, Qian couldn’t just stand by, so she spoke up to mediate.

”Teacher, you shouldn’t argue over this, you both have valid points.”

”Don’t muddle things up! Wu, let me ask you this, do you think Qio Yu Xuan is now the top in our field?”

”With hourly fees of tens of thousands — what can you say about this kind of person?” Mr. Wu retorted.

”How much they charge is their economic freedom. Your apprentice charged cheaply and almost misdiagnosed — money shouldn’t measure skill. No matter what we charge, our skills must be high, even without charging, we must treat people well!”

”Liu, your mindset now is somewhat dangerous!”

Mr. Wu realized his former crush, ever since remarrying that Liu, had become fiery and unreasonable.

”I’m focusing on issues, not people.” Mr. Liu insisted on the need to learn more due to shortcomings.

”Together, you’re over a hundred years old. Arguing over a distant matter seems worthless.” Qian advised, feeling somewhat embarrassed that her topic had sparked their argument.

The academic research discussion had been harmonious; her arrival disrupted it with a quarrel.

After packing the scales she brought, she respectfully addressed her teacher.

”Teacher, I have urgent matters to attend to. I won’t be at school for the next couple of days.”

Mr. Liu sensed something amiss in Qian’s emotions but was constrained by Wu’s presence from inquiring further. He suppressed his concern to kindly advise her.

”Don’t scare yourself when facing issues. I’ll thoroughly research this and see if there are other breakthroughs.”

”Thank you.”

After speaking, Qian left, but the debate between Mr. Wu and Mr. Liu didn’t stop.

”Your apprentice is quite a polite child.” Mr. Wu, intending to drop the topic, was hindered by Mr. Liu’s persistence.

”Of course my apprentice is good, but don’t forget she charges high fees too. If you admire my apprentice, why not acknowledge Mr. Qio’s abilities?”

”Can this be the same? Although your apprentice sometimes charges high fees, she also spends her money to help those in need, showing she has a healer’s mind. But have you seen what Qio Yu Xuan has become? It’s just money fleecing! If I’m ever elected, my first move will be to regulate industry standards, to absolutely prevent the emergence of mercenary doctors like Qio Yu Xuan!”

”Tsk, tsk, your thick head really refuses to open up. Hurry up and leave, my place can’t accommodate such a big Buddha like you anymore. If you don’t go, you’ll miss the second bus!”

Mr. Liu issued an eviction notice, feeling irate due to divergent views. She admirably respected Qio Yu Xuan’s medical expertise and hoped Qio could mentor Qian to bring fresh techniques, enhancing existing standards.

From friendly chats to sudden hostility, Mr. Wu felt aggrieved; he’d only wanted to reform the industry for public welfare — why didn’t his former crush support him?

”Liu, you’ve become more vulgar since remarrying; you weren’t like this before. It’s that vulgar old Liu of yours that rubbed off on you—” Mr. Wu hadn’t finished expressing his grievance about his previous crush when a loud noise came from the doorway.

They saw Liu, who’d sneakily listened for a while, kick open the door after grocery shopping, wielding a hefty resistance tool weighing dozens of pounds — having just returned from exercise.

”Hey, isn’t this Wu? Wu, long time no see!” With a slight exertion from his large hands, Liu wielded the hefty resistance tool like a spring, effortlessly twisting it, producing metallic sounds.
