Archaeological excavation site at Beiguli.

Gu Xi glanced up at Kro who was seriously engaged in archaeology over there, then lowered his head and flipped through the book in his hand again.

It has been more than twenty days since arriving at this archaeological excavation site. With the two previous sites, combined, Gu Xi could say he’s followed Kro in archaeology for nearly two and a half months.

Gu Xi’s attitude shifted from initial excitement to release the Undead for assistance to now sitting aside studying his own endeavors, having experienced much in between.

Not to mention, Krelu would remind Gu Xi with every new archaeological site that they’re here to do archaeology, not to disturb the sleeping Undead.

That point alone made Gu Xi quite annoyed.

Never mind whether there are Undead haunting the archaeological site.

Even if there were, as a Undead Mage with abilities like Peach Mountain Ghost Suppression and Death Lord, what’s wrong with communicating with them?

Not to mention, this field of bones—you dig as archaeology, I dig and it’s not archaeology?

What kind of reasoning is that?

If Kro’s archaeology didn’t continuously invite some attacks, allowing Gu Xi to eliminate some sporadic enemies, he would have thought of directly grabbing Kro’s archaeological map and excavating the site himself.

Why would he be sitting bored in the blazing sun reading a book?

Luckily, there’s only three days left of the three-month period.

Three days later, with the task complete, Gu Xi doesn’t have to guard Kro and can go back to the real world to study.

These days have finally come to an end.

After another glance at Kro’s side, Gu Xi refocused on the book in his hand.

During this period, the books Gu Xi read were mostly transcribed from Ancestor City, concerning some Undead Knowledge.

One could say that within these three months, Gu Xi has performed a relatively systematic review of his own system.

He filled in some knowledge and passive skills previously unlearned or overlooked.

At the same time, he managed to organize and categorize some of the skills.

The passive skills Gu Xi originally studied mostly revolved around the Soul Summoning Skill, including the subsequent Undead Transformation and Resurrection Skill, as well as skills enhancing the Undead such as Undead Enhancement, Undead Domination, and Undead Research.

There are also skills for different Undead branches like Soul Whisper, Corpse Bone Research, Corpse Structure, Soul Knowledge, etc.

These not only lacked a systematic organization but were incomplete.

At the onset of being a Undead Mage, they were still handy.

But as the Undead Mage’s level rises, the quality of corpses faced becomes increasingly better.

Some knowledge fell behind.

Not to mention, Gu Xi is also studying ”Taishan Prefect’s Secret Record,” where the higher levels demand stricter knowledge requirements regarding the Undead.

Currently, Gu Xi is somewhat stalled.

The entire passive skill system shows clear gaps.

The Soul Summoning Skill is nearing Level 20, but the levels of knowledge and passive skills learned around this skill aren’t high; neither subsequent nor enhancing nor branching skills have surpassed Level 10, with some essential knowledge yet to be learned.

This dragged Gu Xi down, influencing his current growth.

Furthermore, other passive skills aren’t forming a system; Fitness Skill exceeding Level 20 lacks corresponding follow-up, branching, or enhancement skills.

The same applies to Pathfinding Skill and Leadership Skill.

And various magical systems show an extremely chaotic foundational structure.

All these are Gu Xi’s issues.

He’s witnessed them within these three months.

But he has no energy to tackle those matters.

All he can do now is clear out undead-related knowledge and passive skills, patching up missing parts.

Regarding other matters, perhaps they will wait for later.

With limited time now, he focuses on learning more.

While thinking, Gu Xi keeps his attention on the book in hand.

This book is titled ”Yin House Evil Qi Enhancement Manual (Feng Shui Volume),” detailing how a Yin House can be converted into a blessed land.

It’s an undead-related technique, but not an undead mage technique.

Just that Gu Xi’s studies are broad, he has somewhat grasped the route for Undead.

At least his Death City, Corpse Nurturing Land, and even parts of ”Taishan Prefect’s Secret Record” offer responses to this connection.

As he reads, Gu Xi attempts to understand some of the techniques, occasionally using the Yellow Springs Dragon Robe’s view to observe the archaeological site’s circumstances, comparing them internally.

Sometimes, Gu Xi records notes, jotting down his thoughts.

Gradually, his focus converges entirely.

At that moment, Gu Xi suddenly feels something, raising his head to look in Kro’s direction, noticing him hastily packing the incomplete ancient items and rushing towards Gu Xi.

It’s their method of coordination during this period.

Whether Gu Xi or Kro detects external threats, they quickly halt their tasks, regroup by Gu Xi’s side, who handles the sudden enemy appearance.

Normally, Gu Xi detects more occurrences, while Kro detects fewer.

After all, Kro isn’t in a combat profession; his ability to notice issues relies entirely on his passive Mind Reading Skill. When hostility is significant, though the enemy’s position may be distant, he can somewhat perceive it.

Like this time, Kro immediately sensed danger; he opted not to test his luck but promptly ran towards Gu Xi.

After coordinating for such a long time, Kro clearly understands Gu Xi’s methods.

As long as he runs within a fifteen-meter range of Gu Xi, he enters the defensive range of Gu Xi’s Extreme Sunlight Carrier.

At that time, regardless where the enemy’s attack emerges from, Extreme Sunlight will immediately appear to rescue him.

Having cooperated with Gu Xi for so long, once he starts moving, Gu Xi knows an enemy has appeared and will immediately dispatch his troops.

This time was no different; as Kro ran over, Gu Xi had already risen, and the Garrison Gate immediately appeared before Kro.

With the Garrison Gate’s appearance, the city wall extends rapidly outwards, mass groups of Scarecrows stand on the wall, and on either side of the gate, several Tree Pits of the Dead emerge directly.

These tree-like undead now firmly reside outside the Garrison Gate.

Even if the Magic Plant District was relocated, they show no intention of leaving, instead they continuously remain stationed.

Now they are considered part of the Garrison Gate, able to appear with the walls outside the gate.
