Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies

The clerk sent from Shengjing wore a fawning, flattering smile on his face.

He rubbed his hands together: ”Lord Chaos, you see, since Shengjing has already given you a satisfactory answer on this matter, those Elemental Ore Veins you took earlier, could you possibly...”

”No!”

Zhang Yi answered without the slightest hesitation.

Are you kidding? Once something entered his mouth, how could there be any logic in spitting it back out?

The clerk’s face stiffened instantly, but he refused to give up and pressed on: ”Even returning just half would be fine! After all, you took such a massive amount in one go, that’s more than the total output Shengjing has mined over the past three years combined!”

Zhang Yi walked over and patted him on the shoulder.

”What’s yours and what’s mine? We’re all citizens of the Huaxu Nation. We’re all working for our homeland! Whether it’s in my hands or in the Shengjing district, it’s the same. My friend, you need to broaden your perspective!”

Then, ignoring the clerk’s pleading gaze, Zhang Yi directly shooed him out.

Since Qin Qigong had already stepped down over at the Shengjing district, they naturally wouldn’t sever ties with him over the Elemental Ore Vein issue.

And this time around, Zhang Yi had truly raked in a fortune.

He cheerfully gathered everyone, said his farewells to Zhu Zheng, and prepared to return to Tianshui City.

However, he had no intention of returning the satellite control authority of the Jiangnan Region to Zhu Zheng either.

Zhang Yi walked out of the room and looked up at the sky, where brightness broke through the haze.

Snowflakes continued to drift down softly, and the endless deep space above gave off a strong sense of unease, as if at any moment a giant Love of Death might come falling down from it.

”I have to account for that possibility.”

Zhang Yi said softly.

Yang Xinxin said to Zhang Yi: ”Brother, you don’t need to worry about this problem. We can detect the movements of every single launch silo in the world right now. We’ll have plenty of time to react.”

Zhang Yi rubbed his brow.

”But that’s still not enough! Even if we can predict these things in advance, our base in Tianshui City still has the possibility of being attacked and destroyed by others. Just thinking about it makes me uncomfortable.”

He then looked to the side, where his chief mechanic, and also his only mechanical expert, Lu Keran stood obediently behind him. She had delicate short hair and wore a black down jacket with white fur trim.

Her face, no bigger than a palm, was fair and adorable, making it hard to imagine that she could single-handedly lift thirty kilograms of machinery.

”Keran, has your research made any progress now?”

”About the plan I mentioned before, the one to turn Tianshui City into a massive fortress. Is it feasible?”

Upon hearing Zhang Yi bring up her field of work, Lu Keran’s face immediately lit up with excitement.

”Brother, it’s already in the planning stages! As of now, the outer walls of our shelter have undergone my sixth complete material replacement.”

”The current basement can withstand the impact of a small-scale Love of Death.”

”The most crucial part is the addition of the Barrier Stone material! It gives excellent defensive effects against Transcendent attacks as well!”

The Barrier Stone was a material Zhang Yi had found in the Nash Kingdom, located underground in the Southwest Region.

Although the Nash Kingdom had always maintained the lifestyle of an ancient kingdom, they possessed this special material called Barrier Stone, which could greatly influence the abilities of Transcendents.

Even Zhang Yi and his group had suffered quite a bit because of it back in the Nash Kingdom.

Zhang Yi had been deeply impressed by it, so he had specially brought back a considerable amount back then and handed it over to Lu Keran for research.

Hearing that Lu Keran had already achieved good results, Zhang Yi nodded with satisfaction.

”Excellent, we must continuously upgrade our defensive fortifications!”

Zhang Yi took a deep breath. ”I have a feeling like this. Sooner or later, we will face even more powerful enemies!”

His muscles tensed, and he instinctively wanted to wrap his arms around his own shoulders.

”Only an absolutely impenetrable defense can give me enough sense of security!”

He had made his plans.

From now on, if anything like God Essence or Rite Spirit came into his hands, he would definitely save it for Lu Keran to use.

Not expecting her combat prowess to be formidable, but hoping only that she could forge the most unbreakable shelter in the world for him.

...

Shengjing City.

Snow filled the sky, and beneath the gloomy heavens, the military airport of Shengjing City was heavily guarded, with an air of bleak desolation and killing intent permeating the atmosphere.

Along both sides of the road, Dragon’s Roar Guards clad in combat suits and wielding special weapons stood as straight as javelins.

The doors of the indoor airport had already opened, and a massive F-37, shaped like a cigar, sat parked at the entrance, waiting for departure.

Through the wind and snow, an elderly man with graying hair walked forward step by step, wearing a gray-green military overcoat.

This old man, who had held power in the Shengjing district for three years, showed no trace of dejection on his face today despite stepping down. Instead, his demeanor was noticeably more relaxed.

He arrived at the airport escorted by his guards.

After stepping down, he would leave Shengjing and head to Ning City on the edge of the Shengjing district to take charge of the work there.

The living conditions there were far worse than in Shengjing, with very scarce population and resources.

Originally, the higher-ups of Shengjing had prepared excellent retirement conditions for him, hoping he would withdraw to a secondary position.

But Qin Qigong merely let out a hearty laugh.

”After the apocalypse, the world situation hasn’t stabilized yet. My heart isn’t willing to go quiet either!”

That was what he said, and he proactively applied to go to Ning City, to build up that bitter, cold place.

Qin Qigong arrived at the airport, and his guard, carrying his suitcase, was about to escort him onto the plane.

But at that moment, a person walked over from another direction.

A middle-aged man of similar age to Qin Qigong, but with a more youthful demeanor and a tall, lean frame.

This was Meng Yuanjun, who was succeeding Qin Qigong as the second supreme commander of the Shengjing district during the special period.

The two old friends, and old rivals, met once again, exchanging glances.

A smile appeared on Qin Qigong’s face, while Meng Yuanjun’s expression was somewhat complicated.

Seeing this, the guards nearby tactfully stepped back a few paces.

The two men walked toward each other.

Qin Qigong extended his right hand and said to Meng Yuanjun: ”Congratulations, Old Meng! From now on, you’re the head honcho of the Shengjing district.”

Two powerful, weathered hands gripped each other firmly.

Meng Yuanjun said: ”When I heard it was you who recommended me, I initially couldn’t quite believe it.”

A profound smile appeared on Qin Qigong’s face. ”You’ll understand why I did this in the future!”

Meng Yuanjun raised an eyebrow: ”No need to wait for the future. Don’t think I don’t know, this position isn’t so easy to sit in.”

These were not peaceful times. The Huaxu Nation faced internal and external troubles, plagued by all sorts of problems.

As the representative of the Huaxu Nation, the Shengjing district, its supreme commander had no idea how many worries he would have to bear.

Qin Qigong laughed heartily: ”What? Are you scared?”

”Are you kidding? What would I be scared of!”

Meng Yuanjun chuckled. ”I just never thought you’d have a moment of confusion yourself.”

He stared at Qin Qigong, speaking with some meaning-laden implication.
