Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Teng Hongming, covered in injuries, burst through the door, his arms and face smeared with scrapes and blood.

He took a few steps forward and grabbed Zhang Biyun, dragging her. ”What are you dawdling for? Let’s go. They’re about to attack.”

’Damn that Golden City Base. They have no honor at all, actually daring to make a real move on us.’

”Where’s the Base Chief?”

”The Base Chief has already been moved to safety. Hurry up and come with me.” Teng Hongming dragged the woman toward the door.

Zhang Biyun, still frantically gathering the makeup on the table, said, ”Wait, what’s the rush? Why are they suddenly attacking?”

”Didn’t the Base Chief say he would talk this over with the people from Golden City Base?”

”Talk? What’s there to talk about? Their cargo planes are already over our base, loading up supplies.”

’This is completely intolerable! Isn’t this just blatant robbery?’

”So the Base Chief couldn’t take it, and you opened fire on them?” Zhang Biyun asked, a look of astonishment on her face.

’She really hadn’t expected that the normally calm and steady Base Chief would actually make such a rookie mistake.’

’As expected, who can truly, perfectly control their innermost thoughts and emotions?’

’No one can.’

’Not even Base Chief Zhou Jiangye.’

”Stop wasting time. Hurry...” Teng Hongming pulled the woman out through the tent flap, not even sparing a glance for the woman lying on the ground, bleeding from all seven orifices.

”Teng Hongming, if you want to be a fugitive dog, don’t drag me down with you.” Zhang Biyun violently shook off Teng Hongming’s hand, a flash of cold anger on her face.

”What else do you want?” A surge of fury rose in Teng Hongming’s heart.

’If it weren’t for this woman recklessly trying to hunt down that Xie Ning from Golden City Base, would any of this subsequent mess have happened?’

’She’s completely useless and only good for causing trouble.’

’Death is at our doorstep and she’s still arguing with me. Can she not go a single day without stirring up drama?’

”Who are you calling a fugitive dog?” Teng Hongming felt like strangling the woman. ”The car is right outside. We’re leaving now!”

”Don’t wait for the people from Golden City Base to attack. It’ll be too late to leave then.”

”I’m not afraid.”

Seeing her confident expression, Teng Hongming couldn’t help but narrow his eyes dangerously. ”You...”

His thoughts turned to the woman who had collapsed at the entrance, bleeding from all seven orifices. ’That was Chai Lei from the CityArrow Club, wasn’t it?’

A Speed Ability User.

’So... this woman has found some new way to save her own skin, hasn’t she?’

’Damn it, this damn woman is getting more and more out of control.’

’If it weren’t for her special superpower, I would never have tolerated her audacity.’

Teng Hongming could only suppress his impatience and say in a low voice, ”Let’s retreat first. Where there’s life, there’s hope. Going head-to-head with them now is definitely not a wise move.”

”How do you know something will happen to me?” Zhang Biyun shoved the man hard, her eyes filled with disdain. ”I’ll go talk to Gu Chen about this myself.”

”As long as there’s a mutual benefit, I don’t believe he’ll harm us.”

Teng Hongming was instantly infuriated, and a terrible premonition flashed through his mind.

’It seems this little bitch Zhang Biyun is about to go completely off the rails!’

Before he could even react, Zhang Biyun had already yanked her hand away and darted forward.

”Bi Yun.”

’Damn it!!’

’What is that bitch trying to do?’

Teng Hongming thought for a moment, then gritted his teeth and chased after her.

Zhang Biyun was still a significant Superpower User to their base. He couldn’t let her fall here.

No matter what, he had to get her away safely.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to answer to the Base Chief.

But Zhang Biyun paid no heed to his shouts, running straight ahead and asking anyone she saw, ”Where is Gu Chen? Where’s Gu Chen? I want to speak with Gu Chen.”

”I’m Zhang Biyun! Tell Gu Chen that I’m here.”

’Even if Gu Chen looks down on her, he’s still from the Jingji Gu Family. As long as I tell him about all of Xie Ning’s evil deeds against the Zhang family, with his upright heart, he will surely stand up for me.’

’What’s more, I’m an extremely valuable special Superpower User.’

’My significance to the base is special and extraordinary, one could say.’

’I have the capital to negotiate now, don’t I?’

’It’s not like before, when my superpower level was low. Although the Healing System is rare, there are still quite a few Healing Ability Users out there.’

’And my Healing Ability wasn’t particularly outstanding; its healing speed was very slow.’

As Zhang Biyun thought this through, the confidence welling up in her heart grew even stronger.

’Gu Chen will definitely help me. Definitely!’

’Even if only for the sake of the Jingji Zhang Family’s reputation, he shouldn’t just stand by and do nothing.’

Moreover, a strange obsession had taken root in her heart: she had to expose Xie Ning’s true face to Gu Chen.

’She’s not some innocent, pure-hearted, optimistic farm girl.’

’She’s a Devil!’

’A ruthless, merciless monster who kills on sight.’

”Miss Zhang, running in such a hurry. Where might you be going?”

A chilling voice drifted from behind and to the side.

It made Zhang Biyun, who was in mid-stride, tense up involuntarily as a cold sweat instantly broke out and trickled down.

’I don’t know why...’

’It’s like I now have a strange, stress-induced physiological reaction to this woman, Xie Ning.’

’It’s fear, but even more so, it’s panic!’

’It’s as if...’

’Xie Ning doesn’t even have to do anything. Just by standing there silently, she can make me break out in a cold sweat and feel uneasy all over.’

”Miss Zhang, run!” The moment Teng Hongming saw Xie Ning appear, he knew things were bad. He quickly lunged forward, grabbing Zhang Biyun and rolling with her on the ground.

With a soft SIZZLE.

A faint wisp of smoke immediately rose from the patch of dry grass beneath them.

Xie Ning swiftly retracted the metal grid crackling with electricity and gave the two a slight smile. ”Very agile, Vice Base Chief Teng.”

Vice Base Chief Teng did not feel good at all.

’What is this feeling, as if a wild beast has me by the throat?’

Teng Hongming shielded Zhang Biyun with one arm, his feet shuffling backward slightly.

Cold sweat poured down his forehead, but he tried to maintain a calm tone. ”Miss Xie, must you be like this? Chaoyang Base has already decided to relinquish control of Barbarian Base, and we will not compete with your base for resources.”

”Why must you be so relentlessly aggressive?”

”Oh.” Xie Ning nodded faintly, her voice just as cold and calm. ”Okay.”

’Okay?’

’What kind of reply is ’okay’?’

Teng Hongming felt at a loss for words, the cold sweat on his forehead still beading up.

For some reason, although the person before him was just a slender young woman, facing her felt like confronting a terrifying beast.

”Miss Zhang has been glaring at me this whole time. Are you looking to have a showdown right here?” Xie Ning raised an eyebrow, looking at Zhang Biyun’s wavering gaze. ”I recall Miss Zhang is a support-type Healing System, isn’t that right?”

Zhang Biyun’s face flushed crimson, feeling the humiliation of being insulted by Xie Ning.

’How dare she look down on my Healing System superpower?’

’The Healing System that countless people dream of having!’
