Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

No wonder his expression was so shocked right before he died, as he kept muttering, ”Impossible... This is impossible... How can this be? I’m dead, just like that?”

He probably found it bizarre, unexpected, and utterly unbelievable himself.

After the apocalypse, he had always kept a low profile, never daring to let anyone know his Space was so different.

From start to finish, he disguised himself as a First-Rank Space Ability User, all so he could feign weakness to ambush his prey.

’Great. He played the part of the pig, all right, but ended up getting eaten by the tiger himself...’

Xie Ning almost laughed out loud.

’The guy was just too ridiculous.’

Zhu Zihao must have been incredibly frustrated before he died. Who could’ve imagined that his life on easy mode would suddenly spiral out of his control?

It had to be said, from Zhu Zihao’s point of view, his fate was incredibly unlucky and deeply unfair.

Beichen glanced over at the young woman.

’She’s really gloating, isn’t she? Her eyes are curved into crescents from smiling.’

’Then again, anyone who stumbled into this kind of good fortune would probably be excited for at least a month.’

The space belonging to that scumbag Zhu Zihao was truly bizarre. Not only could it house living people and animals, but it could also keep food fresh indefinitely.

After the apocalypse, some people had acquired a Space Ability, but it seemed that until now, only Zhu Zihao had been able to freely enter and exit his own Space.

Unfortunately for him, he didn’t value his life enough, and went and provoked a female fiend like Xie Ning.

Still, Beichen had to thank that scumbag Zhu for being so blind. If the bastard hadn’t senselessly provoked such a formidable character, it would have been very difficult for Beichen to escape his clutches.

’Perhaps everything is guided by the unseen hand of fate?’

Xie Ning, carrying a steamer of soup dumplings, gave Beichen an expressionless wave.

She didn’t know if Beichen was hungry, nor did she care. In any case, she was starving.

”After we eat, we’re tearing down that thatched hut.”

The more she looked at that thatched hut, the so-called ”love nest,” the more it disgusted her.

Even though Beichen had repeatedly yelled that nothing happened inside, it didn’t stop her from finding the thatched hut an eyesore.

The two of them quickly finished a steamer of ten soup dumplings and took a bowl of steaming hot-and-sour soup from a glass food cabinet.

Xie Ning took out a clean disposable cup and drank a little, while the young Beichen finished the rest.

’Do boys really eat this much? Come to think of it, I work just as hard as any man.’

’So what’s the appeal for rich women who like to keep men? They eat a lot and get in the way. Their only use is being easy on the eyes.’

The young Beichen had the strangest feeling that there was something wrong with this girl. She kept throwing him these tiny, disdainful glances, and he was completely baffled.

They had said they would tear down the hut together, but in reality, a single wave of her superpower was enough to make the entire thing collapse.

Unwilling to use any more of her superpower, Xie Ning had the youth move the furniture out of the hut and to one side.

The two of them rummaged through the cabinets and drawers, taking out some usable daily supplies.

Xie Ning found a small basket to put the items in, her expression still one of clear disdain.

She tossed the unused furniture from the hut aside like trash, planning to use it for firewood later, or maybe even as projectiles in a fight.

Xie Ning decided to tidy up Zhu Zihao’s chaotically laid-out farm-style Space.

The fields and fruit trees on the left could stay, but the boxes and cabinets on the right were piled up in a complete mess. Just looking at it was exhausting.

”Why don’t you build a few metal warehouses? You could put all those weapons in an armory, and have a place to store the harvested fruits and vegetables. At least they wouldn’t be piled all over the ground taking up space.”

Xie Ning thought the kid had a point, so she struck while the iron was hot and began remodeling the farm-style Space.

After about two hours of remodeling, Zhu Zihao’s farm-style Space was completely transformed.

During the remodeling, Xie Ning discovered that Zhu Zihao’s farm-style Space had a height limit; it couldn’t exceed 16.5 meters.

Therefore, to maximize the use of the space, Xie Ning simply converted the shelving area into a four-story supermarket.

She sorted the previously chaotic mess of shelves as best she could, creating sections for daily necessities, food, and apparel on the second, third, and fourth floors.

This left the nearly 120-square-meter first floor of the supermarket area completely empty.

Even after arranging the shelves neatly, the second, third, and fourth floors weren’t crowded at all; there were even some empty areas left over.

Beichen stood before the medium-sized supermarket, gazing up at the massive structure built entirely with her Gold Ability. To say he wasn’t shocked would be an understatement.

He turned to look at the girl sitting by the supermarket entrance, taking small sips of water, and praised her sincerely, ”You’re incredible.”

Xie Ning had originally planned to finish reorganizing the farm-style Space in one go, but now she felt her energy was depleted. Even after chugging several gulps of Energy Water, she knew it would take some time for her power to fully recover.

”I’m going to go out and see if the bombing has stopped.”

Beichen grabbed her arm. Startled, Xie Ning couldn’t help but turn to look at him.

”Just wait a little longer. Those bombers looked relentless, like they wouldn’t stop until this whole area was reduced to rubble. What if you go out and a bomb lands right on your head?”

Beichen told himself he definitely wasn’t worried about the girl. He was just worried about himself!

’If she happened to get blown up, would he die along with her?’

’Or would he be trapped in this Other Dimension Space forever?’

’Although, being stuck here with food and water wouldn’t be so bad...’

Xie Ning settled down. She took a very old, worn blanket from her personal Space and, lowering her head, began to mend it.

Beichen thought his eyes were playing tricks on him.

”You...” ’This girl definitely has some problems!’

’Did she pull that ratty old blanket out of a trash can? Why is she treasuring it like that?’

’The shelves on the fourth floor of the supermarket behind her were full of brand-new, thick quilts and wool blankets. Why was she fussing over that tattered thing?’

Xie Ning completely ignored the young Beichen, her expression intensely focused on her precious blanket.

This tattered blanket had been with her for twenty years, through wind and rain, fire and water. It was covered in patches of various animal hides. To call it merely ”tattered” was an understatement.

Now that she had time, she could fix the split seams, sew the patches back on, and then wash it with a couple of buckets of clean tap water.

Xie Ning then took out a stainless-steel drying rack in the empty space in front of the supermarket and draped the tattered blanket over it to dry.

The young Beichen couldn’t help but shudder.

He wasn’t sure if he was seeing things, but he got the distinct impression that when she caressed the old blanket with one hand, gazing at it with such focus, it was like she was looking at a lover from a past life...

After washing the tattered blanket and resting for a moment, Xie Ning drank some Energy Water. Feeling that her Gold Ability’s superpower energy was almost completely restored, she finally started moving the pigsty, the cowshed, the sheep pen, and the rabbit hutch.

Zhu Zihao had done things so haphazardly. A perfectly good 500-square-meter Space had been turned into a complete mess by him.

Xie Ning then built a five-story ”zoo” and initiated a great livestock migration.
