Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Xie Ning didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Wiping her wet face, she said, ”Mom, if you could control the water temperature, we’d really be in luck.”

”Control the water temperature?” Song You’ai’s brows furrowed in deep thought, considering the idea with utmost seriousness.

’Making the superpower water boil or freeze at will...’ ’What a wild imagination my daughter has. The idea is certainly bold and strange, but I don’t think I can do it.’

”Well, I’ll practice later then,” Song You’ai said with a dry laugh.

”Mom, how many Water Balls can you create now?”

”Five at a time, about the size you just saw. That’s my absolute limit! If they’re small Water Balls, I can manage seventeen or eighteen without a problem.”

Xie Ning nodded. ”Make the Water Balls for me. I’ll store them. Don’t waste them like you just did!”

’All that water splashing on me has me soaked from head to toe. It’s basically like I took a shower...’

Looking curious, Song You’ai conjured a huge Water Ball and slowly pushed it toward Xie Ning. ”You can store this too? Won’t your little Space get flooded and turn into a vast ocean?”

Xie Ning gave her mother a small smile, then said aloud, ”Future, open the Dimensional Space.”

This was the first time Song You’ai had ever seen her daughter open this so-called Space with her own eyes.

A cube, glowing with a faint blue light and looking incredibly high-tech, shimmered with a transparent brilliance in mid-air.

”Future, take out those few bags of fish first.”

”Retrieving from Dimensional Space.”

Several bags of fish suddenly appeared on the bedside table.

”Store the Water Ball.” Xie Ning turned to her mother, who was stunned into silence, and urged with a smile, ”Mama, make another big Water Ball.”

”Oh, okay.” Song You’ai nodded quickly, and with a wave of her hand, she rapidly formed another large Water Ball.

”Future, store this water as well.”

”Storing in Dimensional Space.” The Little Spider crawled out from under Xie Ning’s sleeve, and a slow, electronic voice announced, ”Dimensional Space storage complete.”

At that moment, two-thirds of the rotating, glowing blue cube in mid-air was now covered in superpower water.

It sloshed under the blue light, its surface sparkling.

Xie Ning nodded in satisfaction. ”Store the fish.”

”Storing in Dimensional Space.”

”Two snakeheads, two crucian carps, two bass. Dimensional Space storage complete.”

Three empty bags appeared on the bedside table. Adhering to her principle of never wasting anything, Xie Ning put the three bags on the dining table.

Song You’ai finally managed to close her gaping mouth. ”Ningning, your Space is so high-tech! Then where did all that beef, mutton, pork, the freezers, and everything we stored before go?”

Xie Ning tilted her head in thought. ”Mama, I’m only telling you, so don’t spread it around. I actually have two Spaces. This is a small one, and... the other one is also a small one.”

It dawned on Xie Ning’s mom. ”Oh, so the small Space you told me about before wasn’t this one.”

”It wasn’t.”

Song You’ai understood. She pointed a finger at the electronic Little Spider playing dead on the back of Xie Ning’s hand. ”What is it?”

Xie Ning patted the Little Spider fondly. ”It’s a little pet I’m raising.”

The electronic Little Spider felt a sense of dread and trembled all over.

”Mama, give me another ball of water. I’ll store it in my other small Space.”

Xie Ning patted the Little Spider. ”Future, close the Dimensional Space.”

Song You’ai looked up and watched the rotating cube vanish into thin air with a WHOOSH, clicking her tongue in amazement.

After creating one last large Water Ball, Song You’ai let out a breath. ”PHEW. Daughter, if I’d known you needed water, I wouldn’t have wasted those two big Water Balls just now.”

”I just wanted to practice my skills,” Song You’ai pouted. ”This Water Ball looks huge, but it has no force when it hits you. It’ll definitely be useless against zombies!”

”Mhm, so if you could control its temperature and turn it into sharp ice...” Xie Ning extended her palm, revealing the sharp Metal Spikes between her fingers. ”Couldn’t you stab zombies with it then?”

”Besides, if you can make large blocks of ice, we’ll be able to stay cooler when we rest!” Xie Ning moved the Water Ball into her portable villa.

Song You’ai instantly found her life’s purpose. She nodded repeatedly as she listened to her daughter. ”Oh, daughter, you’re so thoughtful. Yes, yes, ice blocks! My new goal is to make ice blocks! This damn weather gets hotter every day. I’ll make a few big blocks of ice for your room so you can sleep more comfortably.”

No sooner said than done. Song You’ai shut the door and, full of renewed vigor, began practicing her Water Ability again.

Left outside the door by her mom, Xie Ning rubbed her nose, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, and turned to go back to her own room.

After drying herself off and changing into comfortable pajamas, Xie Ning finally began to slowly observe her portable villa.

She had to admit, the hasty glance she’d taken earlier had already left her shocked.

Now, looking at it in detail, she was shocked beyond words.

The area on the first floor to the left, connecting to the staircase, had been completely unlocked.

This included the kitchen next to the dining room and a large storage room to the side of the stairs.

Xie Ning eagerly checked the large, double-door refrigerator in the kitchen.

And wouldn’t you know it, her mom had already stuffed the refrigerator to the brim.

She remembered her mom telling her to come home for dinner, saying she had bought a lot of groceries.

A rack for fruits and vegetables in the corner was also piled high with all sorts of fresh produce.

Opening the two small freezers next to it revealed a dazzling array of frozen meat, frozen shrimp, and peeled frozen shrimp.

Xie Ning silently averted her gaze, inwardly praising her awesome mom.

’Mom really is a hoarder!’

After all, Xie Ning’s mom worked as an accountant at a supermarket. The employee benefits the supermarket handed out during holidays were usually various goods.

On top of that, the employee discount was pretty good, so whenever Xie Ning’s mom saw something cheap, she couldn’t control herself and wanted to bring it all home.

The kitchen was also filled with all sorts of household appliances, big and small. Basically, if it was on sale and cheap, Xie Ning’s mom would buy it...

Including things like a fully automatic noodle maker, which usually just sat around collecting dust.

A small ice maker, a bread machine, a microwave, an oven, a steamer—any modern appliance that caught her eye, her mom would buy, buy, buy.

Xie Ning’s mouth twitched as she looked at everything. She quickly closed the kitchen door, ending her inspection.

’If I keep looking, I might just die of happiness...’

She used to think her mom was such a spendthrift, but now she realized just how capable that shopaholic was.

She quickly wiped the gleeful smile off her face and got down to business.

She moved all the medical equipment that was piled messily in front of the living room TV cabinet—things like the wheelchair, oxygen concentrator, and blood glucose meter—along with boxes of medicine and the items she had collected from the small pharmacy, into the newly unlocked storage room on the first floor.

After that, she also moved the six large wardrobes, four storage boxes, and two large metal trunks that her family had packed into the first-floor storage room.

Finally, she moved all the various appliances and the storage batteries they had gathered from her grandmother’s house in there as well.
