Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2707: Chapter 2702: Sorry, Not Interested

It’s really an evident display of contradiction.

Perhaps something has been pent up for too long, but Kisaragi Chie hasn’t strictly adhered to the rule that diviners need to speak less.

She doesn’t even care that the person across from her is no saint, directly sharing even her deepest secrets.

And regarding her contradictory statements, Fu Qian, though understanding, couldn’t help but sigh.

Strictly speaking, in the Extraordinary Domain, Kagetsu Kana is indeed a talented player.

Unfortunately, from the perspective of an ordinary family, the Kisaragi residence is too fragile before this talent, easily torn to the brink of collapse.

Even the life that was reluctantly patched up afterward had already lost its form beneath the surface.

But human greed, anger, and ignorance lie in this—even when everything is unrecognizable, even when what she’s holding is an utterly empty shell, Kisaragi Chie still wants to be the Tomb Guardian of that once home.

”Anyway, if you want to find her, you might need to come back after dark.”

Moreover, Kisaragi Chie’s professionalism was also reflected; after a round of expression, she decisively summed up the core idea of her answer, indicating to Fu Qian that he came a bit late.

”Then forget it, I was just asking for politeness.”

However, the other’s answer made her momentarily unsure how to react.

...

”Isn’t it normal for old acquaintances to greet like this? Asking about family members’ current situations, or at least chatting about the weather.”

Fu Qian seemed to think his words were perfectly normal and was rather puzzled by Kisaragi Chie’s stiff expression.

”What I truly want to ask hasn’t started yet; you won’t think I’m going to spend money on such questions, right?”

While speaking, Fu Qian even genuinely took out a stack of cash from his pocket, neatly laying it out on the table.

This money certainly wasn’t from the bookstore’s earnings, nor was it gleaned from the luxury mansion just now.

It can only be said that Miss Wen was thoughtful, placing some funds in almost every outfit she helped prepare.

Though it might not be a huge sum, it’s more than enough to pay for divination fees.

”I see... That was my misunderstanding.”

And indeed, money is a remedy for mood; even the usually indifferent to fame and fortune Kisaragi Chie, after staring at the zero on the money for a while, visibly relaxed quite a bit and decisively admitted her mistake.

Though her sister’s attitude of tossing aside like worn shoes surely stirred displeasure, not being focused on by such a role seemed to always be a good thing.

”So what do you plan to use?”

Regarding the previous misunderstanding, Kisaragi Chie attributed it more to her improper questioning method, and pointed to the tools behind her, changing the approach.

”Cards, I guess.”

Fu Qian really did make a selection and ultimately chose the ones that Su Gao had used last time.

”I’m looking for an old friend; help check if she’s still alive.”

The next moment, without waiting for questioning, Fu Qian continued to elaborate, revealing his true purpose.

...

Kagetsu Kana is indeed a good case, but under current circumstances, it does not justify an academic leader visiting just for this.

It’s indeed no exaggeration, Fu Qian states his purpose lies elsewhere, and he actually came for the sister, wanting to have a chat with Kisaragi Chie.

”I see... Do you know if this old friend is male or female?”

The other party was indeed a good listener, not questioning Fu Qian’s words, and seemed to have empathized with that regret.

”Female.”

Fu Qian answered smoothly.

”When was the last time you met?”

Kisaragi Chie nodded slightly, her hand touching the cards, continuing to ask.

”Well... it depends on how you define it; you could assume it’s just within the past two days.”

Fu Qian recalled the sparkling bones on the lighthouse, his answer still considerate.

Indeed, Lady Nepheli.

It’s certainly not insinuating the lighthouse was a faked death or something; Fu Qian had more trust in the seeker’s heart of that lady.

However, subsequent sightings on the Sea of Ashes and correlations between the Crystal Apocalypse and the ”real” world’s corresponding state, along with the just-concluded task, Nepheli’s more transcendent stance and means have provoked some of Fu Qian’s imagination.

Even though it currently seems the characters in the task indeed resemble NPCs in his dream, having seemingly no direct relation to the actual person.

”Just recently met?”

Evidently still unable to imagine the diverse forms of meeting between Professor Fu and Lady Nepheli, Kisaragi Chie softly repeats, seemingly just curious about why he is eager to find someone.

But if it’s about encountering misfortune—

”You cut the cards.”

Without asking further, she pushed the cards over the next moment, indicating Fu Qian to operate like last time with Su Gao.

...

”What’s the matter, things don’t look optimistic?”

Fu Qian complied without objection, quickly shuffling and cutting the cards.

However, when it was Kisaragi Chie’s turn, she stared at the cards in her hand, deep in thought, arousing Fu Qian’s curiosity.

”Can’t say simply, the situation is somewhat complex...”

Kisaragi Chie didn’t rush to conclude, her gaze still on the cards, even drawing two more.

”Got it, take your time.”

Fu Qian didn’t mind; on the contrary, he seemed rather satisfied, gesturing to indicate contemplation was appreciated.

Choosing to come here for divination wasn’t because this second-class Divination Master’s technique was particularly good.

The most core reason is broadly, this tiny shop even counts as the place of meeting between himself and Lady Nepheli once.

At that time, the latter was still a technical advisor for the King of Ye Island ascending the First Phase.

And once the matter was accomplished, a celebratory Yetai Tokiyuki was happy for a short while, then was concocted into the Great Nourishing Pill together with the Red Moon.

Then, before this news spread, Fu Qian met Lady Nepheli here who was keen to understand what transpired and engaged in a piece of efficient technical exchange.

In summary, for the latter, this place holds relative significance.

If there still exists a possibility, and Lady Nepheli’s will hasn’t entirely dissipated, but transformed into another form of existence.

Then sitting here and stating intentions is undoubtedly one of the attempts that could most likely establish contact.

Of course, nothing is done with compulsion; even without any gains, Fu Qian wouldn’t mind taking this trip, seeing what kind of conclusion this second-class Divination Master could discern, and paying for the service.

...

”Your fate is indeed quite special...”

As proven, after a somewhat lengthy wait, Kisaragi Chie breaking the silence with her remarks did truly exhibit classic second-class traits.

With three cards in hand opened and closed again, her commentary was barren, akin to a fortune-teller batting around without much insight.

”How is it special?”

Fu Qian was quite supportive, immediately engaging in conversation.
