Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2706: Chapter 2701: Things Ladies Like to Do

The mask remains.

Indeed, it’s still that sense of déjà vu, with a semblance of prosperity tinged with melancholy.

Just like over at the Academy, as long as you don’t enter through the front gate, you won’t return to the city, and can roam freely without obstruction.

And along the way outside, Fu Qian easily found many familiar sights from the past.

It wasn’t just unaffected—time itself seemed barely to have passed.

For instance, the small shop on the street still displayed those abstract-featured white masks.

Fu Qian bought one and wore it casually on his face, completely unnoticed while walking through the street.

In high spirits, he then gathered a bunch of random items to wear and continued his journey to Kisaragi Chie’s Fortune Teller’s Cottage.

The only pity was that he couldn’t pretend to be Su Gao and ask Kisaragi Chie for a discount or something like that this time.

...

”Welcome.”

As it turns out, indeed absorbing the lesson from last time—slacking off would result in misfortune—the Fortune Teller’s Cottage was not only in operation but had opened early.

Fu Qian didn’t hold back, directly pushed open the door to the small shop, just a few square meters, and his gaze landed on the wooden shelf at the back with cards and copper coins.

After maintaining this posture for five seconds, second-class Divination Master Kisaragi Chie finally came out from the inner room, greeting him without much enthusiasm.

After many days, she hadn’t changed much, just like the streets outside.

Still dressed simply, still holding a standard business stance, still observing and interpreting expressions first thing.

In other words, she possibly still maintained the level of a second-class Divination Master without any progress.

This time, her perception faced an obstacle as she looked at Fu Qian’s face; she visibly entered into contemplation over the mask.

”So, what would you like to ask?”

Even so, Kisaragi Chie didn’t ask Fu Qian to take off the mask, instead gestured for him to sit down and continued with the classic line.

”Is your sister not around?”

Fu Qian didn’t act mysterious; he directly lifted off the mask, even asking the same question as when they first met.

Though he didn’t use this face then.

...

”It really is you.”

She could only be called a genuine swindler; even before speaking, Kisaragi Chie had faintly guessed who was beneath the mask, speaking with little surprise.

Even the notorious Mr. Darcy’s interest in his sister seemed entirely unsurprising to her.

”She does usually live here, but she went out earlier.”

With a meaningful expression, Kisaragi Chie even continued by answering Fu Qian’s question.

”Did she go to the Night Watchman’s place?”

Without doubting her words, Fu Qian rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

The relationship between the sisters was undeniably special.

Regardless of the emotions involved, considering the experiences they’ve shared, continuing to live together doesn’t seem strange.

Considering Kagetsu Kana’s transformation after sacrificing her hand, now firmly part of the Supernatural Realm, with very particular abilities, needing to report to the Night Watchman occasionally makes sense.

”Yes, she now needs to go there every day... to assist with some matters.”

This confirmed Fu Qian’s suspicions, though Kisaragi Chie hesitated slightly when it came to specifics, clearly holding something back.

”She indeed appears somewhat unusual; the Night Watchman’s emphasis on her is justified.”

Fu Qian didn’t mind, expressing complete understanding of the underlying reasons.

”Are you sure you want to find her under current circumstances? Even for you, this is quite a dangerous thing.”

The theory of mutual force action stood, and faced with this considerate posture, Kisaragi Chie finally couldn’t help but express misunderstanding of Fu Qian’s reckless behavior.

...

It was theoretically quite dangerous.

Fu Qian, skilled in empathy as always, certainly didn’t believe the Diviner was exaggerating.

The gap between people wasn’t initially deep, but the Night Watchman had dug it deeper.

No matter their past behavior or character, Kagetsu Kana’s current core trait is belonging to the circle of Transcendents.

Previously, Darcy Crawford’s ability to repeatedly dance on the Night Watchman’s red line without punishment relied on the victims being his kin.

But now, in a common saying, the two sides are no longer of the same world.

Ordinary people can’t harm Transcendents; the Night Watchman keeps watch on that.

If Darcy Crawford still has interest in Kagetsu Kana, the ever-eager Lady Suzune knowing this would likely be overjoyed.

”You genuinely seem concerned for my safety? Theoretically, we should count as enemies, right? After all, your father’s death was largely tied to me.”

Yet Fu Qian didn’t rush to concur with Kisaragi Chie; rather, he curiously explored her motive.

”... That’s right, but I’ve also said that for him, it was a relief.”

Although now technically linked to the Transcendents, the Diviner still felt no boundless warmth from this, deeply breathed in, then spoke with her head down.

”Otherwise, seeing Kana as she is now, I can’t imagine what reaction he’d have.”

...

Not only lacking self-awareness of ascending together, evidently to Kisaragi Chie, her sister’s ”ascendance” was hardly a blessing.

”Has your sister turned more into an empty shell of a wax figure lately?”

The inclination in her words was stark, leaving Fu Qian deeply contemplative.

He vividly recalled Kisaragi Chie’s previous comments on her sister.

”That’s right, though she’s also become more animated... others might see her improvement.

”She’s no longer as capricious as before; she stands there listening when I speak... even emotionally, she’s not as flippant as before.”

And it was evident he wasn’t the only one recalled by memories; Kisaragi Chie seemed momentarily submerged in past recollections.

”Sounds good.”

Fu Qian nodded; if not familiar with her style, it was easy to misinterpret as boasting about her child.

”Also looks good... though I’m painfully aware all traces of my sister beneath that shell are gone.”

Indeed Kisaragi Chie’s view remained pessimistic, rendering her tone as unable to shed tears.

”But you still live together.”

Fu Qian recalled the words he just heard.

”Yes, and we even sleep on the same bed at night; she prefers me holding her from behind...”

Kisaragi Chie continued to elaborate on the details.

”Why?”

Fu Qian expressed curiosity on this.

”Because she’s my sister.”
