Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1623: Chapter 1618: Kaldora in the Jar

So did I just ask the Custodian for help to fill out my application?

This action seems a bit too high-handed.

It’s surprising that Professor Lisa is directly in charge of the demigod flesh of Kaldora; I hadn’t really paid attention to this situation before.

Of course, no matter what, this is definitely not a bad thing; it seems like I might not even need to fill out the application form.

Regarding the main matters for this return to the Academy, Fu Qian has never forgotten.

After a brief rest, now that the trivial matters are mostly handled, it’s time to select an auspicious day to begin the examination.

And given the smooth progress, although absolutely confident that there’s no fear of shedding feathers, Fu Qian gladly accepted the dress code, draping the cloth over his shoulders.

”This way.”

This move also seemed to somewhat ease Professor Lisa, who continued to lead the way ahead.

”So you don’t need to be on duty here?”

As it turned out, Professor Lisa wasn’t lying; the lower level was indeed very clean.

Even in the passageway, it could still be called spotless, almost at the level of needing a dust-proof suit.

Of course, this was limited to this area.

Fu Qian was very sure that there were more than just one passage like this nearby, and they were not interconnected.

For example, this corridor only led to one room at its end.

”It’s not necessary; that would only have negative effects.”

Upon reaching the lower level, Lisa’s demeanor suddenly turned serious.

She walked lightly ahead, quickly explaining.

”People also count as contaminants?”

Fu Qian followed suit, guessing the reason while maintaining the same posture.

”To be precise, Transcendents; ordinary humans wouldn’t provoke her reaction.”

Partially confirming Fu Qian’s statement, the conversation brought them to the door.

At first glance, Fu Qian felt a sense of déjà vu.

It wasn’t anything like an ancient miracle with prohibitions etched on it.

Silver-gray metal, smooth and polished, this door was suddenly reminiscent of the modern industrial style similar to the workshop from a previous mission they had just completed.

Despite being thicker in comparison, it was considered more ordinary, with no sense of transcendent quality detected.

Reasonable.

Fu Qian understood this; Professor Lisa had mentioned that any form of transcendence could trigger adverse reactions, so using the simplest, most direct means of storage was actually safer under these circumstances.

”Do I need to wait outside?”

Seeing Lisa not in a hurry to open the door but rather carefully placing the previously acquired spoils on a metal platform outside the door, Fu Qian consciously exhibited strong empathy to avoid troubling this carefree guard.

”No need, I’m just being cautious.”

However, Professor Lisa didn’t impose unnecessary demands. She was already opening the door while speaking to prove it wasn’t just courtesy.

”But don’t get your hopes up; there won’t be much to see inside.”

As she further reminded him, the heavy door slowly opened, revealing the scene inside.

...

Professor Lisa truly inherited the honesty of the Heaven’s Commencement Institute.

Although the lighting wasn’t particularly bright in comparison, the space beyond the door was small and could be taken in at a glance.

Foremost was a large metal container, suspended and occupying almost half the space.

Despite its massive size, it was precisely fitted, leaving only a top lid that appeared exaggeratedly thick.

It’s easy to think that inside was the demigod Kaldora, whom the Institute was unwilling to disturb.

It was hard to imagine what kind of devouring mutation this entity had undergone before finally being stored here.

Despite the secure condition, Fu Qian easily identified certain states within the container.

In a sense, it was indeed still considered alive, its divinity beyond question.

Though in a shapeless, primordial assembly of flesh and blood.

At this moment, neither of them had disturbed her.

Aside from the large container, the remaining part of the room was filled with workbenches made of the same material.

While observing, the slightly silent Professor Lisa had already walked over to open one, retrieving an item.

Fu Qian saw clearly that it was a metal cylinder with no markings or engravings on its surface; the weight was evident by the sound, and the structure was quite solid.

Lisa fiddled with the mechanism, and the side of the cylinder opened, revealing its narrow interior.

This opening method easily reminded Fu Qian of Night Watchman Xiemeng and the container used to test Academy Instructors’ ears earlier.

Of course, compared to the container holding ears, this one was a lot simpler, the sort used for industrial mass production.

Professor Lisa still didn’t speak, approached the container with increasingly light steps, and rotated a slender metal tube leading into the container.

At the same time, she brought the cylinder closer and even casually made a small cut on her skin, letting a drop of blood drip inside.

Like bait for a wild beast.

But she didn’t have to wait long.

After a few breaths, a dark red, slender, worm-like tendril of flesh slowly emerged, swaying like it was searching for food, its target undoubtedly the blood inside the cylinder.

And just as the elongated tip was about to touch the target, Lisa adjusted the metal tube again.

With a twist, the end of the flesh worm seemed to be cut off, causing it to plunge into the cylinder, locked inside with a crisp sound.

The entire process was silky smooth; Fu Qian couldn’t help but admire it.

”Generally speaking, as long as it’s not opened, it stays fairly docile inside.”

However, the operator’s expression turned more sullen, gesturing to exit before handing the cylinder to Fu Qian.

”Regarding safety, I think you can handle it, so there’s no need for me to say more.”

”The only thing to be cautious about is not letting it come into contact with your extraordinary items, as it might cause damage.”

”Understood.”

Fu Qian listened attentively and nodded in agreement.

”When does your examination start?”

Though the other party was wearing a ”face helmet,” Professor Lisa clearly sensed this good attitude, her mood seemingly improving a bit.

”Later.”

Fu Qian answered truthfully.

”... You won’t wait for those two sisters to thank you?”

Leading him swiftly away, Lisa couldn’t help but pause for a moment.

”Worldly relationships shouldn’t be forced.”

Professor Fu’s response was filled with philosophical acceptance, clearly unperturbed by such mundane affairs, even pointing to the pocket in Lisa’s hand while speaking.

”I hope that by the time I return next, you will have achieved something.”

”Thank you... I will do my best.”

Finally sighing deeply, Professor Lisa appeared accustomed to the elusive nature of the Heaven’s Commencement Institute’s demigods and felt some pressure from the temporary acting leader’s encouragement.
