Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 149: Chapter 148 Disordered (19)_1

It was not just the Priest who was petrified; the Baroness was too, for a moment.

She had thought this guy wouldn’t want to accidentally kill her, but it turned out he had long since planned to take her down with him!

He had even turned this to his advantage by setting a trap, successfully causing the Priest to lower his guard and brazenly hide behind her, his hostage.

Then he launched an indiscriminate attack.

It was simply…

Though she had just resolved to face death, the Baroness couldn’t help but feel off about it.

...
“What’s wrong? You’re not regretting it, are you?”

Fu Qian looked at her.

“Just now you told me not to care about you and just strike, you were quite upset when I didn’t make a move.”

…

The Baroness was speechless, and the room fell into a brief silence.

Ha ha ha!

Ultimately, it was the Priest who broke the silence, beginning to speak with a bitter laugh.

“Clever tactic! I misjudged… I didn’t expect you to be so insane!”

You’re lying on the ground, yet you still comment like this without feeling ashamed?

Fu Qian looked down on the Priest with disdain.

The Priest was in a worse state than the Baroness, his entire right half had been obliterated in the recent explosion.

Speaking of which, my breath seems to have an especially good effect on the Pus of Man.

Whether it was him or Fatty from the old town, they both entered an unstable state upon contact and then exploded.

“Speaking of which, I have a question.”

Fu Qian suddenly seemed to recall something, pointing to the ground.

“You said before that there were others in the town with the same thing, how did you know that?”

“Could it be that you all have some kind of club?”

Ha… cough, cough!

Upon hearing Fu Qian’s question, the Priest laughed only halfway before starting to cough violently, seeming like he could die at any moment.

“How could that be, we… definitely don’t know each other… but I… I just know…”

His voice was also fading away, forcing Fu Qian to lean closer to him.

“There’s a subtle connection; the mutations in our bodies allow us to sense our own kind… though we all keep it unspoken…”

“And I… have detected it in too many people—”

The next moment, a gust of wind arose.

The dying Priest displayed terrifying speed, leaping up with his wounded body, curling his still-intact left hand into a claw, and reaching for Fu Qian’s throat.

This sudden sneak attack was truly unexpected.

Who could have thought the Priest, in such a state, still had the strength to fight? The Baroness, who had been listening intently, let out a scream upon witnessing the scene.

Just as the Priest’s desperate strike was about to hit, a fist rapidly enlarged in his field of vision.

Amidst the dull sound of flesh being struck, the Priest’s leaping body was sent flying back, smashing heavily onto the ground.

“How… could you…”

Spitting out a mouthful of blood, the Priest looked incredulously at Fu Qian, his face nearly crushed by that punch.

“What were you thinking?”

Fu Qian looked at him with disdain.

“Bro, I’ve been setting up people in corners long before you were liquid, and you copied my style of starting a sentence before attacking. Did you pay the royalties or what?”

“You knew… Then why didn’t you just kill me earlier?”

“If I had simply killed you, how would you have answered my questions?”

Fu Qian revealed a gentle smile.

“I believe the things you told me just now to gain my trust were fairly credible.”

…

The Priest spat out another mouthful of blood, his eyes losing their luster amidst a resigned sigh.

This…

Witnessing the scene, the Baroness felt an inexplicable chill rise in her heart as she watched Fu Qian turn to face her.

Knowing full well that the Priest was luring her to come closer with the intention of attacking, she had deliberately raised a question for him to answer. When he was full of hope for a successful sneak attack, he discovered that he had already been calculated into the equation, and was directly slapped to death.

In some sense, his demeanor was the epitome of evil, no wonder the Priest died with his eyes wide open.

“How do you feel?”

Fu Qian walked beside the Baroness, looking down at her from above.

A good half of her body was as withered as tree branches, with only her neck and above still appearing normal.

“Not too good… My body is aging rapidly, strength disappearing. I’m using all my power just to barely maintain consciousness.”

The Baroness instinctively avoided Fu Qian’s gaze and shook her head in response.

“But I wouldn’t say I’m afraid of dying; it’s just that if what he said is true…”

“It’s truly terrifying… it leaves no room for hope…”

“What about you?”

Me?

As the Baroness posed the question, Fu Qian also nodded in agreement.

“I find it terrifying as well.”

How many targets do I need to take out before this task is completed!

“You really don’t look it,” said the Baroness, eyeing Fu Qian, and ultimately shook her head with resignation.

“Actually, I owe you an apology. Sending you back to the prison was a particularly risky plan; to be honest, I didn’t really expect you to come back.”

I knew that already; it was a mutual use, right? Did you really think you could force me if I didn’t want to go?

Fu Qian thought to himself.

“It’s alright, you’re about to die now, aren’t you.”

…

The Baroness looked at Fu Qian.

“Your ‘breath’ seems to be quite effective at restraining this contamination. I know it’s a lot to ask, but could you please try to save this place?”

“You want me to wipe out all the infected? Setting aside whether it’s even possible, if what the Priest said is true, then the number of people might be quite alarming.”

“…If it’s necessary, then there’s no helping it.”

“Understood.”

Fu Qian nodded and suddenly bent down.

The Baroness was immediately startled, almost instinctively trying to dodge.

However, having exerted some effort, she realized she had become powerless and gave up resistance in resignation.

The next moment, Fu Qian’s hand was on her broken leg, which had decayed to the point of revealing ghastly white bones.

Crack!

In the Baroness’s terrified gaze, Fu Qian directly tore off the broken leg from the knee.

“What are you doing—” she began, but before she could finish, the Baroness was shocked to see something being pulled out from the severed leg.

A Black Snake, thin as a pinky finger, struggled desperately in Fu Qian’s grasp.

“You really are an actor, aren’t you? On the surface, you’re resigned to despair, but in reality, you still had a fallback plan.”

In his hands, Fu Qian held the snake, glancing at the Priest’s corpse.

This thing had undoubtedly taken the chance to hide inside the Baroness. Though it was unclear if the Priest could be revived through it, it was obviously a hidden threat.

“This…”

Even though she couldn’t feel her body anymore, the Baroness still felt sickened.

“I’ll call someone to help you; you can spend your last days here in peace. I still have some business to attend to.”

At that moment, the voice of Fu Qian came from beside her ear. Looking up, she saw he was already out the door.

Is the slaughter about to begin?

The Baroness wanted to say something but ultimately didn’t. Closing her eyes, she slowly shook her head.

…

In the darkness, Fu Qian spread open his right hand, revealing a wound in the palm.

Inside the wound, a black fluid was coiling within the flesh.

Indeed, he hadn’t destroyed that thing but had intentionally made a cut, letting it infect him.

Feeling it invade his body, Fu Qian slapped the person outside awake and strode into the black night.
