Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 147: Chapter 146 Disorder (17)_1

Because of their preconceived notions, the Baroness and her team members almost immediately attributed the Nun’s death to the Discolored Ones without considering the possibility of a Sequence member being responsible.

If the Nun was silenced for discovering the Discoloration Curse, then it was equally possible she was eliminated for uncovering the contamination of the Pus of Man.

The brooch found in the Nun’s mouth was indeed that of a man’s, and most likely belonged to someone close to her, although her lover met the same fate, there wasn’t a rule stating she could only have one lover.

Given the current situation, as one of the most senior members within the Sequence, the Priest’s popularity was definitely not low.

However, if it really was the Priest who had done it, then my own situation was a bit dangerous.

The Baroness wasn’t foolish; her mind was merely jumbled by the consecutive shocks today, and it was only a matter of time before she realized this.

...
The Priest must have thought of this and was sure to take action.

In such a situation, the most logical choice was to eliminate anyone who knew—namely, the Baroness and me.

And the sooner the better, to prevent the matter of the Pus of Man from spreading too widely.

Like right now.

The next moment, Fu Qian looked up at the sky, feeling the chaotic sensation assault him once again.

Since digesting the Dragon Blood, although his abilities had been upgraded, the negative effects had also intensified, and the impact now was far greater than before.

Fu Qian put forth a great deal of effort and barely managed to adapt.

Whew!

Several minutes later, Fu Qian took a deep breath and confirmed no one had come looking for him.

This was when the importance of secrecy was truly appreciated.

Owing to my strong adaptation to the adverse effects, I had never exposed the specific timing of my reactions in public.

Otherwise, if someone really wanted to harm me, they would certainly choose this opportune moment.

But as for him… well, that was another story.

Fu Qian thought for a moment, then got up and left.

Although it was just speculation, it was better to verify it.

If something had indeed happened to the Baroness, then I was definitely the next target.

The Baroness’s residence was easy to find, not far from here, and was a substantial estate that stood out in the small town.

It was already the middle of the night, but the estate was still brightly lit.

Understandable, since the mistress had just returned, the help would undoubtedly be bustling about.

Fu Qian didn’t even consider going through the main entrance but instead leapt with ease, scaling the wall to enter.

Having knocked out a few people along the way, Fu Qian successfully infiltrated the interior of the estate.

It didn’t take long before he noticed something amiss in the silence.

Following the noises, he made his way to a room with its door ajar, beside it lay a senseless servant.

I hadn’t overthought it after all; there really was a situation!

Standing outside, the noise inside wasn’t too loud, but I could distinctly feel the fluctuations of power from within.

The next moment, Fu Qian knocked on the door and, without waiting for a response, pushed it open and entered.

The scene inside was intense.

Amidst the chaos on the floor, a serpent-like black fluid lay coiled in front of him, its huge, glossy body taking up nearly half the room.

Enveloped by the writhing snake body, the Baroness, radiating light all over, was trapped in the center, her expression fierce as she struggled to hold on, on the verge of succumbing.

At the end of the Black Snake’s tail was the Priest, who had lost half his body.

Gone were his usual kind and gentle expression; startled by Fu Qian’s knock, he now glared over with a ferocious face.

“I hope I’m not interrupting?”

With that greeting, Fu Qian strolled in leisurely, picked a clean spot on the floor to stand, and took an interested look at the Black Giant Serpent.

This creature was identical to the one attached to the Armor brother from the old city.

“I’ll just look around, you continue.”

The priest certainly couldn’t believe Fu Qian’s words. He tightened his stranglehold on the Baroness while vigilantly watching Fu Qian’s every move.

The Black Snake’s body swelled and split off a black serpent as thick as an arm, aiming it from afar at this side.

When the Baroness caught sight of Fu Qian, a flash of surprise clearly crossed her eyes; her shield even brightened slightly. However, facing the Black Snake’s intensified stranglehold, it quickly dimmed and lost its light.

At first, Fu Qian was curious why she didn’t speak. After a glance, he realized not only was the Baroness completely surrounded, but her face even bore an unusual flush.

Indeed, she was in the throes of a negative effect—The priest’s timing was impeccable!

“Kill… him… he’s… tainted…”

It took the Baroness a great deal of effort to squeeze out a few words.

As if I need you to tell me that; I can see it with my own eyes.

But considering her current condition, Fu Qian didn’t expect too much from her.

“So, the nun’s lover met his end like this?”

Ignoring the snake’s head aimed at him, Fu Qian pointed at the trapped Baroness.

“Pretty much.”

Clearly not expecting Fu Qian’s question, the priest was momentarily taken aback before responding with a cold laugh.

“So, it was after the nun discovered this thing on you that the two of them met with deadly misfortune?”

“…It’s her own curiosity that’s to blame.”

“As I suspected. As a member of the Oversight Committee, I am obliged to administer justice.”

Fu Qian nodded, then took a deep breath.

The next moment, an illusory grey-white dragon’s head appeared in midair, releasing a transparent and invisible ripple from its mouth.

However, the priest had been watching Fu Qian closely and reacted almost the instant the dragon’s head appeared. The Black Snake moved with astounding agility, quickly slithering sideways to evade, rendering Fu Qian’s breath attack fruitless as it blasted into the side of the room.

Though he had missed his target, the attack did buy the Baroness an opportunity. With the sudden decrease in pressure, she flickered through the air and finally leapt out of the encirclement.

But before she could land, her right leg tightened, ensnared by a thin snake.

The priest had laid an ambush on the side early on, taking advantage of her momentary laxity to capture her.

Crack!

Before the Baroness could react, one leg was snapped into three pieces, and she collapsed to the ground amidst a scream of agony.

“An interesting ability, does it stem from the blood within the Holy Relic?”

The priest glanced at the Baroness only briefly before turning his attention to the wall hit by the dragon’s breath.

It was rapidly deteriorating.

“No need to be shocked. Did you really think you could steal from the church and I wouldn’t find out?”

“You monster! I can’t believe I never suspected it was you!” the Baroness yelled from the side.

With her broken leg tightly bound, she was completely immobilized.

However, the benefit was that the pain from her broken leg diluted the negative effect, allowing her to speak freely.

“Monster?”

The priest snorted.

“You understand nothing!”

“Do you have any idea what the outcome would be if your plan had actually been carried out?”

“What do you mean?”

“What if I told you there’s more than one monster like me in the town?”
