Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 915, Testing His Ancient God Power

Andrei sneered mockingly. “People from my Family think the same way. Cooperating with an Ancient God… how ridiculous. Dragon Country has an old saying, something like ‘negotiating with a tiger for its hide’. That’s probably what it means.”

“The Orel Family’s thinking is actually understandable. They simply feel that the Ancient Gods are invincible. Rather than trying to fight such a powerful enemy in a battle they’ll almost certainly lose, they might as well take their side and work for the Ancient God. But what they’re thinking is simply betting that the Ancient God will honour its agreement and let them survive. Maybe, they could become Immortal and eternally serve as its lackeys. Then, if they lose this bet, then the end would be the same. After all, fighting the Ancient God head-on would mostly end the same way. Why bother putting up a struggle?”

Jin Zhan shook his head repeatedly upon hearing this. “Unfortunately, the Orel Family people can’t understand that while fighting the Ancient God might have less than a ten percent chance of victory, if they truly choose to cooperate with them, their chance of survival probably won’t even reach ten percent.”

“Negotiating terms with an Ancient God is truly laughable. Moreover, having the Ancient God grant them eternal lifespans? Each Ancient God’s goal is merely to win in the Ancient Gods Struggle For Supremacy and usher in an era of their own. Who would expend power to make a group of insignificant people Immortal? As long as the Ancient God is not a fool, it will understand that casually killing them is the most appropriate way to handle things. After all, an endless number of these cannon fodders exist in every era. After killing them, if so wished, can’t they just find more? Why bother keeping this one group alive?”

Lu Fan smiled and said. “Everyone probably knows this already, but some just want to hope. In the end, it’s all just self-deception.”

Lu Fan’s words hit the nail on the head.

Andrei waved his hand. “Now isn’t the time to discuss this.”

“In any case, our Feather Country currently doesn’t have unified opinions like your country. On how to handle the Ancient God matter, there have been debates, even struggles for a long time. The conflict between me and Molotov earlier was not the key in the struggle between the two factions, but it could become the catalyst. My Father being attacked is proof. I’m afraid our Kodiak Family will face continuous troubles in the coming period.”

Lu Fan thought for a moment and said. “You don’t need to worry about that. Like I said, Jin and I are both here and can help you resolve some of your troubles.”

Jin Zhan’s expression turned serious as he looked at Lu Fan. “Lu Fan, though I want to help them, I actually have the same worries as Andrei. You and I have special identities. If we help the Kodiak Family, it might cause them even more trouble…”

Lu Fan interrupted Jin Zhan’s words, smiling. “Brother Jin, let me put it this way. You’re Dragon Country’s Supreme Commander, I’m Dragon Country’s Spark, so it is natural for us to have these concerns. But stripping away these identities, if neither you nor I were anyone, just two Players exploring everywhere without a nationality, would you prefer Feather Country to pledge allegiance to an Ancient God and its lackey, or would you prefer Feather Country to cooperate with Dragon Country?”

Jin Zhan answered without hesitation. “That’s obvious? Of course I’d prefer Feather Country to cooperate with Dragon Country.”

“There you go!” Lu Fan spread his hands. “You feel we can’t help purely because we’re limited by our identities. But deep down, you know what should be done. I think that as Dragon Country’s Supreme Commander, in public settings, every word and action should indeed be carefully considered. You can’t give others ammunition against you. But sometimes, following your heart is fine. After all, you’re also Human and have private interests. You can reserve your impartial side for outsiders, but in private when there are no outsiders, you don’t need to hide your private interests. After all, no matter what, you’re still Human.”

Jin Zhan still did not quite grasp Lu Fan’s meaning.

Lu Fan smiled and lowered his voice. “In my opinion, if something happened to the Orel Family, no one would know it was you and I who did it. Since no one would know, and it could help Feather Country resolve some potential hidden dangers, why not do it? It’s like some people who are born rotten, but no one has evidence of their wrongdoing.”

“As a judge, in court you must declare them innocent, but that doesn’t prevent you from taking off your judicial robes and quietly stabbing them twice in private. In short, justice and rules can’t necessarily restrain the wicked, but our fists can certainly ensure they receive the ‘punishment’ they deserve.”

Jin Zhan narrowed his eyes, carefully contemplating Lu Fan’s words.

After a long while, his eyes suddenly opened, clearly much more enlightened. “You’re right. In my position, doing things comes with many constraints, making many matters contrary to what I wish. If I truly cast off the shackles of my identity, I could do as many things as I wish to.

“Fine. I’ll go along with this. We’ve already crossed the national borders while hiding our identities. Pulling off one more big job won’t be a problem.” Pausing, Jin Zhan smiled, “I also haven’t properly used my Ancient God Power yet. I really want to try it at full power. This time, I can use it against these cowards who wish to be the lackeys of those Ancient Gods.”

Lu Fan also smiled. “Of course. After helping the Kodiak Family eliminate some members of the opposing faction, Feather Country’s opinions should quickly unify. At that time, Feather Country can continue helping us find more Ancient Gods, tipping the scales of victory towards Humanity even if it is only a little bit.”

Finishing, Lu Fan looked at Andrei. “So, are you fine with this?”

“We’ll do the killing to help your Feather Country quickly unify your opinion. Your Kodiak Family doesn’t need to do anything. Just tell us the locations of the Orel Family and other Families of this faction.”

Andrei was not the type to overthink things anyway.

He already disliked the Orel Family. Now that Lu Fan and Jin Zhan had clearly explained the stakes, how could he possibly refuse something that would both allow revenge and help Feather Country?
