Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 64: “Unforgotten’s” True Purpose and Identity!

“Is the conclusion wrong, and are there key omissions?”

Hearing the God of Change give his own evaluation of “85 points,” Lin Yu wasn’t particularly happy but instead slightly furrowed his brows.

In other words…

This ‘Fraudster’ profession wasn’t the result of divine intervention?

And what exactly was omitted?

Lin Yu grew curious.

“What did I miss? And what is the real answer?”

Lin Yu looked toward the gray Crow-Man.

The latter smiled and shook his head.

“That is something you will have to explore on your own in the future…”
“Don’t be too greedy, Lin Yu. Being able to understand the roles of ‘Potential’ and ‘Gods’ in this game by the second dungeon already puts you far ahead of the others.”

“If this continues, they’ll have something to complain about.”

The Crow-Man said this and, before Lin Yu could continue questioning, changed the subject.

“All right, Lin Yu—you answered the first ‘reward-punishment question’ correctly, so naturally, there will be a reward.”

“Now, you can ask me about one ‘hidden secret of someone.’ It can be any secret of anyone.”

Hearing this reward, Lin Yu couldn’t help but scoff.

“So you were watching my entire first dungeon, huh…”

This was exactly the lie he had told when playing the ‘Detective’ class in his first dungeon.

The real ‘Detective’ ability wasn’t actually this.

Lin Yu muttered to himself and then looked at the Crow-Man.

“Can I choose you?”

“Sorry, I’m not ‘someone.’ I am a god.”

The God of Change refused Lin Yu.

Lin Yu wasn’t surprised by this answer: “Fine, then let me think…”

If it were the old Lin Yu, this question wouldn’t be easy to answer.

After all, his social circle was simple, and he had little curiosity to pry into his friends or classmates’ secrets.

But now, Lin Yu really had two people whose secrets he wanted to investigate.

One was the recently encountered “Unforgotten.”

The other…

Naturally, was the “junior girl” who killed Lin Yu, the mysterious “murderer.”

Lin Yu knew that the latter likely came from the Psychological Society and had killed him after noticing his “Potential.”

However, Lin Yu knew very little about her information or what kind of person she really was.

As for “Unforgotten”…

Lin Yu had spent an entire dungeon with her and had begun to grasp some of the quirky, nervous traits of this mischievous girl.

Her profession was ‘Thief,’ probably stemming from her prank-loving personality and “kleptomania.”

Her true identity was likely a wealthy heiress from Jiangcheng—her windbreaker and sneakers were all expensive brand-name goods, and the black windbreaker was even made of cut-resistant fabric.

She was probably still in high school, with decent grades, and likely maintained a well-behaved image in front of her parents—when Unforgotten held a utility knife, she instinctively gripped it like a pen, and the calluses on her fingers had not faded.

With this information, even without asking Shen Bingmiao, Lin Yu felt he could find some clues about Unforgotten’s identity after leaving.

However…

Lin Yu still leaned toward using this question on “Unforgotten.”

Because even though the real identity of that “junior girl” was unknown, at least Lin Yu basically understood the organization she belonged to as a “player” and her purpose for killing him.

She looked strong and wasn’t in a hurry for revenge.

But…

What purpose did “Unforgotten” have for approaching him, and which organization did she belong to? Lin Yu was completely in the dark.

That’s right, although he had finally used the ‘Lie Detector,’ Lin Yu still did not believe the words “Unforgotten” said.

This ‘Thief’ was just as skilled at deceiving with the truth.

Her number of cleared dungeons might be correct, but she definitely wasn’t approaching him without purpose or just for fun.

From the very beginning, when Lin Yu saw the note left on the bicycle and shared bike stolen by “Unforgotten,” he clearly realized one thing…

This was an “evaluation.”

Although “Unforgotten” really loved pranks, everything she did to him…

That strong sense of “evaluation” meant to test his reactions was overwhelming!

Especially since this girl left almost immediately after the ‘Ninja.’

As a veteran player, how could she not recognize the ‘Ninja’s’ smoke bomb?

So, even if Lin Yu wasn’t sure whether this was a “test” and “evaluation,” or if someone was secretly watching him…

Out of caution, he acted irritable, quick-tempered, and completely fooled at that time.

And later, Lin Yu also solidified his persona by demonstrating the abilities of a ‘Soldier.’

And it proved…

Lin Yu’s guess was correct.

After meeting “Unforgotten” in this dungeon, she indeed already knew about his ‘Soldier’ profession beforehand.

This meant… she had definitely been secretly observing him!

Therefore, Lin Yu could never believe it was a coincidence that she appeared in this dungeon!

The forum mentioned many kinds of items that allowed people to “team up” in the same dungeon.

So an item that allowed someone to “join a specific player’s dungeon” wasn’t impossible.

Even though “Unforgotten” mentioned “Heavenly Artisan” briefly at the end, Lin Yu still believed…

“Unforgotten’s” target was definitely himself.

The reason was simple: just from the accent, “Heavenly Artisan” was from the northwest region.

“Unforgotten” probably just took his things casually.

In fact, because of “Unforgotten’s” intentional or unintentional misdirection, Lin Yu was even more certain she likely came for him.

So, Lin Yu further displayed his “persona” to “Unforgotten” in this dungeon.

From the previously “irritable” persona, he extended traits of being “good at puzzles, vengeful, and extremely arrogant.”

But no matter how much he disguised and concealed himself, once he realized that besides the Psychological Society, there might be other organizations targeting him, Lin Yu’s anxiety only deepened.

After all, what “Unforgotten” said about not coming from the Psychological Society was verified truth by the lie detector.

After careful consideration, Lin Yu decided to ask about “Unforgotten.”

He couldn’t keep up this “enemy-hidden, I-know” act forever.

So, Lin Yu looked at the gray Crow-Man and said,

“I want to ask about the secret of the player in this game whose profession is ‘Thief’… what exactly is her purpose for approaching me?”

The God of Change laughed.

“I guessed there was about an eighty percent chance you’d ask about her… But that one is really interesting; before leaving, she even tried to steal something from me.”

“I’ll tell you—she is a member of the ‘Free Alliance.’ She used an item to join this dungeon to evaluate whether you are suitable to join the ‘Free Alliance’!”
