Martial Cultivator

Chen Chao had come in haste, and he left in haste as well.

Before the young disciples of the Infatuation Daoist Temple, along with those daoists who held some authority within the temple and possessed relatively high seniority, could make any move, Chen Chao had already departed the Infatuation Daoist Temple.

Yun Jianyue summoned every disciple of the Infatuation Daoist Temple who was not in secluded cultivation and announced that Cloud Ridge would belong to the Infatuation Daoist Temple for the next ten years.

The daoists of the Infatuation Daoist Temple were first astonished. Then they looked at Yun Jianyue and bowed, ”Temple Master is wise!”

Yun Jianyue looked toward Zheng Hua among the ranks and announced with a smile, ”For these next ten years, Junior Brother Zheng will be responsible for affairs at Cloud Ridge.”

As Yun Jianyue spoke those words, quite a few disciples of the Infatuation Daoist Temple turned to look at the young daoist of the same generation as Yun Jianyue. Zheng Hua’s talent was by no means lacking. He had already reached the very end of the Great Beyond Realm, and aside from his seniority, there was truly little anyone could criticize about him.

”Temple Master, I’m afraid this matter should still be discussed further?”

A middle-aged daoist spoke up. Anyone with eyes could tell that Cloud Ridge was an extremely lucrative place. Whoever was put in charge of its affairs would undoubtedly be able to reap considerable benefits.

Of course, they could also clearly see Yun Jianyue’s intentions. Such an important place would naturally be entrusted to someone he trusted.

Even so, there would still people who wanted to compete for it.

Yun Jianyue looked at the middle-aged daoist who had spoken but did not answer immediately.

The two met each other’s gaze. The middle-aged daoist’s confidence faltered, and he shifted his eyes elsewhere, no longer daring to speak.

Only then did Yun Jianyue say, ”I don’t think there’s any need for further discussion. After all, I’m not dead yet.”

Hearing those casually spoken words, many disciples fell silent, because they remembered that not long ago, when the young martial artist had entered the Infatuation Daoist Temple, he had said those exact same words.

Ever since Yun Jianyue had become temple master, he had always presented himself as gentle and magnanimous. But after so long, everyone seemed to have forgotten exactly how he had come to occupy the position of temple master.

Gothic Remake -2 The Minecrawler Nest: Talk To Asghan After Queen ”Not Bad My Friend”

He had personally killed the previous Chief Enforcer, throwing that Daoist Sage Chief Enforcer’s head before everyone’s eyes before ascending to the position of temple master.

He remained gentle and magnanimous because no one had provoked him. But if he no longer wished to maintain that gentleness, everyone would have to remember something else.

This unbelievably young temple master was also a great daoist sage.

If he truly decided to kill with his own hands, how many people in this daoist temple could withstand him?

”From this day forward, the Infatuation Daoist Temple and Great Liang shall restore friendly relations. From this day onward, all disciples of the temple may freely enter and leave the Infatuation Daoist Temple. No one is permitted to obstruct them.”

It was another lightly spoken sentence, yet it contained an extraordinary amount of meaning.

The young Lord Warden Commander had gifted them Cloud Ridge. The Infatuation Daoist Temple offered no gift in return, only this new rule of the mountain.

But what it implied was worthy of careful reflection.

Had Yun Jianyue not spoken those earlier words, there would likely have been many objections at this moment. But now, the daoists remained silent, unable to utter a single word.

After a brief silence, the disciples quickly reached a consensus and bowed together. ”We respectfully obey Temple Master’s decree.”

Yun Jianyue waved his hand and left the place, soon returning to his cave dwelling in the back mountain, where a woman was already waiting for him.

Ye Zhihua.

Yun Jianyue rubbed his forehead and smiled. ”Senior Sister.”

Ye Zhihua looked at him and smiled faintly as well before getting straight to the point. ”You’re going to the Northern Frontier soon?”

Now that those matters had been settled, disciples of the Infatuation Daoist Temple would certainly begin descending the mountain one after another in the coming days. But what Ye Zhihua cared about was Yun Jianyue. More than anyone else in the Infatuation Daoist Temple, he cared about the mortal world. If anyone were to go to the Northern Frontier, he would likely be among the very first.

Of course, once Yun Jianyue appeared atop the walls of the Northern Frontier, whether he would ever return was another matter entirely.

Based on Ye Zhihua’s understanding of him, and on how highly the demon race regarded him, it was entirely possible that Yun Jianyue would die in the Northern Frontier.

Yun Jianyue looked at Ye Zhihua without speaking, but his eyes remained as gentle as ever, like a quietly blooming flower.

”You don’t have to lie to me. I would never stop you from doing what you want to do. But if you’re going this time, I can go with you.”

Ye Zhihua’s voice was calm, just like the person herself. One of Daoism’s Twin Pillars, she had always been this way. Everything about her was gentle and restrained, even her love.

Yun Jianyue shook his head. ”According to Chen Chao, another cultivator at the end of Nepenthe wouldn’t make much difference on the walls of the Northern Frontier right now. Only another Fuyun Realm would truly be of great use.”

Ye Zhihua looked at Yun Jianyue. Even she found it somewhat unbelievable, ”You... have already reached the threshold?”

But as soon as she asked the question, Ye Zhihua fell silent.

Her first thought was that no one could possibly advance so quickly. But then she thought of that young martial artist.

He had advanced that quickly.

In what way was her junior brother inferior to him?

If he was not inferior, then he too should advance just as quickly.

Yun Jianyue smiled. ”I’m going into secluded cultivation. Once I emerge, it’ll be time to head north.”

Ye Zhihua looked at him before suddenly saying, ”A’Yue, shall we have a child?”

Yun Jianyue looked at his senior sister without speaking, but his face gradually reddened.

For someone who had already reached the realm of a great daoist sage, the number of times Yun Jianyue had blushed could probably be counted on one hand.

Ye Zhihua simply looked at him without saying a word.

Yun Jianyue turned to gaze at the distant sea of clouds. After a long while, he said softly, ”Hopefully it’s a daughter.”

Ye Zhihua said nothing and simply walked into the cave dwelling.

While Yun Jianyue reached out and gathered a wisp of cloud, casually shaping it into a little girl before smiling to himself.

......

......

Desolate north.

After the demon army had captured those mountain passes, the remaining passes also fell one after another over the following days. By now, the demon race had occupied every pass before the Northern Frontier Great Wall.

In other words, every defensive barrier before the Northern Frontier Great Wall had ceased to exist. The frontier army of Great Liang now had no choice but to face the vast demon army directly.

However, despite capturing every pass before the Northern Frontier Great Wall, the demon race did not immediately march south to assault the tough bone that was the Northern Frontier Great Wall.

The demon army under the command of Demon Lord Redsleeve was encamped several hundred miles outside the Northern Frontier Great Wall. At this moment, the million-strong demon army was waiting for Demon Lord Redsleeve to give the order to march south.

But this legendary female demon lord seemed to have no intention of doing so for the time being.

Inside the central command tent, there were only two people. One was naturally Demon Lord Redsleeve. The other was someone no one would have expected to see there - the demon race’s High Priest.

The nominal second-in-command of the demon race was not in the Demon Royal City at this moment. Instead, he had come to the army’s encampment.

”Jing Zhu, what brings you here?”

Demon Lord Redsleeve smiled as she looked at the High Priest. The relationship between the two had always been somewhat delicate. But one thing was clear, if not for this High Priest, Demon Lord Redsleeve might never have left seclusion and would instead have remained in the Southern Frontier.

”Logically speaking, your command of warfare surpasses mine by far, but I’m still afraid you’ll act arbitrarily.”

The High Priest did not conceal the purpose of his visit. If there was anyone in the world who could persuade Demon Lord Redsleeve, it was only him.

Demon Lord Redsleeve chuckled. ”You’re not worried about my ability to wage war. You’re only worried that, relying on overwhelming resources, I won’t bother putting much thought into it and will instead choose the simplest and most reckless approach? You’re afraid I’ll think that since victory is inevitable and marching south is inevitable, then however we march south, it doesn’t really matter at what cost?”

The High Priest nodded. ”They are His Majesty’s subjects, and they are also your subjects. Don’t let them die for nothing. Or rather, do your best to let fewer of them die.”

Demon Lord Redsleeve smiled, unconcerned by his words, and just said, ”I don’t delight in killing either. Watching them die doesn’t make me happy.”

”Do you really think I’ve remained inactive these past few days because I want to force that nephew of mine to do something?”

Demon Lord Redsleeve smiled faintly. If she had truly intended to take the city at any cost, the battle would have begun long ago.

She could simply overwhelm them with numbers. At least tens of thousands of corpses would be left behind every single day.

By then, the land would truly be carpeted with the dead.

”They want to rely on the Northern Frontier Great Wall to make their stand. But I want to lure them out.”

Looking at the High Priest, Demon Lord Redsleeve said, ”If not for that woman, many things would actually be much simpler.”

There were many capable commanders among the border army of the Northern Frontier, but none of them concerned Demon Lord Redsleeve. Only that young woman truly made her wary.

The High Priest said, ”Sneak into the Great Wall and kill her?”

Demon Lord Redsleeve did not answer. Instead, she asked, ”Would it be easy?”

The High Priest remained silent.

Demon Lord Redsleeve smiled to herself, ”That young martial artist will appear atop those walls before long. But as for our Majesty... who knows when he’ll finally show himself?”

”If he really charges into the middle of our army, will these people even dare attack him? And even if they do, how many soldiers will he kill before exhausting himself?”

”In war, soldiers fight soldiers, and generals fight generals.”

Demon Lord Redsleeve said, ”I remember the human race has a saying. I think it goes, ’Even the cleverest housewife cannot cook without rice.’”

The High Priest frowned. ”In that case, shouldn’t we attack before that young martial artist arrives?”

Demon Lord Redsleeve shook her head, ”The most urgent matter is to make my nephew understand one thing. Since we’ve mobilized the entire race to march south, then everyone has to bring out everything they have. Hiding their strength simply won’t do.”

The High Priest fell silent once more, unable to say anything.

......

......

In fact, while Demon Lord Redsleeve and the High Priest were speaking inside the central command tent, a figure had already begun slowly heading north from the Demon Royal City.

That figure was extraordinarily tall.
