Martial Cultivator

Chen Chao accepted the mountain ginseng and said, “Give my thanks to Madam Redcloud.”

The girl nodded and said she would certainly tell her.

Then she just stood there, not speaking, nor showing any intention to leave.

Chen Chao thought for a moment and said, “Care to have breakfast together?”

The girl nodded, clearly a little overjoyed.

The two of them then went to the bun shop across the street. They ordered a basket of buns. Chen Chao had not yet picked up his chopsticks before the girl already grabbed one for herself.

“Your Excellency, the buns here are actually only so-so. In Clear Pool Town, Liu’s buns are the good ones. Last time I came here, I already figured it out. If Your Excellency is free tomorrow, I can bring you there to eat?”

The girl spoke while eating, her mouth full, but she never stopped talking.

Chen Chao picked up a bun, raised a brow, and shook his head. “We’re not eating only buns.”

The girl made a confused “Hm?” She thought seriously for a moment but still didn’t quite understand, and somehow ended up blushing.

Chen Chao ignored her and looked toward the door. About two hours later, a woman brought a young girl over.

They sat at a table not far in front of him.

Chen Chao raised his brows.

Eating buns was of course only incidental. As the Great Liang’s Lord Warden Commander, naturally he had things to do.

Over the next fifteen minutes, Chen Chao occasionally looked toward the small girl, who never stopped eating her buns.

After the small girl finished, she got up and left. Chen Chao also rose to return to the small courtyard.

The girl who had eaten many buns got up as well, following Chen Chao back to the courtyard gate.

Chen Chao stopped and said to her, “Miss, you may head back now.”

The girl’s lips had a slight oily sheen, likely from the buns earlier. But even so, she did not look greasy.

In truth, very few women in the world looked greasy.

The girl hesitated but did not leave. She bit her lip and said, “But Your Excellency has not asked my name yet.”

Chen Chao stayed silent. If he wished, he naturally could find out her name. But knowing she had feelings for him, he did not want unnecessary entanglements or to involve himself in extra matters of affection.

Although someone liking him was that person’s business, if things could be cleanly severed early, he preferred to sever them early.

The girl gritted her teeth, then suddenly revealed another bright smile. “Your Excellency, my name is Su Hu.”

Chen Chao nodded helplessly.

”Got it.”

In the days that followed, Chen Chao went to the bun shop every day at the same time to eat buns, and he would also see that small girl arrive punctually to eat buns. The two never spoke, nor had any interaction at all. Ȑά𐌽ÓBΕš

As for the girl named Su Hu, she had not appeared again in these days. That was because, after that day, Chen Chao had instructed Madam Redcloud, and the order was to be followed unconditionally.

Several more days passed. At dusk, Chen Chao arrived at the largest tavern in the small town.

To call it “large” was not accurate. It was merely a small tavern with a second floor.

Chen Chao went up to the second floor and casually found a place to sit. Then he raised his brows, he unexpectedly encountered an old acquaintance.

Strictly speaking, not even an old acquaintance. The two had merely met once in Yellow Dragon Prefecture, when a drunken sword cultivator patted his shoulder and offered him some advice. Chen Chao had not gotten angry, letting him pat his shoulder, and even remained polite afterward.

But after learning his identity, that sword cultivator had immediately broken into a cold sweat.

To meet again now, Chen Chao had not expected it would be in such a small tavern.

The sword cultivator was still drunk, sitting not far in front of him.

So when the man spoke, Chen Chao could hear him clearly.

“Enough drinking for today! There’s a secret I’ve kept for a long time, and right now, I really want to say it! No one can stop me!”

The drunken sword cultivator suddenly shouted, his voice loud enough to draw the attention of everyone around.

His friend at the same table quickly tugged him, frowning. “Keep your voice down. Don’t go blurting out anything about the cultivation world’s secrets.”

This drunken sword cultivator had been born in this small town. Later, a passing sword cultivator noticed him and accepted him as a disciple. He began his cultivation life, and although his cultivation realm was decent now, he never saw himself as someone extraordinary. He often returned home, this small town, and drank heavily with childhood friends.

This time, he had returned because he thought he had offended that Lord Warden Commander gravely back then, and surely that man would retaliate. He had no face left to remain in his sect. So after watching the Sword Sect’s Sect Master draw his sword, he came home. For all these days, he had lived in constant fear, believing he only had a few days left to live.

Thus, he drank himself senseless every day.

Until two days ago, when the sect sent a letter asking why he had not returned yet, only then did this drunken sword cultivator suddenly realize: the sect was fine. Everything was peaceful.

He had not been punished.

In other words, that Lord Warden Commander was not the rumored murderous demon, and he would not be held accountable for his behavior that day.

Knowing he had escaped disaster, the drunken sword cultivator invited his friends out again to drink today.

By now he was completely drunk. Hearing his friend’s warning, he laughed boldly. “What nonsense? How would I know any secrets of the cultivation world?”

After saying this, the drunken sword cultivator pressed down on his friend’s head and laughed loudly. “Everyone! Do you know that Lord Warden Commander? The one who likes wearing black, the martial artist with a saber at his waist! He was at Yellow Dragon Prefecture that day! He was standing right in front of me! I patted his shoulder and even gave him some advice! And guess what happened? ”Heh! That Lord Warden Commander stood right there and said he would definitely improve next time. Hahaha! Do you all know the weight of patting his shoulder like that? Do you know how many people in the world can pat his shoulder like that? Hahaha...” “Hahaha...”

The drunken sword cultivator burst into loud laughter, his voice so loud that everyone in the entire tavern heard him clearly. Not a single person missed it.

But none of the tavern’s patrons took him seriously. They only thought that this drunken sword cultivator had drunk too much and was spouting random drunken nonsense.

Pat that Lord Warden Commander on the shoulder? Lectured him, and he didn’t dare talk back?

Listen to that, does even a single word sound believable?

Who do you think you are, that you think you can meet our Lord Warden Commander whenever you want?

You pat the shoulder of some random young man dressed in a black robe on the street and claim you patted the Lord Warden Commander’s shoulder? There’s even a young man in a black robe right here, why don’t you say he is the Lord Warden Commander?
