We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 466: What Does It Matter Whether One Is Demon or Human?

”My, my, little Jingci has grown this much already.”

Seeing his beloved granddaughter come running sweetly toward him, the old man named Gui Ning also hurried forward with a warm laugh but he quickly noticed that the cinnabar mole between his granddaughterʼs brows had disappeared.

The limping old man pressed down his inward surprise and lifted his granddaughter into his arms, pinching her soft, pale cheeks. ”How have you been? Has your mother been scolding you?”

”She has, Grandfather. Mother scolds me all the time.” Tushan Jingci puffed out her cheeks with an aggrieved air. ”Grandfather, you must stay a few more days. As long as you are here, Mother will not scold me.”

”Ha ha ha, very well then. Grandfather will stay a few more days.”

The limping old man gave a nod, then looked out at the gathered guests of the Mount Tu residence.

”Why are all of you bowing to an old man who is practically already buried up to his neck in yellow earth? There is no need to be so courteous. Please sit down, everyone. Todayʼs star is my granddaughter.”

”Yes, Elder.”

Hearing the old man with the walking stick say this, everyone returned to their seats.

”Father.”
Tushan Xinhua stepped forward, her expression carrying a trace of complex emotion.

”Mm.” Gui Ning gave a nod, understanding what his daughter-in-law wanted to say. ”As I always say, today is my granddaughterʼs birthday. Even if the sky were falling, it can wait until later.”

”Yes, Father.”

Tushan Xinhua gave a nod and said nothing more, accompanying her father-in-law to the seat of honor.

As noon drew near, once all the guests had arrived, the maidservants of the Mount Tu residence began bringing out the dishes.

The leading performers from every major entertainment house in Immortal Fox City, dressed in light, sheer robes, danced gracefully between the tables and on the main stage.

The music of strings and woodwinds never ceased, and the entire residence was alive with merriment.

After several rounds of wine, it was time for the presentation of gifts.

”Gift from His Majesty the ruler of the Celestial Demon Kingdom, a demi-immortal weapon, the ʼSamadhi Flowing Fire Swordʼ!”

”Gift from the Sect Master of the Thunder Roar Sect, one Heavenly Thunder Pearl!”

”Gift from the Ten Thousand Demons Kingdom, a demi-immortal weapon, the ʼCold Abyss Bone Bladeʼ!”

”Gift from the Leaf Serpent Kingdom, one Nine-Shadow Formation Chart!”

”...”

As Steward Xiong called out each gift in turn, every guest came forward personally to present their offering.

In hopes of forging a good relationship with the Mount Tu residence, the various families and notable figures of Immortal Fox City had each believed the gift they had brought was sufficiently precious.

They had sat at the banquet with their gifts in hand, feeling rather pleased with themselves but when they heard the gifts being presented by the rulers and sect masters, only then did they realize that their own offerings were truly nothing by comparison.

Some of them even felt embarrassed to bring them out at all.

When Steward Xiong read out their gifts, they could not help but feel their faces grow warm.

They could only comfort themselves with the thought that ”a gift is a gesture of the heart,” reassuring themselves that the Lady of Mount Tu would certainly not take issue with it.

And beyond that, the guests from Immortal Fox City looked at the young ones these dignitaries had brought along, and understood clearly that their gifts were not simply for celebrating the Young Missʼs birthday. There was every likelihood that a portion of those gifts was intended as a gesture of courtship as well.

After all, the Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox clan now had only this one mother and daughter remaining.

The Lady of Mount Tu was naturally out of the question. The Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox clan was bound to one person for one lifetime, and even as a widow, the Lady could never remarry but whoever could arrange a childhood engagement with the Lady of Mount Tuʼs daughter, setting aside how noble the bloodline of the Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox was, simply becoming the future son-in-law of Elder Guiʼs granddaughter was something every great power dreamed of.

A full half an hour passed before the gift presentation was concluded.

Tushan Jingci followed her mother once more through the tables to thank each guest in turn.

Seizing the opportunity, the rulers of the demon kingdoms and the sect masters steered conversations repeatedly toward the young ones they had brought, hoping to let their charges make a favorable impression on the Lady of Mount Tu and Tushan Jingci.

And it had to be admitted, the Lady of Mount Tu could not deny that these children, whether in appearance, natural gifts, or bloodline and status, were all quite exceptional.

As long as no unexpected misfortune befell them and they grew up smoothly, they would, in any case, become pillars of the Demon Realm.

And so the Lady of Mount Tu did not mind their efforts to make matches for her daughter, feeling that among them, it might truly be possible to identify a worthy future son-in-law but the moment the Lady of Mount Tu thought of that little human boy, she set that line of thought aside.

Everything, in the end, would have to be decided by her daughter.

After host and guests had all enjoyed themselves to the fullest, the birthday banquet carried on through the afternoon before finally drawing to a close.

As they took their leave, every ruler of a demon kingdom and every sect master privately and tactfully expressed their wish to form a marriage alliance with the Tushan family.

Tushan Xinhua neither accepted nor declined, only saying that her daughter was still young, and that they could discuss such matters again once she was older and had formed her own views.

”Father.”

After seeing all the guests off, Tushan Xinhua came to the rear courtyard and stepped before the old man, giving a respectful bow.

”Mm.” Gui Ning gave a nod, his warm, gentle gaze still resting on his granddaughter, who was chasing butterflies in the distance. ”All the guests have been seen off?”

”They have.” Tushan Xinhua replied.

”This time, those rulers and sect masters all brought their young ones along, hoping to arrange a marriage tie with you. What is your view on the matter?” The old man asked.

”Those young ones are genuinely impressive.” Tushan Xinhuaʼs expression grew troubled. ”But Jingci...”

”Ahh,” the old man said, waving his hand. ”I mean, even setting aside what happened to the cinnabar mole, what would your view be?”

”I am inclined toward the First Prince of the Celestial Demon Kingdom, Chen Jue.” Tushan Xinhua answered honestly.

”What about the male who made contact with Jingci? Will he not do?” The old man asked.

Tushan Xinhua bit gently at her lower lip. ”Father... the little boy who touched Jingci is a human...”

”Human? Demon? He he he...”

The old man laughed softly, said nothing in reply, and simply waved toward his granddaughter in the distance. ”Jingci, stop playing for a moment. Come here.”

Hearing her grandfather call, Tushan Jingci ran toward him on her short little legs, her tail bouncing up and down.

”Grandfather, what is it?”

”Nothing much.” The old man ruffled his granddaughterʼs small head. ”Just that today is your birthday, and a good number of little boys about your age came. Do you think any of them are good-looking?”

”Hmm...”

Tushan Jingci thought about the way they had looked, then shook her small head and answered, ”Not particularly!”

”Really, those children are not good-looking?” The old man said with a smile. ”Then in Jingciʼs eyes, what kind of little boy is the most good-looking?”

”Hmm...”

The little girl chewed her finger and thought for a moment.

Shortly after, a glimmer of light flashed through the little girlʼs eyes. ”The one Jingci likes is the most good-looking!”

”Ha ha ha!”

The old man laughed until he could barely contain himself, then turned around, his aged finger pointing at his daughter-in-law.

”Do you see that? Do you see?”

”What does it matter whether one is demon or human?”

”Our little Jingci sees things far more clearly than you do.”
