We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 464: Mother, Do You Truly Not Blame Xiao Mo?

In a side courtyard of the Mount Tu residence.

The morning sunlight drifted in through the window and fell upon the face of a small boy.

Xiao Mo, lying on the bed, blinked his eyes open in a drowsy haze.

The first thing Xiao Mo saw was not the familiar ceiling, nor unfamiliar bed curtains. It was a pair of large, bright, dewy eyes, blinking at him steadily.

Behind the little girl, a snow-white fox tail swayed from side to side.

The moment she saw Xiao Mo wake up, a glimmer of light flashed through the little girlʼs eyes, and the fox tail behind her swayed with even greater enthusiasm. ”Xiao Mo, you are awake!”

”Where am I?”

Xiao Moʼs consciousness gradually cleared.

He only remembered that last night they had been attacked, and that he and Tushan Jingci had fallen together into the water.

After that, he had lost consciousness.
”This is nothing more than an ordinary maidservantʼs room.”

A voice carrying a natural, inherent allure reached Xiao Moʼs ears.

In the next moment, Xiao Mo saw the Lady of the residence, whose figure and appearance were both exceptional, walk over toward him.

Tushan Xinhua smoothed her skirt with both hands, the long gown clinging to her waist as she sat slowly at the head of Xiao Moʼs bed, then reached out and pressed her palm to his forehead.

Xiao Mo felt a gentle, warm spiritual energy slowly flowing into his body.

A short while later, Tushan Xinhua withdrew her hand and spoke. ”There is nothing seriously wrong with your body. You were simply frightened and your spirit was shaken. You do not need to work in the kitchen courtyard for the next few days. Simply rest and recuperate.”

”Yes, many thanks to the Lady.” Xiao Mo responded.

Tushan Xinhua glanced at her daughter, then ruffled her head gently. ”Jingci, step away for a moment. Mother has something to say to Xiao Mo.”

”All right... all right then...”

Though a trace of worry lingered in the little girlʼs eyes, she still went obediently.

After Tushan Jingci left, only Xiao Mo and Tushan Xinhua remained in the room.

Xiao Mo pushed himself up from the bed, climbed down, and clasped his hands in a proper bow before Tushan Xinhua. ”Last night I touched the Young Missʼs body and broke the rules of the household. I ask the Lady to punish me as she sees fit.”

Tushan Xinhua looked at the little boy bowing so properly before her, and blinked her eyes slowly, folding her hands in her lap. ”That bow of yours is quite correct in form. Who taught you that?”

”In reply to the Lady, I learn things quickly by nature. I saw some scholars bowing once and thought it looked proper, so I practiced it a little.”

Xiao Mo had not expected Tushan Xinhua to ask such a thing, and explained casually off the top of his head.

”Mm.”

Tushan Xinhua gave a nod and thought nothing further of it, accepting Xiao Moʼs explanation.

”Get up. There is no need for excessive formality with me. I have heard the full account from Yueshi. Although you did make contact with Jingci, it was an unavoidable necessity in a moment of crisis. And if it were not for you, Jingci would likely have been in real danger.”

”Many thanks for the Ladyʼs understanding.”

Xiao Mo straightened up, feeling a quiet surprise in his heart.

Although Xiao Mo did not know why no male, regardless of species, was permitted to touch so much as a hair on Jingciʼs head, he had felt that committing such a serious offense might very likely cost him his life.

The fact that this Lady of Mount Tu was being so reasonable was entirely unexpected.

”All right, you may return to the kitchen courtyard shortly. Remember, you are not to speak of touching Jingci to anyone. As for your reward, once the business of Jingciʼs birthday today is finished, it will not be overlooked. And furthermore...”

Tushan Xinhua drew an ancient, worn book from her sleeve and handed it to Xiao Mo.

”My Lady, this is...?”

On the cover of the old book, Xiao Mo could make out characters: ”The Great Dream of the Yellow Millet.”

”This is a Daoist text of the human clan, and one of the treasures preserved by our Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox clan. It records the arts and techniques of the human clanʼs Daoist tradition. When I examined you, I found that your bone structure and spiritual root are quite exceptional, and you are well suited to cultivating Daoist arts.”

”Take this book and read it first. Whatever you do not understand, you have four opportunities each month to ask me.”

”Although my own cultivation is not in the Daoist tradition, explaining the basics to you is something I can still manage.”

Xiao Mo received the book with both hands and expressed his sincere gratitude. ”Many thanks to the Lady for the gift of this method...”

”I am not giving you a method. I am only giving you a direction to walk in. How far you go from here, and how high your cultivation reaches, depends entirely on you.”

Tushan Xinhua looked at Xiao Mo with earnest eyes.

”If you truly have the ability, I will provide you with cultivation resources. In time, you may even become a resident practitioner of my Mount Tu residence.”

”If you do not, then serve as a guard in the future. A stable, quiet life is also a good one.”

”The road lies beneath your own feet. In the end, you must walk it yourself.”

”Yes.” Xiao Mo gave a nod and bowed respectfully. ”Mo will take his leave.”

Xiao Mo tucked ”The Great Dream of the Yellow Millet” into his robe and walked out of the room and just a short while after Xiao Mo left, Tushan Xinhua let out a quiet sigh and called toward the doorway. ”All right, stop lurking out there eavesdropping. Come in.”

As the words landed, Tushan Jingci walked into the room with her small head lowered, two fingers poking at each other, looking very much like she was braced to be scolded.

”Mother, I am sorry...”

Tushan Jingciʼs tail drooped, and her expression was one of genuine remorse.

After all, from the time she was small, her mother had always taught her that she must never make contact with any male creature.

Although Tushan Jingci did not understand why, she had always followed her motherʼs rules but now, she had broken them.

”It is all right. It is done now.”

Tushan Xinhua shook her head and looked at her daughter, a tenderness rising in her heart.

”Starting today, Jingci, you are free to play with anyone you like. You may also leave the residence. Mother will not place any restrictions on you anymore.”

”Really?” Tushan Jingci raised her head and blinked her eyes happily.

”Really.” Tushan Xinhua smiled faintly, touching her daughterʼs small face. ”But you must also remember. You are a girl, and you must conduct yourself with propriety. Men and women should not touch casually. You cannot let boys touch you however they please in the future either. Understood?”

”Understood, Mother.”

Tushan Jingci nodded her small head, but very quickly, a trace of worry resurfaced in her eyes.

”Mother, do you truly... truly not blame Xiao Mo?”

”Mm, Mother does not blame him.” Tushan Xinhua said gently.

”Then can I still find him to play with in the future?” The little girl asked the question that mattered most to her.

Tushan Xinhua was momentarily taken aback, then smiled with gentle resignation, drawing out her words. ”You can... though today you must be on your best behavior. There will be many guests coming shortly, and you must get through your birthday celebration first. Understood?”

”Understood, Mother. Mother is the best!” Tushan Jingci rose on her tiptoes and pressed a kiss to her motherʼs cheek, then ran happily out of the room.

Watching her daughterʼs small, lively figure hopping and skipping into the distance, the warmth that had been in Tushan Xinhuaʼs smile gradually faded, replaced by a worry that would not lift.

”So be it... let things take their own course.”

”Perhaps this is for the best.”

”There is nothing else... that can be done.”
