I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

The moment that mountain-like figure appeared, violent tremors began. The walls cracked, the roof collapsed, fierce winds raged, and all kinds of alchemy equipment exploded one after another amid sharp alarms, spraying flames of terrifying heat… The whole world seemed to be heading toward destruction.

Those “cubs” born in the white room and imprisoned here, as if losing their sanity in an instant, let out maddening screams that made one’s head spin, with only the Beast of Inheritance as the exception.

Amid the chaotic ruins, it raised its head, staring blankly at that figure, as if issuing a silent, insignificant challenge.

That figure seemed to notice its existence as well, but only cast an indifferent glance–malicious, contemptuous, and arrogant.

The next moment, a terrifying psychic energy fluctuation swept over, as if to annihilate the Beast of Inheritance.

It began to scream, gradually descending into madness, with fear and anxiety surging through its soul like a tsunami.

Unable to resist the onslaught of pain, it suddenly quieted for a moment, then began to whisper with difficulty.

“forms are not forms, all dharmas are not dharmas…”

And then…

Lu Yibei, or rather, the Beast of Inheritance, could sense everything dissipating, once again falling into a long darkness and deathly silence.——–

Time seemed to stand still.

In the endless wait, Lu Yibei couldn’t help but start pondering.

What exactly was that terrifying figure?

Some kind of haunting? But what kind of haunting could be so terrifying?

Although this wasn’t the first time Lu Yibei had glimpsed that figure, and each time she saw it, she had grown much stronger than before, what never changed was the fear she felt when facing it.

It was as if, compared to the gap between her and that figure, her increase in strength was so minuscule it could be ignored.

It was like an ant, no matter how strong it became, could never kill a true beast.

It had appeared at the car accident scene, and again at the place where the Beast of Inheritance was born. Was there some inevitable connection between these events?

The Beast of Inheritance and I, both survivors of disasters caused by that figure–could there be some similarity between us?

But what is the similarity between me and the Beast of Inheritance?

Lu Yibei thought, her mind as tangled as a ball of yarn played with by a cat, unable to find a single clue for a long time.

However, she faintly felt that if she could find the common ground between herself and the Beast of Inheritance, and unite with more psychics or hauntings who shared this trait, then perhaps, when forced to face that terrifying figure one day, they might still have the power to fight back.

Even if they were all ants, countless ants united could make a beast hesitate.

What’s more…

With a few more “like-minded” helpers, if danger arose, she could always retreat behind them to protect herself at the right moment!

At this thought, Lu Yibei couldn’t help but feel a slight fondness for the Beast of Inheritance–not only because they had both encountered that terrifying figure, but also because the Beast of Inheritance looked like a powerful meat shield.

——–

Time passed bit by bit.

Just as Lu Yibei was struggling to find the similarities between herself and the Beast of Inheritance, light suddenly returned before her eyes, and she saw a scene.

After waiting in darkness and silence for a long time, someone dug through the ruins of the white room covering the Beast of Inheritance’s body.

It opened its eyes, looking blankly at this familiar yet strange world, with a hint of anticipation in its gaze.

It was like a treasure buried underground for centuries, finally unearthed and seeing the sun again.

Unfortunately, before it could clearly see this drastically changed world, the Eclipse Society members who had found it showed their malice without reservation.

Figures in black robes, as if unafraid of death, kept attacking it, countless spell formations pouring down like a torrential rain.

If it showed the slightest flaw, those Eclipse Society members would seize the opportunity to drive silver needles inscribed with incantations into its body.

One, two, three… one thousand and one.

Under the pain of being pierced by the long needles, it roared and struggled violently, until it exhausted the last of its strength and collapsed atop a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.

Thus, just after seeing the light again, it fell once more into endless darkness.

It was imprisoned, subjected to seemingly endless torment.

However, just as the Eclipse Society began their first experiment on the Beast of Inheritance, the scene before Lu Yibei’s eyes abruptly ended.

Darkness descended.

——–

Lu Yibei opened her eyes, staring blankly at the dilapidated, crumbling little park and the distant turbulence swirling with sharp fragments.

After a long while, she finally came to her senses.

The past that the Beast of Inheritance wanted to show her had already ended.

Lu Yibei frowned at the Beast of Inheritance, puzzled. “Why did you stop?”

“Be-because it was too terrifying…” the Beast of Inheritance replied weakly.

Lu Yibei, “……” Too terrifying? Is it worried I can’t handle it?

Unconsciously, her goodwill toward the Beast of Inheritance increased a little more.

Waiting in the darkness, she had already prepared herself to endure the pain the Beast of Inheritance had suffered, but she hadn’t expected that, just as the pain was about to hit, the Beast of Inheritance would cut off their mental link.

Even so, perhaps because of the influence of the Beast of Inheritance’s power, Lu Yibei actually felt she could understand the pain it was currently enduring.

Putting herself in its shoes, if it were her, after surviving that car accident, just waking up and being captured and thrown into prison, she would probably have lost her mind already.

Let alone being thrown into prison by a bunch of ruthless people.

What good could the Eclipse Society possibly do?

You can’t expect that, after falling into the hands of the Eclipse Society, you’d have nothing to do every day, eat well, drink well, have fun, and get regular essential oil massages, can you? Lu Yibei thought.

“Alright, let’s get down to business.” Lu Yibei asked the Beast of Inheritance, “What do I need to do to help you?”

Hearing this, the Beast of Inheritance’s eyes lit up, and it told Lu Yibei everything without reservation, “When they were transferring me, I secretly memorized the scenery around that place. If you’re willing to help me, you can come find me there and take me away.”

“That place?” Lu Yibei tilted her head, pressing further, “What place?”

“The Great Furnace. I heard them mention this name,” the Beast of Inheritance said.

Lu Yibei, “……”

She was silent for two seconds, then raised both hands expressionlessly and cupped them toward the Beast of Inheritance.

Sorry to bother you, just pretend you’ve never seen me!

Are you kidding me?

What is the Great Furnace? That’s the Eclipse Society’s No. 4 base! Lu Yibei thought fiercely.

In fact, not long after she left Tang City and returned to Hua City, she went to the Hua City Midnight Watchers Society’s archives to look up information on the Eclipse Society’s bases.

However, whether it was her clearance level or the Midnight Watchers Society’s clearance level in Hua City that wasn’t high enough, the highest confidentiality level she could find in the archives was only for Base No. 17. One could imagine how dangerous Base No. 4 was.

Even though I learned the way into the Great Furnace from Ms. Rabbit, you need to be able to get out alive too!

From the bits and pieces of information she got from Ms. Rabbit, the Great Furnace was practically the Eclipse Society’s most core experimental site.

Just think about how many valuable things and precious materials must be inside.

A place like that, the Eclipse Society’s security level must be off the charts.

Not only would there be high-intensity psychic energy defense systems that could withstand catastrophe-class attacks for a long time and hold out until reinforcements arrived, there might even be catastrophe-class psychics or hauntings stationed there, and there must be at least a battalion of Class A.

Otherwise, the Midnight Watchers Society would have wiped it out long ago, or other illegal psychic organizations would have looted it clean.

For example, if the Miracle Order knew about the Great Furnace, they’d definitely try their luck and see if a miracle would happen.

A place like that, even if your stealth skill was maxed out, you probably couldn’t sneak in.

My strength is just barely passable right now, how am I supposed to fight them? Lu Yibei thought.

Just as she was figuring out how to tactfully refuse the Beast of Inheritance without provoking it into a sudden rampage that would threaten her, the PL girl’s voice sounded in her ear.

“Yo, little bro, you there? I’m almost done on my end. How’s it going over there? Did you behave and not interact with any creations in the Beast of Inheritance’s mental world?”

Damn, you finally showed up. I thought my cheat vendor had run off! Lu Yibei cursed inwardly, replying with her thoughts, “No……”

“Good.” The PL girl breathed a sigh of relief.

“But……”

“But?”

“But I did interact with the Beast of Inheritance. It’s right in front of me now. Want me to put it on the line?” Lu Yibei replied calmly.

“What the hell?” The PL girl exclaimed, “I told you not to interact with weird stuff, and you went straight to the ancestor of weird stuff!?”

She’d been working with Lu Yibei for a while, but this was the first time she’d encountered a situation she didn’t know how to handle right away.

Change is good, but you changed so much all at once, I can’t keep up. The PL girl thought.

“Yeah, not only did I interact with it, I successfully turned it,” Lu Yibei said blandly.

“You turned the Beast of Inheritance…?” The PL girl asked, stunned.

How did she do it? Or has Lu Yibei already been devoured, and the one talking to me now is actually the Beast of Inheritance? No, that can’t be, I’d be able to sense it! The PL girl thought to herself.

From her experience with the Beast of Inheritance, that thing was a source of both mental and physical contamination. To turn it, unless… she’s an even higher-tier source of contamination?

“But now, there’s a very serious problem,” Lu Yibei continued, interrupting the PL girl’s thoughts.

“What problem?”

“The Beast of Inheritance is under the Eclipse Society’s control. Now it wants me to rescue it.”

“Where?”

“The Great Furnace.”

“……”

The PL girl pondered for two seconds, then said earnestly, “Little bro, courting death isn’t the same as seeking death. There’s a basic principle: to court but not die, that’s the essence. Do you understand?”

“So you mean…” Lu Yibei probed, “I should just leave it and bail?”

“That works. Honestly, I think that’s more reliable.”

“No, what I mean is, I have a way to court death without dying. Want to try it?” The PL girl said, her words tinged with temptation.

Lu Yibei, “……” Why do I have a bad feeling about this? Is she going to pull some trick and screw me over again?
