I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

Waking up every morning and being able to see a beautiful girl is a joyful thing.

Having the mysteries that once puzzled your heart gradually become clear is also a joyful thing.

Two joyful things intertwined should have brought even greater happiness, but…

If the price is turning into a beautiful girl, it really makes you want to curse.

In the bathroom, Lu Yibei stared blankly at the girl in the mirror, the corners of her eyes twitching uncontrollably.

Although she had experienced similar things in her dream memories, when this situation happened in the “real” world, she still found it hard to accept.

“Damn! Do they really expect me to just get used to this after a couple of times?” Lu Yibei cursed under her breath, and her eyes quickly dimmed, as if a cloud had settled over them.

Her body had really undergone the “magical” change just like in her dream memories, which only further proved the authenticity of those memories.

It also meant that everything she had experienced with Ms. Wang Meili and Nanling Rao Hua over the past eighteen years was gradually drifting away from her, becoming illusory.

Compared to waking up and turning from a macho man into a beautiful girl, this was the thing she found hardest to accept.Just as Lu Yibei was wallowing in melancholy and doubting her life.

As if to stop her from continuing down this train of thought, her brain suddenly throbbed with intense pain.

The pain felt as if something hard and sharp had stabbed into her head through her temple, stirring madly back and forth, unbearable and excruciating.

The sudden pain drained the color from her face, making her sway on her feet. She hurriedly braced herself against the sink, barely keeping herself from collapsing from the agony.

Along with the throbbing in her brain, the strange noise she had heard in her dream sounded in her ears once again.

In her slightly feverish eyes, the light and shadows twisted, the colors she saw becoming even more vivid or even deeper in their darkness.

The noise in her ears grew stronger and stronger, making her mind chaotic. Just as Lu Yibei felt she was about to go mad, she suddenly heard a woman’s gentle whisper amid the noise.

The voice was very soft, very distant, indistinct. She tried desperately to focus, wanting to hear it clearly, but only caught a few fragmented words.

“…Wherever the sun and moon shine, wherever the wind and rain reach, all must obey.”

Is this some kind of haunting power description? Lu Yibei made this judgment.

Originally, her memories about haunting powers were only vaguely present in her dream memories, shrouded in thick fog, impossible to see clearly.

However, the moment she caught that snippet of words, the fog over that memory seemed to be blown away by the wind, and everything became clear.

“Damn! What I recited yesterday in BanShan Apartment was actually the power description of a haunting that governs marriage and fertility?” Lu Yibei lowered her head, her gaze falling on her lower abdomen, and took a sharp breath. “Crap, what if she responds to me and gives me a child?”

Just as she was worrying whether that unknown deity would notice her existence, that incomplete power description echoed in her mind again, without warning.

“…Wherever the sun and moon shine, wherever the wind and rain reach, all must obey.”

In an instant, it felt as if something inside her was awakened. Her heart began to race, her blood boiled as if it were surging through her body, her whole body grew unbearably hot, and her fair skin gradually flushed with a drunken blush, leaving her drenched in fragrant sweat.

The abnormal change in her body lasted only about three seconds. As the noise in her ears faded away, the restless blood in Lu Yibei’s body also settled down as if nothing had happened.

“……”

With such an arrogant power description, has it never been ambushed with a sack over its head? Feeling her heart still pounding wildly, Lu Yibei thought to herself.

A few seconds later, when the chaotic lights and shadows before her eyes had completely dissipated, she raised her head, looked at the mirror in front of her, and was slightly stunned.

The girl in the mirror wore an ill-fitting oversized T-shirt that hung loosely, revealing her rounded, fragrant shoulders. Her long legs stretched out from beneath the T-shirt’s hem at the tops of her thighs, making for a rather seductive scene.

Her face was a bit pale, but it had a jade-like, icy luster. Her features were soft, her nose both straight and beautiful.

Her dazzling eyes had slightly upturned corners, adding a hint of seductiveness to her purity. Her thin lips, echoing her pink-white long hair, were tinged with a faint cherry blossom hue.

“Wait…” Lu Yibei was stunned for a moment, narrowing her eyes. “How did my hair change color? And this face…”

There was a sense of déjà vu, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on what was off.

While grumbling inwardly, she suddenly raised her eyebrows, hurriedly left the bathroom, and rushed into Ms. Wang Meili’s bedroom.

In the bedroom, when she saw the artistic photo of Ms. Wang Meili hanging on the wall, she was struck as if by lightning, her body trembling.

In that instant, Ms. Wang Meili’s face and the face of the girl in the mirror overlapped in Lu Yibei’s mind, with a similarity as high as 88.8721%. The only difference was that Ms. Wang Meili’s brows carried a bit more heroic spirit, while the girl had a more seductive charm.

With such a high degree of similarity, it was practically Ms. Wang Meili’s [Sixteen-Year-Old Limited: Seductive Vixen Special Edition]. If you said she wasn’t her biological child, she probably wouldn’t believe it.

“Damn! This is ridiculous! If Mom comes back and sees me like this, she’ll definitely… be very happy, right?”

Lu Yibei muttered to herself bitterly. She could already imagine the unreliable Ms. Wang Meili discovering her son had become a daughter, laughing with delight, generously pulling out her wallet, and taking her to the women’s clothing store at the mall for a crazy shopping spree.

Lu Yibei still remembered how, as a child during the New Year, she would follow Ms. Wang Meili and Ah-Hua out shopping, full of joy, only to end up as the pack mule for the whole day while the two ladies came home with piles of clothes and shoes.

Even Nanling Rao Hua, who was only half a daughter, got that kind of treatment-if it were a real daughter, wouldn’t it be a super double dose?

At this thought, Lu Yibei felt a wave of pain in her head and raised her hand to rub her throbbing brow.

It was as if all the missing little dresses, lipsticks, pretty shoes from the past eighteen years were going to be made up for at once, with a new outfit every day for three hundred sixty-five days a year-this kind of thing…

Lu Yibei believed in Ms. Wang Meili’s character; she was definitely capable of doing it.

The emptiness in the heart of a widow single for nineteen years was unimaginable to most people; otherwise, she wouldn’t have tried to fill her spiritual world by getting so many strange, useless certificates.

“But… before Mom comes back, I should be able to change back, right?” Lu Yibei muttered, reaching up to tug at her own cheek.

Thinking of Ms. Wang Meili still playing with king crabs in Alaska and not coming back to torment her anytime soon, she felt a little more at ease.

She remembered that, in the dream memory, there was a setting: “bathing in the morning sunlight would restore things to normal.”

Maybe tomorrow morning, before sunrise, if she got up and basked in the sun, everything would be fine?

Surely all the other settings wouldn’t work except this one, right? Lu Yibei thought.

“Maybe, turning into this for a while isn’t such a bad thing, maybe…”

Lu Yibei looked up at the figure in the mirror, narrowing her eyes.

An abandoned factory with a huge chimney, and a group of strange figures who had kidnapped Gu Qianqian-her intuition told her that these scenes from her dream were definitely related to the Truth-Seeking Fellowship, and to the method of reaching the real world recorded in the notebook found at BanShan Apartment.

Even Gu Qianqian turning into that ghost-like state, invisible to everyone but her, was all because of what had happened in that factory.

Lu Yibei felt that if those abilities that defied common sense from her dream memory could be used now that her body had changed, it might actually be a good thing.

That way, if she ran into monsters like that crazy old man again while searching for the abandoned factory and the Truth-Seeking Fellowship members, she wouldn’t be so helpless.

At this thought, Lu Yibei looked down at her fair, slender hands, pondered for a moment, then followed the incantation from her dream memory and began to chant softly.

“Desolate wilderness, withered grass, bone remains, fan the spark’s wind…”

As she chanted, she suddenly felt something indescribable come alive inside her, and a crimson flame quickly flickered to life at her fingertips.

Immediately, the flame began to swell at a speed visible to the naked eye, growing larger and larger and larger…

Wait! Wasn’t this the simplest spell formation from her dream memory? Why did it feel so wrong?

Feeling the terrifying heat from the huge fireball at her fingertip, Lu Yibei panicked, her eyes filling with fear. She hurriedly shook her hand, trying to fling off the fireball and stop it from growing.

However, the fireball clung to her fingertip as if glued, refusing to budge, and kept swelling like a balloon.

The blazing, wildly dancing flame seemed to flash a wicked, arrogant grin at her: “Woman! You started this fire, now I’m flying high and can’t stop at all!”

In just a few seconds of her frantic struggle, the crimson fireball at her fingertip had grown large enough to completely block her reflection in the mirror.

And then…

“Boom-!”

The fireball spun from her fingertip, carrying violent energy, and exploded in the bathroom, shaking the whole room as if in an earthquake.

Wall tiles and the vanity mirror shattered, metal panels from the ceiling tore apart, and sharp fragments, like bullets, whirled through the bathroom at high speed on the blast wave.

They struck the walls and ceiling, slashed through the shower curtain, and tore Lu Yibei’s clothes.

A few seconds later.

Lu Yibei, feeling utterly drained, collapsed in the wrecked bathroom, staring blankly at the ceiling.

From the twisted, damaged pipes above, jets of water sprayed down like a torrential rainstorm, soaking her long hair, which clung messily to her face.

Her oversized T-shirt looked as if it had been slashed dozens of times, riddled with finger-sized holes, and after getting wet, it clung to her slender figure, revealing snowy white skin.

Only then did the information about the Spirit Pattern innate skill from her dream memory finally break through the fog and become clear in her mind.

Spirit Pattern innate skill [spell amplification], amplification rate, 0.01 to 53.4 times…

And so, Lu Yibei broke down.

“Stupid thing, why didn’t you say so earlier, why didn’t you say so earlier!? Damn it, if you’d told me, would I have tried it at home?” she muttered, knocking her head and almost crying.

“Now that it’s like this, there’s no way to fix it before Mom comes back, right?”

At this moment, she deeply understood the importance of elders telling children not to play with fire.

She didn’t know if she’d wet the bed tonight, but when Ms. Wang Meili came back, she was definitely going to get beaten to death.

The neighbors in the faculty compound were all warm-hearted people.

With such a commotion at Lu Yibei’s home, and flames shooting over two meters high from the bathroom window, there was no way everyone wouldn’t be concerned.

Soon enough, the door to Lu Yibei’s house was knocked on.

“Bang bang bang-bang bang bang-!”

“Xiao Bei? Are you home? What happened in there? Did… did something explode? Are you alright?”

One wave hadn’t settled before another rose.

Hearing the knocking and Granny Wang’s voice coming from the living room, Lu Yibei froze, her heart leaping into her throat, her mind racing with countless thoughts.

I’m doomed. If I don’t open the door now, judging by all that noise, Granny Wang will definitely call the fire department.

But if I do open the door, and Granny Wang sees a girl she doesn’t recognize, who knows what gossip will spread!

If Granny Wang finds out, all the grannies in the complex will know, and if all the grannies know, Ah-Hua will definitely find out too…

How am I supposed to explain it to Ah-Hua then? Say I’m Lu Yibei, but after a nap, my split personality affected my body and I turned into a young girl?

As Lu Yibei pondered, a sudden flash of inspiration struck her, her panicked eyes instantly regaining composure. She took a deep breath, got up, and headed toward Wang Meili’s bedroom.

Then, she rummaged around for Wang Meili’s bathrobe, threw it on haphazardly, and before shame could creep in, grabbed a facial mask from the vanity and dashed toward the door.

—

Three minutes later, at Lu Yibei’s doorstep.

Granny Wang knocked for a while, and when no one answered, a worried look appeared on her kindly face. She immediately pulled out her old mobile phone, ready to dial the fire emergency number.

Just then, the door to Lu Yibei’s house clicked open.

“Xiao Bei, you finally opened the door, I was just…”

Granny Wang spoke as she looked up at the person behind the door, pausing in surprise when she saw who it was.

Behind the door stood a woman, wrapped in a bathrobe, wearing a facial mask, her facial features somewhat familiar.

“Oh, it’s Auntie Wang? Please, come in and have a seat, come in.” Lu Yibei imitated her mother’s voice and tone.

Hearing the woman speak, Granny Wang breathed a sigh of relief, smiled, and waved her hand, “So Meili’s back? I was wondering who it was! Gave me quite a scare!”

“I won’t come in, I just wanted to ask about your…”

“Ah!” Lu Yibei glanced back toward the bathroom, feigning annoyance, “Isn’t it all that rascal Lu Yibei’s fault?”

“When I left, I noticed the water heater was acting up, told him to get someone to fix it when he had time, but he’s always playing around, never does anything proper!”

“Just now, I finished my shower and came out of the bathroom, and the water heater exploded. Luckily, I was already out, or the consequences would’ve been unimaginable.”

“And since he’s not home right now, when he gets back, I’m going to give him a piece of my mind!” Lu Yibei said fiercely.

As she spoke, relying on years of being scolded and trained, she perfectly mimicked Wang Meili’s every word and gesture.

“This…” Granny Wang glanced around inside Lu Yibei’s home, then gave a wry smile, “Haha, young lads, always playful and forgetful, that’s how they are, don’t be too hard on him.”

“Speaking of which, my two boys were just like that when they were young, they…”

Hearing Granny Wang bring up her two sons, Lu Yibei inwardly groaned.

The elderly folks in the compound were all wonderful-kind, amiable, warm-hearted-but the only headache was that they were extremely chatty.

From Lu Yibei’s past experience, once Granny Wang started on “family stories,” it would last at least two hours.

Wang Meili always handled the elders in the compound with ease, but…

I’m not my mom, I can’t do it! Lu Yibei thought miserably.

—

One hour later.

Lu Yibei collapsed onto the living room sofa, peeled off the now completely dried facial mask, and let out a long sigh.

“That was terrifying…”

Granny Wang was as talkative as ever, going from stories about her sons at eight years old all the way to eighteen, and she still hadn’t run out of things to say.

Considering her youngest son was already forty-eight, Lu Yibei could only use the excuse of fixing the water heater to mercilessly cut Granny Wang off.

“Whew-! Finally over, I can rest a bit.” Lu Yibei muttered, holding her forehead.

However…

Fate always loves to toy with people; good fortune never comes in pairs, and misfortune never comes alone.

Just as she breathed a sigh of relief, her phone rang in the bedroom.

She hurried to the bedroom, picked up the phone, and fell silent when she saw the caller ID.

The call was from Nanling Rao Hua, but she didn’t dare answer.

The ringtone lasted about a minute before fading away. Lu Yibei held her phone for a moment, then sent a message to Nanling Rao Hua.

Lu Yibei: “Ah-Hua, did you need something? I just took a shower and didn’t see your call.”

Nanling Rao Hua: “Hehe, it’s nothing, just wanted to ask-didn’t we agree to go book the graduation dinner restaurant together today? When should we meet up? [Blushing bunny emoji]”

“……”

Did we agree on that the day before yesterday? This…

Probably, maybe, I guess so?

What am I supposed to do looking like this now!

Lu Yibei’s heart tightened as she stared at the phone screen, falling into silence.
