I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

“Bang—-!”

Accompanied by an almost faint-inducing pain, Lu Yibei fell from midair and crashed heavily to the ground, her petite body convulsing and twitching.

“……”

Why? Why would the jacket stab me in the back? Did it somehow pick up some special power trait and start rebelling? Lu Yibei wondered in confusion.

Crimson blood seeped from beneath the jacket, dyeing the blue dress into a deep, profound red.

“Drip… drip…”

Blood dripped onto the ground, colliding with the dark red flesh on the floor, two waves of psychic energy fluctuation clashing and sparking a string of scarlet sparks.

Immediately after, the dark red flesh clinging to the basement walls, like beasts smelling blood, swarmed over.

“Pop—-pop—-pop—-!”

The muffled sounds of flesh bursting echoed continuously in the small underground storeroom. That flesh approached Lu Yibei’s body again and again, only to fail each time and explode apart.

The foul-smelling blood plasma, like clusters of scarlet dahlias, bloomed around Lu Yibei’s body.

Soon, Lu Yibei felt something burrowing into her body, crawling inside her.

It must be that strange flesh, right? This is going to be a huge problem. Lu Yibei thought in terror.

Under Berses’ covert influence and the continuous supply of psychic energy, this flesh, driven by an instinctive greed to replicate power, transitioned into a predatory invasion.

Fearless and relentless!

Once inside Lu Yibei’s body, it unhesitatingly sliced open her blood vessels, tore through muscle, gnawed on bone, coiled around her spine, and pierced through her intestines and stomach.

It carpet-searched for any power it could replicate.

The feeling was like a group of refugees breaking into a lush wasteland, delighted by the bounty, determined to settle down, and so they began a bold transformation to remake the land as they wished.

However, just like a venomous insect injecting neurotoxin into its prey during a hunt–

Throughout the process, Lu Yibei felt no pain at all, only waves of icy, slippery, tingling sensations spreading all over her body.

Soon, she felt her body jolt violently as the flesh rampaged through her chest cavity, bursting from her abdomen into her chest, shredding her lungs.

Sensing the abnormality inside her, Lu Yibei’s eyes widened in terror, instinctively wanting to scream, but as soon as she opened her mouth, a strong metallic taste surged up her throat.

Immediately after, she couldn’t help but cough violently.

“Cough, cough, cough—-!”

With each cough, a pile of shattered viscera and writhing flesh spewed from her mouth, scattering across the floor.

Her lips were stained a vivid crimson by the blood plasma, forming a stark contrast with her increasingly pale face.

[It’s not a big deal, you won’t die. This kind of damage is nothing compared to the destruction caused by the Hundred-Armed Giant’s power.] A voice comforted her in her mind.

Are you kidding me? My lungs are fucking riddled with holes, and you call this no problem?

Does it have to be that half my body is paralyzed and my ass is hanging from a tree for it to be a big deal? Lu Yibei thought furiously.

She used all her strength, but couldn’t draw a single breath into her lungs, as if her chest was filled with cement.

The flesh advanced triumphantly, finally wrapping around her heart like a python, beginning the final and most ruthless strangulation.

Invasion complete, replication begins!

In an instant, Lu Yibei’s body began to convulse violently, a spiraling, high-speed dizziness overwhelming her.

Then, her vision began to blur, shrinking inward into a single point of white light, which gradually dimmed.

A powerful sense of weakness made Lu Yibei feel she was about to die, yet at this moment, she was surprisingly unafraid.

[It shouldn’t have invaded the heart. It… has violated a taboo.] As if in a hallucination, such words flashed through Lu Yibei’s mind.

So, when the light before her eyes was extinguished like a candle snuffed by the wind and her vision plunged into darkness, she heard the violent beating of her heart in her chest.

As if something had been awakened.

At first, it was just a faint thump, but soon it grew more and more intense.

“Thump-thump—-thump-thump—-!”

The sound from within her tore through the silence, echoing in Lu Yibei’s ears, surging like mighty rivers.

A chilling aura, carrying the killing intent of a harsh winter, spread from the depths of her heart, gradually expanding through her entire body, as if to freeze all the flesh rampaging inside her.

Next, her eyes began to heat up, as if ignited, erupting with a volcanic, wild power, as if to burn the invaders to ashes.

Perhaps because some of the power was diverted to deal with those vile “parasites” inside her, the suppressed power of the Hundred-Armed Giant was also partially released, a few dazzling silver arcs of electricity bursting forth, surging along her blood vessels, triggering violent explosions along the way.

In the end, even the long-dormant Eifrit Spirit Pattern seized the chaos to rise, beginning to plunder the psychic energy contained in the flesh.

Finally, all the powers converged, forming a raging torrent, sweeping all before it.

That flesh, after all, was not the entity of the Beast of Inheritance. Under the siege of the chaotic powers within Lu Yibei, it was gradually suppressed and ultimately perished…

The wind and snow on the small town grew suddenly fierce.

Inside the old yet tidy little inn, the lights were bright.

A woman sat upright at the desk, staring intently at the Polaroid photo on the table, its image shifting constantly. After a long while, the corners of her mouth lifted slightly, and she let out a long breath.

“I knew it! That kid has always been healthy since she was little. Tried three times and still couldn’t get rid of her. How could she possibly be hurt by some unknown ghostly thing?” the woman waved her hand as she spoke.

However, though her words were nonchalant, her body was very honest.

As she spoke, she straightened her back and examined the ever-changing image in the photo even more seriously.

“But… why are there so many messy powers inside this kid?”

The powers and energies within Lu Yibei were truly chaotic and far too complex, so much so that even the well-traveled Ms. Wang Meili couldn’t help but sigh, “Damn, this is just too bizarre!”

Lu Yibei’s body was practically a war-torn nation, with many factions rising up, each occupying their own territory, all wanting to destroy the others, yet helpless to do so, forced into a temporary and delicate balance.

But precisely because of this, when flesh carrying malicious power entered her body and tried to copy her powers, all the powers and energies would set aside their disputes and unite against the outside threat.

It was like an apartment shared by three monster-level thugs and a sturdy man. Normally, their relationships weren’t great, but they could barely get along, spending their days eating, sleeping, and bullying the sturdy man.

Then one day, a despicable thief broke in to steal, and as soon as he climbed through the window, he saw the three thugs fiddling with rocket launchers, all giving him a friendly smile.

What happened next was extremely bloody and violent–any parents watching with their kids would be scared half to death.

Even the usually meek fitness enthusiast took the chance, while the thief was being beaten, to run up and land a side kick.

“Silly child, even if they’re all good things, you can’t just absorb everything into your body! Aren’t you afraid of exploding? How does that little body of yours even…”

Ms. Wang Meili propped her chin in her hands, pondering for a long time how Lu Yibei’s body could bear such a burden at her age, and finally came to a conclusion.

Of course, it’s because she inherited my excellent genes!

That’s right, that’s it!

Absolutely nothing to do with that dog man Lu Ming–he just did a bit of manual labor. Wang Meili was very sure.

Though his work… was outstanding.

After a long while.

When the image on the photo finally cleared and froze on the scene of the girl sleeping soundly, Wang Meili let out a long sigh of relief, stretched, yawned, and turned to head toward the bedroom.

“Ha–eh! Early to bed and early to rise, exercise, in two more days I should be able to get my license…”

——–

Even without a familiars’ mark or any other contract binding, the jacket had never thought of hurting Lu Yibei.

How could it possibly harm its dearest Lady Witch?

But those “little bugs” clinging to it made it lose control.

If it struggled even a little, the dark red flesh attached to its body would corrode into large patches of festering wounds, bringing unbearable pain.

Watching Lu Yibei collapse, her breath growing weaker, all it could do was wriggle anxiously and silently cheer her on.

What else could it do?

When you can’t do anything, all you can do is cheer from the sidelines, right?

Come on! Big sister in the long dress!

(ง･`д･´)ง

……

The jacket cheered for Lu Yibei with all its might in its heart, encouraging her, and as it kept wriggling, the blood from Lu Yibei that stained its body gradually seeped deeper, reaching its haunting core entity, causing its psychic energy fluctuation to begin to change ever so slightly.

Finally, after accumulating enough quantitative change, its haunting core entity began to transform, psychic energy fluctuation rising rapidly.

Complex flame-like patterns appeared on its back, a fervent light ignited, erupting from the deepest part of its shell, engulfing it from the inside out.

This was a purification, and also an advancement.

The psychic energy-drawn turbulence surged within it, and wherever it passed, those hateful “little bugs” were routed, letting out waves of miserable screams.

The situation reversed–the prey became the hunter.

Next, its advancing haunting core entity grew restless, hungrily and greedily devouring the shattered flesh of the Beast of Inheritance.

It nourished its haunting core entity with psychic energy, and used the scraps of flesh to repair its damaged body.

Then.

Some similar power traits between the two, in this process, gradually completed a subtle fusion…

“Mm… mm…”

Lu Yibei woke from her deep sleep, a wave of intense dizziness washing over her, making her involuntarily let out a soft nasal sound.

She opened her eyes to utter darkness, the stale air filled with the suffocating stench left behind after the Beast of Inheritance’s flesh and blood had decayed.

For a moment, Lu Yibei felt as if she’d been thrown into a cellar used for making pickled goods, except what was being pickled here were rotting corpses.

Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?

After subconsciously asking herself the three questions of the soul, Lu Yibei’s mind gradually cleared, and she finally realized her situation.

I’m Lu Yibei, in the underground warehouse of the Complex Building at the West City lime kiln, doing…

“Damn! I’m actually not dead?”

Driven by the excitement of surviving a disaster, Lu Yibei couldn’t help but curse, her hands quickly patting herself all over. After confirming she hadn’t lost any limbs, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

“Heh, I knew it, it’s not a big deal, I can’t die. Compared to that so-called Giant’s power, this is nothing.”

She muttered as if comforting herself, and immediately felt a strange sensation on her body.

The jacket began to wriggle gently, like a kitten nuzzling its owner, raising its collar and affectionately rubbing against Lu Yibei’s cheek.

Lady Witch, snuggle snuggle!
