Chapter 463: Emissaries from the Harold Family

Ethan’s smile grew wider, a shine appearing in his eyes. ”You will see the results within five days,” he said, his voice was steady and filled with absolute certainty.

A moment later, his expression changed. The friendly look faded, and his eyes sharpened as if he had just noticed something interesting. A playful smile curved at the corner of his lips.

”It looks like we have some unexpected guests,” he said softly, tilting his head as though he were listening to something far away. ”We should go and give them a proper welcome.”

James raised a brow but followed him without asking questions.

When they stepped into the main hall, the atmosphere felt tense and heavy.

Drek was standing there with his head lowered so much that his chin was almost touching his chest. In front of him stood two men who carried themselves as if they owned the place. Their posture, their expressions, even the way they breathed made it clear that they believed everyone around them existed to serve them.

Kane stood there calmly. He looked to be around forty years old, with lifeless eyes that held no warmth at all. He was wearing a black suit that seemed to swallow the light around him. Beside him stood Lucas, younger and clearly more hotheaded. He was dressed in a spotless white suit that sharply contrasted with the violence in his expression. In his hand, he held a gun, and its dark muzzle was pressed firmly against Drek’s temple.

”Why have you stopped answering our calls?” Kane asked in a quiet voice. Even though he was not speaking loudly, his words carried a heavy pressure. ”And why have you stopped delivering the tribute? I have reports that the beggers of your gang aren’t going out anymore. I would like an explanation.”

Lucas smirked when he saw the fear on Drek’s face. His finger rested casually on the trigger. ”My big brother just asked you something,” he sneered. ”Are you planning to die today? Or are you just too stupid to respond?”

From the shadows near the entrance, Ethan watched everything with mild curiosity. He did not step in. He wanted to see how Drek would react under this kind of pressure. He needed to know whether the loyalty he had planted had truly grown roots.

Drek’s hands were shaking badly. His whole body trembled. But after a few seconds, he forced himself to straighten up. Slowly, he lifted his head and met Kane’s cold gaze directly. His voice trembled at first, but he managed to keep it clear.

”I do not want to work under the Harold family anymore,” Drek said. ”And I am not the only one. Everyone in this gang feels the same way. We will not answer to you again. Not now, and not in the future.”

The hall went completely silent.

Lucas stared at him in disbelief, his mouth slightly open. Even Kane’s calm expression showed the faintest flicker of surprise before it shifted into something colder, almost amused.

”Is that so?” Kane asked softly. His voice became even lower, almost gentle, but it carried the promise of violence. ”Have you truly thought this through? Do you understand what it means to betray the Harold family? This is not simply a resignation. It is a death sentence. You are choosing suicide. Are you still willing to continue with this foolish decision?”

Drek could feel the threat clearly. It was as if invisible hands were tightening around his throat. The air felt heavy, difficult to breathe. Even so, he did not look away.

”Yes,” he said firmly.

In his mind, he was making a comparison. Kane was terrifying. He was known in the underworld as a ruthless enforcer who had ended many lives. To ordinary people, he was a demon. But Drek had stood in front of Ethan. He had seen something far deeper and far more terrifying. Compared to the abyss he had glimpsed in Ethan, Kane felt small. Almost insignificant.

Ethan watched this exchange with quiet satisfaction. He leaned closer to James and spoke in a low voice.

”James, that man in black is a semi martial artist, right? He has not broken through to become a Force Master yet, but his killing intent is strong. He has definitely taken many lives.”

James nodded slightly. ”You are correct. I know him. His name is Kane. He has some reputation in lower underworld circles. He has trained in assassination techniques that mix ninjutsu with modern combat methods. He is very fast. An ordinary person would not even have time to blink before he was dead. There is a reason people call him a demon.”

”Go and handle him,” Ethan said calmly.

James turned and stared at him. ”Excuse me? And why exactly should I do that?” His expression darkened. ”I am not one of your street thugs. You cannot order me around. Have you forgotten that?”

Ethan smiled slowly. ”If you deal with him cleanly and efficiently, I will give you an extra pill. You can consider it a bonus.”

James looked at him for a few seconds, frustration visible in his eyes. ”You really are shameless,” he muttered. Then he looked back at Kane, his body slowly tensing.

”If you fail to deliver those pills in five days, Ethan,” James said quietly, ”I will involve my family. Even if I cannot defeat you myself, they will find a way. Do not test me.”

With that, he stepped forward.

At that exact moment, Kane moved.

A small, razor sharp knife appeared in his hand. His movement was smooth and practiced. He aimed directly for Drek’s throat, intending to end his life in one clean motion.

But before the blade could reach its target, a hand appeared and grabbed his wrist.

The grip was unbelievably strong, like steel locking into place. The knife stopped just an inch away from Drek’s neck, as if it had hit an invisible wall.

For the first time, Kane’s eyes widened slightly. In all his years of killing, no one had ever intercepted his attack so easily.

James looked at him calmly, almost bored.

”Kane,” he said, his voicevoice was steady and authoritative. ”It would be wise for you to leave now. When you return to the Harold family, deliver a message for me. Tell them not to come after the Black Bull Gang again. They may believe they are powerful, but they are still a small fish in a pond they do not understand. If they continue, they will not be able to handle the consequences.”

Lucas completely lost his composure.

”What did you just say?” he shouted angrily.

Without thinking, he raised his gun and fired directly at James’s head.

The gunshot echoed loudly through the hall.

A cruel smile appeared on Lucas’s face. ”You should think carefully before speaking about the Harold family like that,” he sneered.

Lucas’s proud smile did not last even a second. It slowly twisted into pure horror.

The bullet, a small piece of metal that had been traveling faster than the eye could properly track, was no longer moving. It was frozen in midair. It was trapped neatly between two of James’s fingers.

James had simply lifted his hand and caught it.

Force Masters were on a completely different level compared to ordinary fighters. They did not just rely on physical strength. Their real advantage came from their ability to control and use something known as force, which was an internal energy that enhanced everything they did. With it, they could learn powerful techniques and push their bodies far beyond normal human limits. That was the reason they were feared throughout the land.

James had a base strength of around 1.2 tonnes. Even with that level of strength, he should not have been able to stop a high speed bullet with his bare hand. The impact alone should have torn through flesh and bone.

However, he had quietly used his force at the exact moment of contact. The energy had wrapped around his fingers and slowed the bullet down just enough for him to catch it safely. The movement had been so subtle that most people in the room had not even realized what he had done.

To James, it had been as easy as catching a softly thrown baseball.
