The Snake God with SSS Rank Evolution System

Adam’s lips curved into a faint smile as Isolde’s words settled over them. ”Of course dragons have a lot of energy,” he said, glancing at Ignis who was still bouncing ahead with renewed vigor. ”Their aura is constantly radiating. It takes a lot of fuel to maintain that kind of presence.” He paused, a dry note entering his voice. ”Especially when they eat as much as she does.”

Ignis looked back, flames flickering indignantly. ”Hey! I heard that! And it’s not my fault! Fighting makes me hungry!”

”You’re always hungry,” Lilith murmured, watching Ignis with quiet amusement.

Before Ignis could retort, the ground beneath them shuddered.

A low, deep rumble echoed through the canyon, vibrating up through the soles of their boots. Small cracks spider-webbed across the stone floor, and dust rained from the jagged cliffs above.

Adam’s hand shot up, signaling everyone to stop. His crimson eyes swept the area, Hunter’s Tri-Sense pushing outward despite the oppressive interference of the Wasteland.

”Everyone stay still,” he said quietly.

The trembling intensified. Loose rocks skittered down the canyon walls, and the mist around them swirled erratically, as if disturbed by something massive moving just out of sight.

Ignis’s flames flickered nervously. ”Is it an earthquake?”

”No,” Isolde said, her voice low and tight. Her Crimson Blossom Crown pulsed rapidly, the flower at its peak blooming wider as if sensing danger. ”This is different. Something is moving beneath us.”

Azrynn’s face paled. Her hand tightened on her bow. ”The earth itself is shifting. This isn’t natural. The Wasteland is... changing.”

Adam’s gaze dropped to the Compass of Desire in his hand. The needle was no longer pointing steadily forward. It spun wildly for a moment, then snapped to a new direction, not deeper into the Wasteland, but sharply to the left, toward a narrow crevice in the canyon wall.

”The compass,” Adam said, his voice sharp. ”It’s pointing somewhere else.”

Lilith moved closer, her crimson eyes fixed on the spinning needle. ”Is it malfunctioning?”

”No.” Adam shook his head, watching as the needle finally steadied, pointing unwaveringly toward the crevice. ”It’s pointing to what we desire most. Whatever that is... it’s not straight ahead anymore.”

Another tremor rocked the ground, stronger this time. A large crack split the earth a few meters to their right, revealing a dark, yawning chasm that hadn’t been there moments before. Cold air rushed up from the depths, carrying a faint, acrid smell that reminded Adam of ozone and old blood.

”We need to move,” Isolde urged, her voice tight. ”This whole area is destabilizing.”

Azrynn nodded, already backing toward the crevice. ”The compass is our guide. We should follow it before the path closes.”

Adam didn’t argue. He turned and led the group toward the crevice, the Compass of Desire held before him like a lantern in the dark. The ground continued to shake as they moved, the tremors growing more violent with each step.

The crevice was narrow, barely wide enough for them to pass single file. Its walls were smooth, almost polished, as if carved by water or wind over countless centuries. The mist that had followed them through the Wasteland seemed thinner here, replaced by a strange, cool stillness.

Adam entered first, the compass needle still pointing forward, deeper into the darkness. Lilith followed close behind, her silver threads spread wide to sense any danger. Ignis came next, her flames casting flickering shadows on the smooth stone walls. Isolde followed, her Crimson Blossom Crown glowing faintly, and Azrynn brought up the rear, bow in hand, yellow eyes scanning the darkness behind them.

The tremors faded as they moved deeper into the crevice. The ground steadied. The oppressive weight of the Wasteland seemed to lift slightly, replaced by a heavy silence.

Adam’s boots echoed on the cracked stone floor as he stepped through the narrow entrance, the Compass of Desire held before him. The needle had stopped spinning. It pointed straight ahead, unwavering, toward the far end of the chamber.

”What is this place?” Ignis whispered, her flames casting dancing shadows across the walls.

It had once been a library.

The walls were lined with shelves, row after row of them, stretching up toward a ceiling lost in darkness. But the shelves were empty. Broken. Charred. The remains of countless books littered the floor, their pages reduced to ash and brittle fragments that crumbled at the slightest touch.

Some shelves had collapsed entirely, their wood rotted and sagging, spilling the last remnants of their contents onto the stone. Others stood crooked, leaning against each other like wounded soldiers.

The air smelled of old smoke, dust, and decay.

Azrynn’s voice was hushed, almost reverent. ”This must have been... a great repository of knowledge, once.”

”Once,” Lilith agreed, her silver threads probing the debris. ”Whatever happened here was violent. Fire. Collapse. And then... centuries of neglect.”

Isolde moved to one of the fallen shelves, crouching to examine a partially intact book. The cover was cracked, the pages yellowed and brittle. When she tried to open it, the spine crumbled in her hands, and the pages scattered into dust.

”Useless,” she said, her voice flat. ”Nothing readable remains.”

Adam’s crimson eyes swept the chamber, his Hunter’s Tri-Sense pushing outward. No heartbeats. No movement. Just the stillness of a place long dead.

”The compass brought us here,” he said, holding up the artifact. Its needle still pointed forward, toward the far end of the chamber where the shadows were thickest.

Ignis moved closer to Adam, her flames flickering nervously. ”Why? There’s nothing here but dust and broken books.”

”Maybe there is.”

Adam walked toward the far end, his footsteps echoing in the silence. The others followed, their eyes scanning the darkness.

At the end of the chamber, set into the wall, was a massive door.

It was made of metal, dark and rusted, but still intact. Symbols were carved into its surface, the same serpent-eating-its-tail motif they had seen throughout the Loom of Fate. The Ouroboros. The symbols pulsed faintly, barely visible, as if whatever power had once sustained them was long since drained.

Azrynn’s eyes widened. ”This door... it’s like the one at the temple.”

Adam reached out, his fingers brushing the cold metal. The symbols flickered at his touch, glowing a little brighter.

”The compass wants us to go through it,” he said quietly.

Lilith studied the door, her crimson eyes narrowing. ”It’s locked. Sealed by the same ancient magic that protects the Loom.”

”Can you open it?”

Lilith’s threads probed the edges of the door, searching for a seam, a weakness, anything. The symbols flared, pushing back against her threads.

”No,” she admitted, a flicker of frustration crossing her features. ”Not without the key.”

Isolde’s Crimson Blossom Crown pulsed. She turned, her eyes scanning the ruined library.

”There might be something here.”

Azrynn nodded. ”I’ll search the left side.”

”I’ll take the right,” Ignis offered, already moving toward a collapsed shelf.

Lilith remained by the door, her threads still probing, while Adam stood in the center of the chamber, his crimson eyes sweeping the destruction.
