Ling Tian Sword God

Chapter 789: Chapter 787: Ranking in Historical Records _1

”Those ranked within the top ten can all be considered exceptional talents. Taibai Sword Immortal is a legendary figure, the Empress is an unparalleled figure in today’s world, and the rest are all top-notch geniuses.”

Shen Qianlang gazed intensely at the Ten Thousand Years Green History Wall; just looking at these names made his blood boil with excitement.

Ling Chen nodded. On this Green History Wall, he saw Tang Yutong’s name. She was ranked seventy-eighth, a relatively low position.

Of course, there are no absolutes. The possibility of an unrivaled genius not having left their name on the Green History Wall could not be ruled out.

Ling Chen then asked, ”What are the rules for leaving your name in history?”

”The Ten Thousand Years Green History Wall itself is a legendary Treasure. You just need to infuse your Mental Power into it. An independent Will Projection, equivalent to your own strength, will then form in the spiritual world inside the wall. Your opponent will be a will entity of equal strength.”

”Defeating an opponent takes you to the next level, where the difficulty doubles, and so on. Remember, don’t be overconfident. If your Will Projection is injured, you’ll subconsciously think you’ve been injured. Your body will vividly feel the pain; the more severe the injuries to your Will Projection, the greater the pain in your body. It’s said that some have even experienced their physical bodies perishing as a result,” Shen Qianlang explained in detail to Ling Chen.

”The Green History Wall has a total of nine barriers. If you want to imprint your name on it, you must reach at least the fifth barrier. The longer you hold out on the fifth barrier, the greater your chances of success.”

As he spoke, Shen Qianlang sighed. ”It isn’t too difficult for top-notch geniuses to leave their names behind. However, those ranked near the top are all monsters, especially the first and second on the list who had cleared all nine barriers outright—a feat so audacious it was universally shocking.”

”Brother Shen, is it difficult to pass the barriers?” Ling Yin asked curiously.

Shen Qianlang nodded and said, ”With each barrier, the difficulty doubles. Your opponent’s strength might double, or there might be two opponents. So, do you think it’s difficult?”

”The Ten Thousand Years Green History Wall tests your on-the-spot fighting ability, explosive power, mental toughness, and potential when pushed to the limit. Cultivation and strength have some influence, but it’s minimal. After all, the Will Projection’s strength inside the wall is equivalent to yours—the stronger you are, the stronger it is.”

”Passing all nine barriers is indeed quite difficult.”

Ling Chen understood Shen Qianlang’s meaning. The ability to leave one’s name on the wall tested individual aptitude; it didn’t have much to do with Cultivation or strength. Of course, as Shen Qianlang mentioned, while the influence of the latter two was greatly reduced, they still had some effect. For instance, higher strength could lead to more insights and varied combat styles, indirectly improving aptitude.

”I wonder what my rank will be,” Ling Yin said, laughing cheekily.

”That’s hard to say.” Ling Chen stroked his chin. Ling Yin’s talent is an unknown factor. Even I can’t gauge how high she’ll rank; it’s just as uncertain.

A frail young man said, ”’Dragon Slayer Sword’ Ye Ming is about to start the test. He’s quite famous among the younger generation, ranked thirty-third on the Hidden Dragon List. I wonder if he can succeed in breaking into the ranks today, and how high his aptitude will be ranked?”

”This time, he should be able to succeed. After all, the third time’s the charm. Ye Ming has already gained plenty of experience from his previous two failed attempts. I’m sure he’s well-prepared to succeed this time,” another young elite spoke.

Aptitude and strength are two different things. High aptitude doesn’t necessarily mean high current strength, and high strength doesn’t guarantee high aptitude. Someone with high aptitude still needs time to enhance their strength. Conversely, those with high strength may have had ample time, but their aptitude could be their Achilles’ heel, allowing those with higher aptitude to gradually catch up.

Ye Ming’s eyes grew more intense. It was time for him to begin his attempt.

Forming a Will Projection in the spiritual world of the Green History Wall, Ye Ming wielded his sword and charged forward.

KILL!

In the silent spiritual world, Ye Ming passed four barriers and was now on the fifth. This level featured sixteen warriors, each with strength comparable to his own. Fortunately, their coordination wasn’t perfect. Indeed, if they were highly coordinated, it would be impossible to pass, even for the likes of Taibai Sword Immortal or Empress Yunyao.

Outside the Green History Wall, when Ye Ming’s Will Projection suffered minor injuries, his physical body immediately grunted in pain.

But when he reached the sixth barrier, the opposing will entities instantly multiplied to thirty-two. Ye Ming’s Will Projection was defeated in a moment.

TERRIFYING!

Opening his eyes, Ye Ming felt some illusory internal injuries. These were subconsciously self-inflicted.

He looked up at the Green History ranking, and a smile appeared on his face.

Ye Ming, Ninety-eighth.

Although I was previously somewhat known in the southern regions, I only made a modest name for myself on the Hidden Dragon List, which only proved my strength reached a first-class level. But now, I’ve proven my aptitude is also first-class! This ranking is very high; I’m quite satisfied with it.

HISS! He actually ranked ninety-eighth!

”Terrifying. Among those who took the test this year, Ye Ming’s aptitude could rank in the top ten.”

Some people in the crowd gasped. The higher the rank, the greater the difficulty. It also indicated a stronger ability to fight opponents beyond one’s level. The ”Dragon Slayer Sword,” Ye Ming, truly deserved his title.

”Congratulations, Brother Ye!” Dong Yaotian and Yuwen Jie both congratulated Ye Ming with a cupped-fist salute.

”It’s our turn.” Shen Qianlang looked at Ling Chen and Ling Yin.

”Go ahead. Don’t disappoint me,” Ling Chen gestured to Ling Yin.

”I guess I should be at least in the top twenty; otherwise, it would be too pathetic,” Ling Yin said with a serious expression.

”Top twenty?” Nearby, Shen Qianlang swallowed hard. This girl sure dares to make such a claim! This is the True Dragon Pavilion! Those who come here all hold respected positions in the Southern Martial World. If Ling Yin’s words were overheard, they’d surely be taken as a joke!

And unfortunately, someone did overhear.

”Haha, this is simply hilarious! Top twenty? A little slip of a girl like you who hasn’t even fully matured yet?” a very piercing voice interjected. The speaker was a young man in yellow clothes, Yuwen Jie’s junior martial brother.

”Ignorant and arrogant! It seems the True Dragon Pavilion needs to properly restrict its visitors. Otherwise, if any riffraff are allowed in, it makes the place completely chaotic!” The speaker was another young man in blue, Dong Yaotian’s junior martial brother.

Both of them were also here to leave their names; they had just failed to do so. Naturally, they couldn’t resist mocking Ling Yin after hearing her boasts.

”Never mind. She’s young and here for the first time; it’s inevitable she’s a bit arrogant. Once she sees more of the world, she’ll naturally understand her place,” the speaker was Dong Yaotian himself. He glanced at Ling Yin, Ling Chen, and Shen Qianlang briefly before looking away, disdain clear in his eyes.

Without a doubt, in his eyes, Ling Yin was just a country bumpkin who knew nothing. She didn’t understand what it meant to have her name on the Green History Wall.
