Chapter 656: Chapter 654 Demon-Burying Cave_1

In that case, if I want the Longevity Fruit, I must go into the Demon-Burying Cave, Ling Chen thought, a thoughtful look on his face.

”Correct. That’s the only way I can think of,” Wutugu nodded.

”Alright then, Clan Leader, please tell me the location of the Demon-Burying Cave. Time is of the essence; I must go and retrieve the Longevity Fruit immediately.” Ling Chen stood up.

”Once you enter the Demon-Burying Cave, life and death are decided by fate.” Wutugu also stood up, his expression stern. ”Since you’ve made up your mind, come with me.”

”Thank you, Clan Leader.” Ling Chen’s eyes flickered slightly as he followed.

「A thousand miles south of the Barbarian Village.」

The land was desolate and uninhabited for hundreds of miles. The ground was a deep black, devoid of any vitality.

Ling Chen and Wutugu rode a Flying Barbarian Beast, arriving in the sky above this region.

A faint layer of black mist permeated the air, exuding an eerie pulsation that made one’s heart palpitate.

Ling Chen gazed into the distance. Plumes of black smoke were slowly rising there. Below them, a massive hole, dozens of meters in diameter and resembling a Sky Pit, came into view.

Is that the Demon-Burying Cave? Ling Chen’s eyes narrowed slightly. From the massive hole, violent black storms churned out ceaselessly. Merely brushing against them sent a bone-chilling cold through him.

However, beyond the cold, Ling Chen detected something else—a subtle presence, like a worm, silently trying to burrow into his body.

PFFT!

Circulating his True Qi to disperse the nameless corrosive force, Ling Chen was inwardly shocked. If I hadn’t detected it in time, that force might have infiltrated my body unnoticed, potentially planting hidden dangers.

This place is truly treacherous, Ling Chen thought, steeling himself. He couldn’t afford any carelessness here.

”Ahead is the Demon-Burying Cave. This is as far as I can take you,” Wutugu said, pointing to the bottomless abyss of the entrance.

Even he, the Clan Leader of the Barbarian Tribe, dared not set foot in this place.

”This is the Barbarian Pearl, a Treasure of mine. Keep it on you; it can resist the baleful aura of the Demon-Burying Cave to some extent.” Wutugu flipped his hand, revealing a black Treasure Pearl, and passed it to Ling Chen.

”After you enter the Demon-Burying Cave, I will go to the Barbaric Temple to see the High Priest. You don’t need to worry too much about the Deer Reviving Grass. As long as you can obtain the Longevity Fruit, there shouldn’t be any major issues,” Wutugu stated.

”Then I shall entrust the matters that follow to you, Clan Leader.” Ling Chen did not demur. He accepted the Barbarian Pearl, cupped his hands in a salute to Wutugu, and then, without any hesitation, turned and shot towards the Demon-Burying Cave.

Braving the bone-chilling demonic wind, Ling Chen left an afterimage and vanished into the cave entrance.

I hope he can make it out alive, Wutugu thought, shaking his head. The Demon-Burying Cave was the kind of place that was easy to enter but difficult to leave. The probability of perishing within was very high.

In his eyes, Ling Chen was a rare talent, a prodigy even. It would be a great pity if he were to die in the Demon-Burying Cave.

However, he now needed to make a trip to the Barbaric Temple. Since Ling Chen had helped Nina improve her strength, he naturally had to do his best to help Ling Chen achieve his goal, considering it a repayment for the favor.

If Ling Chen truly managed to return with the Longevity Fruit, convincing that old fellow, the High Priest, shouldn’t be too difficult.

Activating his True Qi, Wutugu steered his mount, an Exotic Beast. With a turn, he rapidly sped away, quickly vanishing over the horizon.

「Inside the Demon-Burying Cave.」

Only after descending several hundred meters into the cavern did Ling Chen’s feet finally touch solid ground. Boundless darkness consumed his vision, accompanied only by the increasingly mournful howl of the spectral wind.

Steeling his nerves, Ling Chen cautiously ventured deeper into the cave.

「Two hours later.」

The ancient cave grew progressively wider the further he went, but the surrounding darkness also intensified.

Ling Chen retrieved a Ye Mingzhu from his Heavenly Mansion Ring. Instantly, a soft glow illuminated the surrounding darkness.

The uneven ground was littered with decaying bones, both human and beast. Under the faint light, the massive cave walls of hard Rock revealed countless dense, crisscrossing fissures, as if they had been violently ripped apart—a shocking sight.

WHOOOO...

Suddenly, a long, inexplicable howl reverberated through the cave. The ancient stone walls, which had stood for millennia, began to tremble, sending rocks and debris cascading down.

The whistling, mournful spectral wind now sounded like desperate, heavy gasps.

Deep within the cave, Ling Chen thought he saw a faint light flickering. No sound emanated from the depths of that glow, only an unsteady light that made his shadow flicker in and out of existence.

What was that sound? Ling Chen frowned. The howl exuded an intensely evil aura, making even his soul tremble violently and instilling in him an unprecedented sense of dread.

Ling Chen’s white robes rustled sharply in the intense spectral wind.

What exactly is in this cave? Ling Chen took a deep breath. However, he did not hesitate for long before continuing towards the source of the faint light.

An expansive, flat area abruptly came into view. It was starkly different from the outer sections of the cave; most of the sturdy stone walls here were undamaged. The ground, however, was strewn with enormous skeletons, mostly intact. A quick count revealed eighteen of them.

These eighteen skeletons, each distinct and emitting a dense black aura, were arranged in a rough circle at varying distances, all facing inward as if guarding something. Their empty, black eye sockets seemed to hold an icy gaze.

As Ling Chen suddenly appeared and began to approach this strange circle, a chilling wind swept through, accompanied by a teeth-grating CLATTERING sound. Astonishingly, several of the skulls began to turn, slowly rotating to fix their empty gazes on Ling Chen.

CREAK! CREAK!

Before Ling Chen’s astonished eyes, all eighteen skeletons eerily swayed and began to rise to their feet.

Truly eerie, Ling Chen thought, swallowing hard. He had never witnessed such a bizarre scene. Even the Elixir Corpses he had encountered in the Tienzong Ruins were not as unsettling as these skeletons.

WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

The skeletal figures were astonishingly swift. They lunged through the air at a speed no less than that of typical top Great Master Level Powerhouses, perhaps even faster, closing in on Ling Chen in the blink of an eye.

Sharp, bony claws, seemingly oozing a corrosive black liquid, tore through the air, slashing at Ling Chen simultaneously from all directions.

”Get lost!” Ling Chen unsheathed his Thunder Shadow Sword and slammed it fiercely into the ground. Instantly, a furious gale erupted in a circular wave, sending all the skeletons flying and scattering them as a shower of white bones.
