Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 201: Interference

A bottomless aura surged from deep within the imperial palace and grew increasingly powerful.

Although neither Liora nor the Beast Emperor could see its owner, it was pretty apparent who this aura belonged to.

”The Founding Emperor!”, the Beast Emperor gnashed its teeth and exclaimed, the hatred in its voice clear.

But at the same time, a faint excitement flashed in its mostly emotionless eyes.

It became excited at the thought of fighting against its old rival one more time. Especially when it thought that this would likely be the final battle between them.

However, just when the Beast Emperor’s fighting intent was growing stronger, and it looked ready to rush towards the capital, the rising aura in the imperial palace suddenly retreated.

It was as if its owner had been erased from existence, or had unknowingly been wiped out by an invisible force.

The fact that the Founding Emperor did not emerge did not lessen the Beast Emperor’s anger.

Instead, it made it even more furious.

”Damn it! Damn the Founding Emperor! He is clearly trying to humiliate me!”, the Beast Emperor whispered furiously, speaking like an angry girlfriend whose text messages had been ignored by their significant other.

Liora did not have the time to interrupt.

Under her strange gaze, the Beast Emperor decided to take action.

Life Force poured out of its illusory body and gathered in the air in front of it before transforming into a pair of giant human arms.

The arms flexed, and the hands reached out, grabbing a dozen human Kings of Knights standing below like a child grabbing its toys.

Then, the fists clenched, planning to crush these people alive and turn them into minced meat.

”Fine! If you don’t show up, I’m going to slaughter all your subordinates!”, the Beast Emperor’s gnashing voice echoed as a trace of madness flashed across its eyes.

But just when it seemed that the Kings of Knights would die before the war even started, becoming a victim in the two people’s strange relationship, another powerful aura rose from the capital.

This time, it didn’t originate from the imperial palace but from the city’s outskirts.

A golden light flickered and spread from there as its center, and the next moment, an old man with long hair appeared in the blue sky.

Wearing a long white robe embroidered with golden threads, he grasped a scepter in his right hand, which he pointed towards Liora and the Beast Emperor’s direction.

Instantly, a sword materialized in front of the human Kings of Knights. With a clang, it moved towards the giant hands and slashed at them as if an invisible Knight was attacking.

The space trembled at the point of their collision.

Before the Beast Emperor could react, countless cracks formed on the arms’ surface before they shattered.

The Kings of Knights trapped within them escaped their clutches, falling to the ground and quickly regaining their balance.

From the moment the Founding Emperor’s aura first appeared to the confrontation between the Beast Emperor and the old man, less than a second had gone by.

But for creatures like Liora, a few seconds was already a long time.

At the very least, it was enough for her to judge the situation.

Although the capital was far away from the border, her piercing gaze was able to pass through the various landscapes and many obstacles between them, accurately landing on the capital.

Or to be more accurate, it landed on the old man in the sky and his holy scepter.

Sensing the familiar aura he subconsciously emanated and recalling the words of Diana, her prisoner, Liora instantly recognized this man’s identity.

”The Pope of the Holy Church...”, she whispered, and her words not only surprised the Beast Emperor, but also the human Kings of Knights.

After all, the Holy Church was an infamous cult that should have been scorned by the common people and hunted down by the Royal Family.

Why did its Pope appear here? At such a point in time, nevertheless?

Although everyone was surprised, Liora quickly understood.

”That’s right. Even though the Holy Church is also a cult, it’s completely different from the evil Necronomicon Sect. Their members are indeed overbearing, but it’s a fact that, most of the time, they act on the side of justice.”

”In fact, if it were not for their rivalry with the Royal Family, the Holy Church would have been regarded as a righteous force.”, she analyzed silently.

Therefore, it made sense that the Pope of the Holy Church chose to take action at this time and save the human Kings of Knights.

Unfortunately, the other people did not see the situation as clearly as she did.

Seeing that its attack had been neutralized and that its prey had slipped away, the Beast Emperor sneered.

It controlled its Life Force and launched another attack, this time without holding back at all.

The difference was immediately displayed. The blow’s momentum was many times more powerful than before.

But the Pope did not back down.

Although his face turned stern, he pointed with the scepter once again.

Holy light gathered at its tip and shot out in the form of countless golden arrows.

Seemingly teleporting, the many arrows struck the newly-created arms at an incredible speed.

Since the Beast Emperor had taken action with its full power, defending against its blow was now far more difficult.

But in the end, when the final arrow landed on the gigantic arms, it caused them to crack and shatter, transforming back into pure, uncontrollable energy.

”Another being that has gone very far in the Lesser Devil stage...”, Liora realized, silently estimating the Pope’s combat power according to this display.

In the end, she judged that, even though he should be weaker than her and the Beast Emperor, his strength far surpassed that of an ordinary King of Knights.

What she understood, the Beast Emperor also understood.

Therefore, it didn’t choose to try to kill the Kings of Knights anymore.

It knew that with the Pope’s interference, killing them was nearly impossible.
