Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 380: Chapter 202: Transcendent-Tier Combat Power_3

”The director of the Southern Region of our Investigation Bureau, who is also an Awakened of [Heroic Spirit] status, wants to meet you personally.”

”This concerns the elevation of your Permissions Level and the forthcoming [Ancient Trials].”

Qin Xiang’s words made Chu Xiu’s eyebrows twitch slightly.

An Awakened [Heroic Spirit] wants to meet me personally?

Chu Xiu knew that this meeting wouldn’t be as simple as just a face-to-face encounter.

The other party would undoubtedly investigate, or even assess him, and disguising himself in front of a [Heroic Spirit] is extremely challenging.

After a moment’s thought, Chu Xiu said, ”Can we meet in Abyss City?”

”I’m afraid not,” Qin Xiang shook his head, ”That person wants to meet the real [you] face-to-face; otherwise, there’s no need to come personally.”

Qin Xiang emphasized the word ”real,” and hearing this, Chu Xiu sighed lightly, understanding the implication immediately.

He knew that his displayed talent was somewhat exaggerated, which had already drawn the attention of influential figures, who held great expectations for him and intended to nurture him significantly.

However, naturally, they wouldn’t invest substantial resources in someone with an unknown background, much like stock trading—if you see a stock surging and wish to invest, you would first need to understand its information and company background; blindly investing without inquiry is a sure path to loss.

The bigwigs don’t mind investing in a genius; they merely want to ensure that their every investment will yield returns in the future!

To obtain more benefits, he must reassure the bigwigs!

But the problem is... Chu Xiu couldn’t be sure if any of these bigwigs didn’t intend to invest long-term, but rather, like Li Zhan, planned to seize his talent for themselves.

”Apologies, senior, but I don’t want to expose my identity.” After some deliberation, Chu Xiu still refused.

Because meeting an Awakened [Heroic Spirit] in person would inevitably involve them using their Investigation Skill on him, and he wasn’t confident that the Qi Concealing Technique he acquired at the Mortal Tier could withstand the probing of an Awakened [Heroic Spirit]. If his [MAX] Tier Profession were revealed, he’d be done for.

Afterward, Qin Xiang continued trying to persuade him with various assurances of his safety, but Chu Xiu remained resolute in his refusal.

This left Qin Xiang exasperated, his face plainly expressing how this kid was perhaps overly cautious.

”Kid, why are you so suspicious? Yet when it comes to actions, you aren’t this cautious?” Qin Xiang sighed heavily, ”Your talent is strong, but not so invincible that the Investigation Bureau cannot protect you; nor is it so exceptional that we would covet your Profession and talent because of it!”

”What do you take our government agency for?”

Chu Xiu still remained silent; Qin Xiang didn’t know that the combat prowess he showed, while already astonishing, was only the tip of the iceberg of his true strength.

Seeing his determined stance, Qin Xiang ultimately could only compromise: ”Alright then, I’ll discuss this with our Director again.”

Chu Xiu cupped his fists, saying somewhat apologetically, ”I’m troubling you, senior.”

Qin Xiang waved his hand, choosing not to say more, merely adding: ”Get some proper rest during this time. You should be notified within three days.”

With that, his information body gradually dispersed into pure data, vanishing from sight—presumably returning to Blue Star to report.

Chu Xiu also planned to head back, as the series of battles had drained him almost entirely, and he indeed should get some proper rest.

However, just then, something came to mind, causing him not to return immediately. Instead, he turned and entered a quaint and elegant teahouse.

[Mountain View Building]

He suddenly recalled having accepted a task before setting out, namely someone investigating information on the Outer Realm Demon Az Ilituay Mgos, which he took on casually.

The Mountain View Building was just as empty as it was during his last visit. Only a single information body at the counter was dozing off, while the wall beside him was plastered with various bounty tasks.

However, all were just foundational tasks; those with truly lucrative rewards and high confidentiality require formal membership with the Mountain View Building.

”Knock, knock.”

Chu Xiu approached the counter and took a couple of glances at the information body.

The information body immediately awoke, looking up at him with a large, bright yellow question mark appearing above its head.

”I’m here to check on my task progress,” Chu Xiu stated.

”One moment, please.”

The information body replied, inserting both hands into wooden square boxes behind it, quickly causing a flow of vast information within its body.

”Query complete. No response from the other party yet, but your personal information is recorded. If there is any news, you will be informed immediately.”

Chu Xiu nodded, then prepared to leave.

”Huh?”

But just then, the information body seemed to notice something and couldn’t help but give a soft ”huh.”

Then, he turned back and asked Chu Xiu, ”Are you the Dark Night Monarch?”
