Fate's Slave - Shadow Slave X Honkai Star Rail

From Cocolia’s perspective, the world slowed.

The battlefield, already fractured and collapsing under layers of Destruction, seemed to stretch into stillness as the arrow of fire cut through the air toward her. Its movement was not truly slow, nor was her perception enhanced in any conventional sense. Instead, something within her mind sharpened under the pressure of imminent threat, forcing clarity into existence where madness had previously dominated. Every detail became distinct, every shift in air laid bare before her senses as the arrow advanced with inevitable intent.

It was aimed directly at her heart.

The realization did not come with panic. It came with precision. Her body responded immediately, blackened ice surging outward from her core as she raised a barrier between herself and the incoming attack. The first layer formed instantly, thick and reinforced, its structure laced with the golden cracks of Destruction that defined her corrupted existence. It was not enough.

She added another.

Then another.

Each barrier overlapped the last, forming a dense lattice of ice and power that stood between her and the approaching arrow. The layers stacked rapidly, each one stronger than the last as her control refined itself under pressure. Her Essence flowed not only through her body but beyond it, extending outward in a way that only beings of her Rank could achieve. It coated the barriers, reinforced them.

The arrow reached her.

It struck the first barrier.

For a fraction of a moment, there was resistance.

Then it detonated.

The explosion consumed everything.

A pillar of flame erupted upward with catastrophic force, its intensity annihilating the surrounding snow and ice in an instant. The cold environment that had defined the battlefield vanished within that radius, replaced by overwhelming heat that surged outward in all directions. The shockwave followed immediately, a violent expansion of pressure that tore through the terrain and sent debris scattering across the landscape.

The mountain’s remnants disintegrated further.

The ground fractured.

The air itself seemed to rupture under the force of the blast.

Far from the epicenter, Sunny braced himself.

He shifted his stance, anchoring his body against the incoming wave as it reached him. Even at a distance of nearly five kilometers, the force was immense, the shockwave carrying enough power to destabilize his footing if he allowed it. Snow and dust were blasted outward, obscuring his vision momentarily as the aftermath of his own attack washed over him.

He did not move from his position.

Instead, he watched.

His gaze remained fixed on the distant explosion, the pillar of fire still rising into the sky as the energy slowly dissipated. For a brief moment, even he was caught off guard by the sheer destructive output of what he had created.

It exceeded his expectations.

He had not anticipated this level of force.

The combination of shadow, emotion, and Destruction had produced something far beyond a simple attack. It had become a convergence of multiple systems layered together, each amplifying the others in ways that were difficult to quantify. The result was something that approached the level of power wielded by Saints with destructive Aspects, though it did not fully reach that threshold.

Still, it was close enough to matter.

Sunny exhaled slowly as he evaluated the result.

If a Saint were struck directly by that attack without any form of defense, he believed it would cause significant damage. That assumption, however, came with a necessary caveat. Saints were not beings that relied solely on physical durability. Their control over Essence extended beyond their bodies, allowing them to reinforce themselves in ways that Ascended beings could not replicate.

Cocolia was no exception.

He had seen it.

Through Weaver’s Eye, he had observed the way her Essence moved, how it extended outward from her form to create an additional layer of protection. It was subtle to those without the ability to perceive souls, but to him, it was unmistakable. Her defenses were not limited to the blackened ice that composed her body. There was something beyond that, an invisible layer that absorbed and redirected force before it could reach her core.

That was the difference.

Ascended beings enhanced themselves internally, reinforcing muscle, bone, and structure with Essence. Transcendents and the Corrupted extended that reinforcement outward, turning their very presence into a field of influence that interacted with the world directly.

Sunny understood this.

He accounted for it.

Which was why the arrow had never been meant to kill her.

At the epicenter of the explosion, the flames began to recede.

The pillar collapsed inward as the energy dispersed, leaving behind a devastated landscape where nothing remained intact. The ice barriers Cocolia had created were gone, obliterated by the force of the detonation. The ground beneath her had been torn apart, the layers of snow and ice that once formed a stable surface reduced to fragmented debris.

For a brief moment, there was nothing beneath her.

Then the ground gave way completely.

She fell.

The descent was not long, but it was sudden. The fractured layers of ice collapsed under her weight, opening into a vast expanse hidden beneath the surface. What had once appeared to be solid terrain revealed itself as something else entirely.

A body of water.

Dark and expansive, it stretched beneath the battlefield, concealed by the frozen layers above it. Sunny had recognized it earlier through the shadows, identifying the subtle distortion that marked the presence of liquid beneath the ice. It had not been immediately relevant at the time, but now, it became central to his plan.

Cocolia dropped into it.

The moment her body made contact, the water reacted.

It froze.

The process was instantaneous. The cold that defined her existence spread outward in a violent surge, turning liquid into solid in the span of a heartbeat. Ice formed around her, encapsulating her within a rapidly expanding structure that thickened with every passing second.

It was a prison.

The water became her tomb, layers of ice sealing around her body as her own power worked against her. The deeper she fell, the more the freezing spread, locking her into place within an environment that mirrored her own nature but denied her freedom of movement.

For a brief moment, she was immobilized.

Then the Destruction within her reacted.

The ice shattered.

A massive surge of force erupted outward, a pulse of Destruction that tore through the frozen structure and sent shards of ice exploding in every direction. The water beneath churned violently as the sudden release of energy disrupted its state, waves forming and collapsing in rapid succession.

Cocolia rose.

She forced herself upward through the broken ice, her body reforming as she moved. The demonic shape she had taken stabilized once more, her limbs extending as she pushed against the remnants of her temporary prison.

She reached the surface.

The water beneath her froze again, forming a platform that supported her weight as she landed. The ice spread outward, stabilizing under her feet as she prepared to move once more.

Then she leaped.

The force behind it was immense, her body launching upward with the strength of a Corrupted Beast. The distance between the lake and the surface above was crossed in an instant, her form cutting through the air as she returned to the battlefield.

She landed.

The ice beneath her feet cracked, then stabilized as her control reasserted itself. Her golden eyes burned with renewed intensity, the madness within them sharpened by the sequence of events she had just endured.

Her gaze locked forward.

Sunny was already gone.

He ran across the fractured terrain, his form cutting through the unstable ground with purpose that did not waver. There was no hesitation in his movement, no pause to confirm the outcome of his previous attack. He had already transitioned to the next phase of his plan, his mind operating several steps ahead of the present moment.

The battlefield stretched before him, broken and unstable, yet he navigated it without faltering.

He had a destination.

Whether Cocolia recognized it or not was irrelevant to his immediate actions, but the possibility lingered. The direction he moved in was not random, nor was it dictated solely by the terrain. There was intent behind it, something deeper than simple repositioning.

Behind him, Cocolia moved.

She did not hesitate to pursue.
