Fate's Slave - Shadow Slave X Honkai Star Rail

The moment Cocolia’s spear pierced into his true shadow, Sunny felt something far more insidious than physical damage take hold, and the shift was immediate enough that it did not require analysis for him to understand the danger.

The cold that had previously lingered at the edges of his awareness now surged inward with violent intent, no longer content to gnaw at his defenses from the outside. It flooded directly into the core of his being, seeping into his mind and soul in a way that bypassed conventional resistance, slowing the flow of Shadow Essence as though it were being forced through an ever-tightening constriction.

His thoughts dulled.

Not in the sense that he lost clarity entirely, but in the way that each process seemed to drag, as if the very act of thinking required more effort than before. Reactions that had once been instantaneous now carried the faintest delay, a fraction of a second that might have gone unnoticed in lesser combat, but here, in a battle where every movement existed on the edge of lethality, it was unacceptable.

The freezing influence was accelerating.

Cocolia’s Destruction was not merely damaging him. It was suppressing him.

Sunny smiled.

It was not a wide grin, nor was it forced. It was quiet, deliberate, and filled with something sharp enough to cut through the suffocating pressure surrounding him.

”Got you.”

The words left the Shadowspawn’s throat in a quiet murmur, but the intent behind them carried far more weight than the sound itself.

The Shadow Shell unraveled.

What had once been a layered defense, an accumulation of shadow woven tightly around his transformed body, suddenly loosened its structure. The dense mass of darkness that had reinforced him dissipated outwards, rushing towards Cocolia.

Chains formed.

These chains carried the density of something absolute, each link forged from compressed darkness that radiated a suffocating presence as they wrapped around her limbs, her torso, her neck. They bound her in an instant, locking her movements in place with a force that was not merely physical, but conceptual.

At the same time, Sunny changed.

The monstrous form he had been using flickered, then receded, collapsing back into shadow as his true shadow rose to take its place. His original body emerged from within it, clad in the Silent Mist, the familiar weight of his own existence settling around him in a way that felt both lighter and more precise.

There was no hesitation.

Hail Sorrow was already in his hands.

He stepped forward and swung.

The blade cut through the air with absolute clarity, its edge meeting no resistance as it passed through Cocolia’s neck. The strike was clean, precise, and final in a way that left no room for ambiguity. There was no dramatic explosion of force, no drawn-out struggle against her defenses.

Just a single motion.

Her head separated from her body.

For a moment, everything stilled.

Cocolia’s form staggered, her body remaining upright for a fraction of a second before collapsing to its knees. The chains loosened as their purpose was fulfilled, dissolving into shadow as the battlefield seemed to exhale in response to the sudden end of their clash.

Sunny let out a slow breath.

Relief flickered through him, not as a wave, but as a subtle release of tension that had been coiled tightly within his body since the beginning of the fight.

It was over.

At least, should have been.

His eyes narrowed.

The silence that followed felt wrong.

The absence of the Nightmare Spell’s announcement was not something he could ignore, and the longer that absence persisted, the more the unease settled into something heavier.

Then he felt it.

A golden gaze.

It did not come from the battlefield, nor from anywhere within the physical world. It descended from somewhere far beyond, pressing down upon the space around them with a weight that was incomprehensible in scale. It was not merely observation. It was attention, focused and deliberate, as if something vast had turned THEIR awareness toward them in response to what had just occurred.

Sunny’s breath hitched as the Stellaron’s sealed within him violently stirred.

”Nanook?!”

The name escaped him before he could stop it, drawn from instinct rather than certainty, but the moment it left his lips, the world responded.

Light erupted.

Cocolia’s body was consumed by a pillar of gold, the radiance descending from above like a divine judgment that had been invoked rather than summoned. The severed head did not remain separate. It dissolved into the light, its form breaking apart before being drawn back toward the body as if the act of death itself had been rejected.

Sunny did not wait.

He turned and ran.

There was no pride left in the decision, no hesitation born from the desire to confirm the outcome. Whatever had just intervened was beyond him, beyond anything he could reasonably confront in his current state.

He shifted into shadow.

His body dissolved into darkness, gliding across the snowfield with fluid speed before rising upward along the exterior walls of Belobog. The ascent was effortless, his form adhering to the surface as though gravity had no claim over him in that state.

At the top, he reformed.

Bronya was already there.

She turned toward him immediately, her expression tense, but controlled, as if she had been waiting for him to return with some form of resolution. Sunny said without preamble, his voice steady despite the circumstances:

”I can’t win. We need to run.”

There was no argument.

Serpent descended from the sky at that exact moment, its massive form shrinking as it plunged into Sunny’s shadow. Within his Soul Sea, beneath the looming presence of the four black suns and above the dark, endless waters, Serpent opened its maw and released what it had carried.

Silvermane Guards.

IPC soldiers.

Their bodies fell gently onto the surface of his inner world, still and unconscious but unharmed.

Tingyun stood nearby, as composed as ever, a small flute forming in her hand before she dropped it among them. The Memory activated instantly, its enchantment spreading outward in a subtle wave that ensured their continued sleep.

They would not interfere.

They would not suffer.

For now, that was enough.

Back in the Waking World, Sunny reached for Bronya’s hand.

The moment his fingers brushed against hers—

Something passed between them.

Two blurs shot past.

They moved so fast that even Sunny’s enhanced perception barely caught them, streaks of motion tearing across the battlefield as they raced toward the snowfield beyond.

One of them was unmistakable.

Seele.

Her amethyst scythe gleamed faintly as she surged forward, her expression set with a determination that bordered on recklessness.

The other...

Sunny’s pupils contracted.

He did not need to see the physical changes to understand what had happened. The moment his gaze touched her soul, everything became clear in a way that sent a cold spike through his chest.

Where there had once been a crimson moon—

There was now something broken.

The shape remained, but it had been fractured, split apart and flooded with a vile corruption that twisted its presence into something unrecognizable.

Veliona.

Veliona had become something else entirely, and the realization did not come to Sunny in fragments or hesitation, but all at once, striking him with a clarity that left no room for denial. What stood before him was no longer the girl he had known, no longer the fractured yet familiar presence that had once existed alongside Seele. The shape was there, the outline of her existence still recognizable, but the core of it had been twisted into something alien.

A Fallen Master.

The words formed in his mind with a quiet finality, carrying a weight that settled heavily in his chest. For a brief moment, his composure faltered, his mouth parting slightly as if to speak, yet nothing came out. The shock did not manifest as panic, nor as outward emotion, but as a sharp, internal rupture that made his thoughts stutter.

’Damn it... damn it!’

The frustration echoed within him, raw and unfiltered, but there was no time to linger on it. Bronya’s voice reached him from nearby, softer than before, edged with uncertainty as she tried to understand what had just happened.

”Sunny...?”

He forced himself to move, shaking his head sharply as he pushed the distraction aside. There were too many variables, too many dangers converging at once, and hesitation would only make things worse.

”I... I’m going to buy Seele some time. Stay here.”

His tone was firm despite the brief stumble at the start, leaving no room for argument. Even as he spoke, his shadow stirred at his feet, responding to his will as something began to take shape within it. The darkness rose in a controlled surge, condensing into the form of a weapon before emerging fully into his grasp.

A black javelin rested in his hand, its surface lined with serpentine scales that caught the faint light in subtle, shifting patterns, as if the weapon itself possessed a quiet, predatory awareness. Sunny tightened his grip around it, then closed his eyes for the briefest of moments, extending his perception outward through the shadows that blanketed the battlefield.

They answered immediately.

Through them, he felt the movement of two figures cutting across the terrain at extreme speeds, their presences distinct despite the chaos surrounding them. One burned with the clarity of an Ascended existence, controlled and focused even in motion. The other was something far more unstable, its presence fractured and warped, carrying the unmistakable taint of something that had fallen beyond the boundary of humanity.

One Ascended.

One Fallen.

That was all he needed.

Sunny exhaled slowly, drawing the javelin back as his body aligned with the trajectory he had already calculated. There was no dramatic pause, no wasted motion as he committed fully to the action.

He threw it.

The javelin left his hand like a released bolt of force, tearing through the air with such speed that it shattered the sound barrier almost instantly. Its path was precise, cutting through the battlefield in a straight, unwavering line as it closed the distance in less than a heartbeat.

It was not aimed at Veliona.

Instead, it struck Seele’s shadow.

The moment of impact did not produce an explosion or visible force, but the effect was immediate. In the edge of her awareness, the Nightmare Spell announced its response in a detached, mechanical tone.

[You have received an Attribute.]

Seele did not acknowledge it.

Her attention remained entirely locked on the fight, her body already moving as she twisted away from Veliona’s incoming strike. The motion was fluid and instinctive, her form slipping just out of reach before she retaliated, her amethyst scythe carving through the space Veliona had occupied.

It struck nothing.

Veliona had already warped away, her movements erratic and relentless, shifting positions with a chaotic unpredictability that made her difficult to track. There was no rhythm to her attacks, no consistency that could be exploited, only a continuous, aggressive pursuit that forced Seele to remain in constant motion.

Back on the battlefield, the golden light that had engulfed Cocolia began to recede, its brilliance fading until the figure within it became visible once more.

She stood again.

At first glance, her form appeared unchanged, but the longer Sunny looked, the more apparent the differences became. The ice that encased her body had darkened, its once pale surface now infused with a blackened hue that seemed to absorb light rather than reflect it. Across that surface, thin veins of gold spread outward in jagged patterns, like cracks that refused to close, each one pulsing faintly with an energy that did not belong to her original state.

Her eyes burned brighter than before.

The golden glow within them had sharpened, condensing into something far more focused, far more dangerous. When they settled on Sunny, there was no hesitation, no trace of the detached ferocity she had displayed earlier.

Only hatred.

He let out a small, awkward chuckle, though the sound lacked any real amusement. It was reflex more than anything else, a thin attempt to mask the tension that had returned in full force.

”You’re looking uglier than usual, aren’t you, Miss Emanator of Destruction?”

For the first time since their battle had begun, Cocolia responded with something other than motion.

The sound that emerged from her throat was low and uneven, a distorted snarl that carried an unnatural weight, as if her voice itself had been warped by the corruption within her. When she spoke, the words came out strained, fragmented, yet unmistakably deliberate.

”Fuli... die!”

Sunny blinked, caught off guard for a fraction of a second as confusion flickered across his expression. That was... the Aeon of Remembrance, right?

He dismissed it just as quickly.

It did not matter.

What mattered was the fact that she was still standing, still fighting, and now more dangerous than before.

He raised Hail Sorrow, the blade settling into his grip with familiar weight as his stance shifted once more into readiness.

”You want me to die, huh?”

This time, when he smiled, there was no hesitation in it. The expression was sharp, edged with defiance and something darker beneath it, something that accepted the reality of the situation without attempting to soften it.

”Then... let’s die together!”

The wind howled across the shattered battlefield, carrying with it the distant echoes of war and the lingering presence of something far greater watching from beyond. Snow and debris were swept into the air, the environment itself reacting to the tension that had returned in full force.

And without another word, Sunny stepped forward to meet her once again.
