Chapter 702: Chapter 330: Tiramisu Cake, Cinderella Making a Wish

PM.

The city’s streets are shrouded in a misty haze.

Raindrops patter against the glass curtain wall in an almost continuous rhythm, producing a crisp sound.

In the vast Glimmer Cafe, there are only about seven or eight customers, all white-collar workers from the building.

The Morning Star Building is only about a kilometer away from the normal university campus, surrounded by office buildings and various businesses.

Even on weekends, the cafe usually has many people.

But clearly, this sudden downpour has disrupted their normal business rhythm.

Qian Lele sits on a small stool in the baking room, holding a professional computer book.

A while ago, she talked with Tang Song about employment issues, which deeply inspired her.

The computer science major at Yan City Normal University isn’t very strong, and the teachers’ lectures are broad but not detailed; the main purpose is to expose them to more languages and technologies to find their own direction.

To land an offer from a big company upon graduation, one must master a particular skill.

So, based on Tang Song’s suggestion, she started to delve into front-end development.

The deeper she dug, the more she realized how shallow her knowledge was, and there was too much to learn.

New syntax, closures, prototype chains, asynchronous programming, various frameworks, build tools...

But she has to spend a lot of time working.

This gives her a strong sense of urgency and crisis, fearing that she will be eliminated by social competition after graduation.

”Hello, Lele, still using your time to study?” A voice sounded beside her.

Qian Lele hurriedly closed the book and stood up, a bit embarrassed, ”Brother Yang, I’ve finished my work here, so...”

This Brother Yang was Yang Hongwei, the duty manager of the Morning Star Building branch, considered the second-in-command at the cafe.

He usually took good care of her, arranging her shifts according to her classes.

She is now working full-time at the cafe, earning no less than others, yet secretly reading and resting here, feeling uneasy.

”It’s okay.” Yang Hongwei smiled and waved his hand, ”It’s good to study more when you’re idle. President Xie also often encourages our staff to strive for learning, and even offers bonuses for educational advancements.”

”Thank you, Brother Yang.” Qian Lele bowed sincerely to thank him.

The two chatted briefly about the weather and school.

Yang Hongwei’s phone in his pocket started vibrating continuously.

He picked it up, glanced at it, and shook his head with a wry smile, ”The two other shareholders of our company are causing trouble in the group again, judging by their chat, it looks like this financing is going to fall through.”

The group he’s referring to is the company’s management group, which includes leaders from the headquarters and managers and duty supervisors from various branches.

Upon hearing this, Qian Lele’s heart skipped a beat, she nervously asked, ”Is President Xie very angry? Will the cafe be affected?”

Regarding the shareholder conflicts, they, the junior staff, actually knew a bit, with various rumors circulating privately.

Yang Hongwei casually picked up a piece of cut cake edge.

While eating, he continued, ”The cafe won’t be affected, at most, the financing fails, and we maintain the status quo. Alright, it’s not something we should worry about, just focus on doing our job well.”

”Yes, I understand, Brother Yang.” Qian Lele slightly lowered her head, still feeling uneasy inside.

She admires and is grateful for President Xie, the elegant, dignified, and decisive female CEO.

Hoping she can keep going smoothly.

But being just a part-time university student, she can’t help in any way, only feeling anxious.

”Okay, I’ll go back to the store.” Yang Hongwei clapped his hands naturally and said, ”Oh right, you’re also finishing at five, right? Since it’s raining so heavily, I’ll drive you, Nana, and Shuo back later.”

After speaking, Yang Hongwei walked out of the baking room with a smile.

Watching his back, Qian Lele softly said, ”Thank you.”

There are still good people around her, always making her feel the warmth of society.

This forty-something duty manager also serves as a barista at the cafe, with excellent skills and a kind personality.

Moreover, he is one of the earliest employees to follow President Xie in the startup.

...

PM.

”Buzz buzz buzz——” Suddenly, the phone in her pocket vibrated.

Qian Lele quickly took it out to see.

It’s Ding Yao.

She answered the call, ”Hey, Yaoyao, what’s up?”

Ding Yao’s crisp voice soon came through the receiver, ”Lele! Finished work?”

”Yes, almost done.”

”I just checked the weather forecast, it’s going to rain heavily again tomorrow, it might be a hassle for you to come.”

”It’s okay, I’ll take a cab.”

Since changing into new clothes and carrying a beautifully wrapped gift, she originally planned to take a cab.

And it wasn’t far, just a dozen yuan for the fare, she could afford it.

”Hehe, no need to waste money, I’ve arranged it for you. I’ll have Zhang Haoyu pick you up and take you directly to the X-STAT party house. I’ve reserved the place, all friends, plenty of food and fun!”

The more Ding Yao talked, the more excited she became, starting to introduce the birthday party setup and entertainment activities.

After she finished, Qian Lele responded softly but firmly, ”Yaoyao, really, it’s okay, I’ll go by myself.”

”Uh... alright, seems I can’t persuade you, let’s keep in touch, come early tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to some new friends.”

”Thank you, Yaoyao, I... I’m just worried I won’t fit in...”

”Okay, it’s decided then, Lele, see you tomorrow!” Ding Yao paused, then added softly, ”Actually, Zhang Haoyu is a nice guy, it’s just that we’re too familiar, I can’t make a move.”
