I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 1182, An Unexpected Choice

Translator: Silavin

As the days of the snow season passed one by one, a pressing matter began to loom.

The question of who the Flame Dragon Tribe would send to keep watch on the Dark Scorpion Tribe. The distance between the two Tribes was not close.

And the Dark Scorpion Tribe was not one to be underestimated, which made the choice of person all the more important.

“Shaman, what is it that’s been troubling you these past few days?” Sha Lan had no idea what was going on.

She only knew that recently there had been card games and bicycle riding and all manner of wonderful new foods, and she had felt quite content.

“I’m thinking about who to send to keep watch on the Dark Scorpion Tribe. The snow season has about ten more days left. It’s time to put this matter on the agenda.” Su Bai said it over a mouthful of hot tea.

They had spoken of this issue at the very start of the snow season, but at the time it had felt far off enough that no one had really sat down to discuss it seriously.

“Shaman, how about I go? If there’s truly no one else, I can do it. My strength right now should be more than enough to keep myself safe.” Yan Hua solemnly said.

It was not that Yan Hua had been completely unwilling at the start. She had simply been worried that she might make a mistake and the mission might end in failure.

Keeping watch on the Dark Scorpion Tribe was a mission of the utmost importance. The smallest mistake would deal a heavy blow to the Flame Dragon Tribe’s chances. That was why Yan Hua had not volunteered at the start, and had not brought it up.

“I can go as well. I won’t act rashly. I will also definitely bring back all the intelligence we need.” Sha Lan also spoke with equal seriousness.

She Lan did not want to see Su Bai wearing a troubled expression. She genuinely wanted to go and fix the issue.

If no suitable person had been found, then going to a bit of trouble herself was nothing at all.

“It isn’t that I doubt you could complete the mission. It’s that you both have other duties to see to. Someone else will have to go.” Su Bai shook his head.

If it were not for the other duties those two had, he would have sent them to keep watch on the Dark Scorpion Tribe without hesitation. Their strength and their efficiency in carrying out tasks were both excellent. He also trusted that they would not make a mistake on this mission.

“Shaman, last time you mentioned we had other duties, but nothing has been arranged for us since. I’ve been wondering what those duties actually are.” Yan Hua asked with genuine curiosity.

The conversation last time had been left half-finished, so Yan Hua had not pressed the matter. But now that it had come up again, she was truly curious about what these other duties were.

“I want you both to stay and guard the Tribe. Having you nearby puts my mind at ease. Besides that, you each still have many subordinates who haven’t finished their training. The snow season is the time to make full use of and push them to train hard.”

Su Bai took a sip of hot tea and continued: “And I also don’t want you going out to take the risk. Just stay by my side from now on.”

The main reason, really, was simply that he did not want the girls to go. The number of Warriors in the Tribe was growing, and there was genuinely no need to keep sending those two out.

What they could carry out, other Warriors could carry out as well. This mission was no exception.

“Shaman!” Yan Hua was suddenly at a loss for words. A flush of red crept across her delicate face.

“Shaman, but the thing troubling you right now is exactly the question of who to send. If there is truly no one, the two of us really can go.” Sha Lan was still primarily worried about Su Bai.

Sha Lan had watched him fret over this for a long while now, and she wanted to quickly settle the matter.

“As it turns out, I just thought of a suitable candidate.” The corner of Su Bai’s mouth suddenly lifted.

He had been turning it over for days, weighing one person against another, and had at last settled on someone.

“Shaman, who is it? The Chieftain? My Mother? Or Uncle Qing Yan?” Sha Lan blinked her blue eyes rapidly.

“Could it be Uncle Cang Shi? His temperament is about the same as mine, so you surely wouldn’t choose him, right?” Yan Hua asked with equal curiosity.

“You seem to have a very clear understanding of your own temperament.” Sha Lan could not help laughing.

“Hey.” Yan Hua raised a hand in the pose of someone about to tickle the other person.

“I’m sorry. I was wrong.” Sha Lan was rather ticklish, and the moment she saw that gesture she immediately began to apologize.

“None of them. I’m thinking of sending Ban Ye. His strength has improved remarkably quickly as of late. He is now a fitting Mid-Stage Totem Warrior. I think he is well suited for this.” Su Bai said it with full seriousness.

Ban Ye had been a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior in name only, while his actual strength had been no more than Early-Stage.

Because of that, Su Bai did not place that much expectation on him and had simply made him join the ranks of the Totem Warriors, sent into training.

Perhaps it was precisely because no great expectations had been placed on him that the return had been all the greater. His strength now could genuinely be called that of a true Mid-Stage Totem Warrior.

He had broken through early to begin with. But the Ferocious Beast Crystal inside him had been suppressing his strength all that time, causing it to fall rather than rise.

Once the Ferocious Beast Crystal had been removed, every training session Ban Ye did was free from that restraint. Gradually, some of his earlier strength began to return, and slowly he had reached the formidable stage he was at now.

Ban Ye’s strength at present could be said to rank among the very top of the Tribe. Given an opportunity, there was no reason he could not become a Leader of a team.

“Send him?” Sha Lan did not know much about this person. She only knew that someone by that name had joined the Tribe.

She had an enormous number of things to keep her busy each day. Beyond training her own subordinates, she spent every day doing work for the Yong’an Building.

She knew all the old Totem Warriors of the Tribe, but when it came to those who had just joined or were newly awakened, she genuinely had not really paid much attention. Some of them she had not even learned the name of.

It was not a problem with her exceptional memory. It was simply that there had been no contact at all between them, so naturally she did not know most of those new Totem Warriors. However, she at least knew Ban Ye.

“I remember he had a Ferocious Beast Crystal inside him before, and his strength recently recovered massively.”

Yan Hua began to recall what she had seen at the training ground, then continued. “I haven’t witnessed it personally myself. I’ve only caught bits of people talking about it here and there. It’s actually quite hard to avoid hearing this kind of talk.”

After all, that man was someone who had joined from a demolished Tribe, and he had been a Mid-Stage Totem Warrior when he arrived.

At the time, the Flame Dragon Tribe did not have many Mid-Stage Totem Warriors, they could be counted on the fingers of one hand.

So naturally there had been a great deal of discussion about this newcomer, who arrived already at that level. And the teams under Yan Hua’s command were fairly large, which meant even more conversations could be heard here and there.

“Have him come over. I believe he can do it.” Su Bai raised his tea again.

The Ferocious Beast Crystal inside Su Bai had come from Ban Ye, so he had naturally paid this person more attention than most.

For that reason, Su Bai had checked in with Sha Hong every so often, asking how things were going, and kept a quiet eye on how the man’s training was progressing.
