I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 1157, A Predictable Outcome

“So you’re a Giant Shell Land Tortoise. That suits you rather well.” Su Bai said pleasantly.

After dodging several of the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s attacks, he had decided he had no interest in continuing to circle the creature, and used his Taming Skill at once.

That was how he learned its name. It was indeed an Ancient Blood Ferocious Beast.

It was truly formidable.

“So you are called Giant Shell Land Tortoise. You look more docile now that you’ve been Tamed.” Sha Lan stepped forward.

She had complete faith in Su Bai’s Taming Shaman Technique. There was no apprehension in her at all. She walked up directly to the enormous shell and studied the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s appearance with curiosity.

“This creature is quite large. It should be able to transport a lot of cargo at one go. If a Tribe places a large order, everything could go in a single trip.” Yan Hua ran over as well.

This large creature was far larger than a Six Eyed Red Bird. The volume of goods it could carry went without saying.

“Yeah. With some modification it could carry even more. This journey was not wasted.” Su Bai was pleased.

“Shaman, what do you mean by modification?” Yan Hua asked curiously.

“You see the shell? It looks very hard on the outside, but there is room to work with. Modified properly, it could have many storage compartments added to it.” Su Bai crouched down and knocked against the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s shell.

“But it looks so tough. Can we really modify it?” Sha Lan crouched beside him, swishing her cat tail thoughtfully.

She knocked on the large shell herself, copying him. The sound was very dull and heavy. The inside was solid.

“Could it be that we would open up these sections and use them as storage space?” Yan Hua knocked on it too.

“Try it and see. Otherwise, as uneven as this shell is, transporting cargo on top of it is quite inconvenient.” Su Bai said, clearly eager.

“Try it now?” Sha Lan’s blue eyes went wide.

“Why not? We have nothing urgent, and the journey back will take some time.”

Su Bai reached out a hand and pulled the young woman up onto the creature’s back. “We should not linger here. The smell of blood will draw more Ferocious Beasts.”

“En.” Sha Lan and Yan Hua climbed onto the creature’s back and they set off.

*Step step step…*

The Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s travelling pace was surprisingly quick, a striking contrast to its massive size. One would have expected such a large body to move slowly. But its speed was comparable to a Six Eyed Red Bird’s, though not quite as fast.

“Shaman, it moves rather quickly. Delivery times should be much shorter with it.” Yan Hua said with pleased surprise.

Yan Hua had not anticipated this at all. Her long, dark hair streamed loose in the wind.

“The remaining question is how much cargo it can carry at one go. Ideally, whatever is stored should be secured.” Sha Lan busied herself with tidying her wind-blown hair.

She kept running her hand along the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s shell as they rode, testing its durability.

“We can try right now.” Su Bai put force into his right arm, and in an instant it was as though it had been coated in steel.

This was his Iron Arm Skill. The entire arm would become as hard as iron.

“Shaman, are you going to open up the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s shell directly?” Sha Lan’s blue eyes went very wide.

“We have time on the road. We may as well test it here.” Su Bai smiled.

“I do not mind at all. I have been curious whether the back can be restructured.” Yan Hua had been looking forward to this.

Su Bai worked his knuckles and tapped lightly across the shell in several places.

He was looking for the right spot. If it turned out to be impossible, at least the damage to that spot would not compromise the whole.

“Here should do. Near the tail, so even if it goes wrong it will not affect the rest.” Su Bai murmured.

He made a fist, gauged the force carefully, and struck.

A section of the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s shell cracked away at once.

“What does it look like?” Yan Hua pressed in immediately.

“Is it all right?” Sha Lan was very concerned.

“Exactly as I thought. The outermost layer is quite hard, but beyond it the inside is hollow.”

Su Bai smiled with satisfaction. “If we break away the upper layer and then fit a new cap over it, the stored cargo would be completely secure…”

The Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s shell was segmented like a tortoise’s, divided into sections, each with protrusions rising from the surface like small hills.

Su Bai had knocked across the shell earlier and noted the sound was not a fully solid one. There was a faint hollow quality to it.

Now that the section had been opened, what he saw was exactly what he had suspected. The small hill on top had crumbled away, and beneath it was a small storage cavity.

“Wow. To think it actually works. We could fill these with cargo and cover each one over. The goods would never get wet and could never fall out.” Sha Lan was so delighted her cat tail would not stop swishing.

She found the whole thing deeply astonishing. She had not imagined anything like this.

She had been quietly worried the blow would break through the shell and into the creature’s flesh.

If the shell were not hollow, a strike like that would have shattered it down to the flesh.

She could not bear having a freshly Tamed Ferocious Beast suffering injuries before it had ever carried a single load.

“This looks very promising. Look at how many separate compartments there are in the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s shell. The storage capacity is amazing.” Su Bai was pleased.

The shell’s back was divided into more than a dozen segments. Each varied in size, some close to a metre across, others half a metre or a matter of centimetres. Without question, the total storage space was substantial.

This was nothing like a Six Eyed Red Bird, which could only carry goods in containers mounted to either side of its body.

One Six Eyed Red Bird could transport what amounted to a single compartment of the Giant Shell Land Tortoise’s back.

The comparison made clear just how much this creature could carry. And it explained Su Bai’s satisfaction.

“So this trip was not without reward after all.” Yan Hua laughed happily.

“If we could Tame several more, it would be much better.” Su Bai was, naturally, thinking the more the merrier.
