I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 1071, The Tribe Is the Answer

“Shaman, none of our people were harmed. We’ve captured both Mid-Stage Totem Warriors sent by the Dark Scorpion Tribe.”

Yan Jiao paid no mind to the sweat nearly dripping from his brow and came directly from outside the Tribe to the Yong’an Building.

“Good that no one was hurt. Make sure people are posted to watch them at all times. They are Mid-Stage Totem Warriors, after all. Their strength is not to be underestimated.”

Su Bai set down his writing brush and spoke with quiet gravity.

Even though the Flame Dragon Tribe’s strength now surpassed every other Tribe, they had still, in effect, invited a wolf through the front gates.

Under no circumstances could those two be allowed any chance to move freely. Left unchecked, they could stir genuine panic within the Tribe.

“I’ve already arranged for Sha Hong and Ban Ye to shadow them without a single step’s distance. There won’t be any mishaps.” Yan Jiao nodded firmly.

“Good. You’ve all worked hard today. Go and rest now.” Su Bai raised a hand and waved.

“Shaman, there is one very important matter I’d like to ask you about.” Yan Jiao hesitated briefly before speaking.

“What is it?” Su Bai looked up.

“Shaman, is it truly wise not to execute or imprison them? Having them here in our Tribe like this feels like it could easily go wrong.” Yan Jiao asked.

Though he knew the Shaman always had his own considered reasons, this particular decision genuinely puzzled him.

“I intend to bring them both into the Flame Dragon Tribe. There is suitable work for them to do here. And their intentions were never truly wicked, were they?” Su Bai replied with a question of his own.

“I understand. I’ll keep a close watch on them.”

Yan Jiao gave a firm nod and pressed on. “Shaman, there’s one more thing. After three days, if they still insist on leaving the Flame Dragon Tribe, will you truly agree to it?”

The earlier decision he could come to terms with, but this particular point sat uneasily with him.

The Dark Scorpion Tribe had harboured intentions against the Flame Dragon Tribe, and the incident involving the Black Snake Tribe had been their doing as well.

Yan Jiao’s feelings toward the Dark Scorpion Tribe were those of deep dislike and resentment. The thought of letting Gang Guo return after three days was something he could not reconcile himself to.

“Don’t worry. The answer he gives us in three days will absolutely be that he wants to stay. There’s no need to overthink it.” Su Bai said with unhurried composure.

“Is that right? If the Shaman is confident, then I’m at ease.” Yan Jiao broke into an earnest, guileless smile.

He placed unconditional trust in Su Bai’s words. Now that his doubts had been put to rest, there was every reason to feel at ease.

“When have I ever deceived anyone in our Tribe?” Su Bai smiled as he watched the man’s expression.

Every person in the Flame Dragon Tribe was wholesome and straightforward, placing complete and unquestioning faith in everything he had done.

“Shaman, I need to go and give those Warriors a thorough briefing. I won’t disturb your work any further.” With his mind settled, Yan Jiao turned and departed.

“Shaman, the Chieftain’s concerns are not without merit. Do you have a plan to make them stay?” Yu Ying set aside the work in her hands.

“I have no particular plan. But everything within this Tribe is the plan. Rest assured, they will absolutely stay.” Su Bai gave the same unhurried reply.

The reason he was so certain was simply that what the Flame Dragon Tribe possessed was too far ahead of its time.

What was more, everything the Flame Dragon Tribe had was something no other Tribe could claim.

Even the Dark Scorpion Tribe was no different. No matter how large that Tribe might be, no matter how many smaller Tribes answered to it, it could not come close to even a tenth of what the Flame Dragon Tribe had achieved.

Su Bai was confident that people who had never been exposed to such things, once they spent a few days in the Flame Dragon Tribe, would be utterly won over by everything around them.

Besides, the Flame Dragon Tribe’s offerings were far too vast to be understood in three days alone. Without staying for at least ten days, one could not begin to grasp it all.

And with the snow season fast approaching, Gang Guo would not rashly depart the Flame Dragon Tribe. After that, everything else would become straightforward.

In the meantime, there would be no forced labour, no confinement. They would simply be left to roam freely.

They would also be given something different to eat at every meal, and things like the carriage, the Central Market, and the food street would do the rest of the convincing far better than any words could.

After all that, if they still could not be won over by everything the Flame Dragon Tribe had to offer, then keeping them would serve no purpose anyway.

Naturally, Su Bai had no intention of releasing them alive if they truly insisted on leaving. A decision like that would mean declaring themselves enemies of the Flame Dragon Tribe.

“I trust the Shaman.” Yu Ying flicked her pink fox tail lightly.

“Wait and see. Ah’Hua and the others should be returning in the next couple of days.” Su Bai smiled quietly.

Yan Hua had been gone for some time now. He had calculated the days, and it was about right.

When Yan Hua and the others had departed the Tribe, Su Bai had already given them clear instructions: ten days was their limit.

No matter whether the mission had been completed or not, they were to return to the Tribe after ten days without exception.

“Yes, when I count the days it would be tomorrow or the day after. I wonder if they’ve managed to complete the mission?” Yu Ying began to feel the anticipation building.

“I believe they have. We’ll wait here in the Tribe for good news.” Su Bai laughed openly and without a care.

“Yes.” Yu Ying gave her fox ears a happy little shake.

“When they come back, have something good prepared for them to eat. I’ll go and attend to my own matters.” Su Bai ruffled her head lightly and returned to his seat.

“I’ll make sure the kitchen prepares plenty of delicious things.” Yu Ying’s bright voice rang out.

The kitchen duties had by now been handed over entirely to Min, and it had to be said, the girl had proven herself a remarkably quick learner.

Many dishes needed only a single demonstration before she had them mastered. She had even begun building upon existing recipes and creating new variations of her own.

…

Min’s younger Sister Wen was equally sharp, and her paintings were growing ever more beautiful and refined with each passing day.

Though the greatest credit for that, in truth, belonged to Su Bai, whose patient teaching had made all the difference.

“Another enormous pile of materials.” Su Bai let out a long sigh as he surveyed the items covering the table before him.

Spread across the wooden surface was a remarkable variety of materials: feathers, claws, and scales from Ferocious Beasts, along with the flowers, roots, and stems of various plants.

All in all, it was a thoroughly overwhelming sight to behold. There was no other explanation for it; every single one of these materials had been gathered in preparation for crafting Shaman Bone Tablets.

Su Bai still had several Skill remaining that had not yet been made into Shaman Bone Tablets. That alone was enough to give him no small measure of grief.

He had no wish for such exceptional Skills to remain solely in his own hands. Turning them into Shaman Bone Tablets to bolster the Flame Dragon Tribe’s strength was a worthy endeavour in its own right.

For in this brutal primordial age, strength was the only true currency of power. That was precisely why he had to keep making the Flame Dragon Tribe stronger.

“Shaman, would you like me to help?” Yu Ying suddenly volunteered with great enthusiasm.

“That works. Follow my steps one by one as I go, and then for the final step, swap out the materials and bring the result to me.” Su Bai accepted readily.

He figured that having someone assist him in testing and replacing materials one at a time was far more efficient than working through every variation alone.

“Understood.” Yu Ying was positively beaming.
