Apocalypse Descent: Farming with My Harem

Chapter 1552: Chapter 522: Silent World, Cao Xing’s Method of Exploration

”We’re doomed! The coal and wood in my territory are running low. At most, it’ll last one night before it’s all used up. Does anyone have coal they can lend me? I’ll trade iron and copper for it.”

”Brother, what are you thinking? Don’t you know how much coal and wood have skyrocketed in price now? Not even mithril would get you a trade!”

”I’ll trade 100 units of wheat for 100 units of coal. Anyone up for a deal?”

Most survivors actually don’t have much in the way of supplies.

After all, they don’t have many workers, and the resource points that refresh weekly in their territories are limited. These extractions barely suffice for their territory’s development.

The seven-day fog disaster nearly exhausted the survivors’ supplies, especially food and coal, which were in critical shortage.

For a while, everyone was distressed over resources.

The next day...

It was the eighth day of the fog disaster, and the situation became even more severe.

More and more survivors ran out of fuel, causing the melting furnaces in their territories to extinguish, leading to a sharp drop in temperature.

Some people also faced food shortages and couldn’t feed their workers, leading to chaos within the territory.

”Damn it! These crafty folks, just two days without food and they’re ready to rebel. With such heavy fog, where the hell am I supposed to find food for them?”

”My territory’s melting furnace is out, and the constitution of these Polar People and civilians is weak. They’re unbearably cold and want to leave my territory to find other safer places. In the end, they all died in the fog!”

”Good, they’re dead! Damn it, at least it solved our food problem.”

”I’ve got some frozen meat here. Anyone got coal they’d trade for some?”

The fog disaster came on suddenly, and no one was prepared for a prolonged response to the disaster.

The continuous eight-day fog disaster practically consumed the foundation of most territories.

However, Cao Xing’s territory had quite sufficient resource reserves.

Whether it was food or coal, there was still plenty.

The baron had previously collected a million kilograms of grain for him, burning through most, and there was still quite a bit stored in the basement.

As for coal, it was even more abundant.

Dazhuang and his team mined a lot while excavating the Mole Man Mine and Lanpuli Cave, both large mining sites.

The current reserves still amount to hundreds of thousands, enough to last him several months.

Plus, his energy tower now uses energy crystals, making coal a low-level energy.

Nevertheless, this sparked a different idea in Cao Xing.

Of course, it’s not to take advantage of this opportunity to trade coal and food for rare survivor resources.

Not necessary, because if he wants, there are many ways to extract valuables from them.

After all, Cao Xing still has a lot of Saber-toothed Tiger Meat and Lizard Dominator Meat in his backpack waiting to be sold.

Cao Xing’s goal is to help more people survive the fog disaster.

When other survivors’ strengths increase, they can acquire more precious resources and become sustainable sources of growth.

Cao Xing pondered: ”In these eight days, resource points must have refreshed once.”

”And these resource points refreshed by the system aren’t far from the territory. The farthest is about two kilometers, and the nearest is just one kilometer.”

”Last time, through that Cai Ze’s livestream, it was clear he didn’t encounter any danger when near his territory.”

”Until he recklessly stepped into the thick fog.”

”That is to say, during the daytime, we can actually try to mine these veins.”

Of course, doing this has risks and requires a safety plan.

Cao Xing quickly figured out a method.

That is, to use a long rope, tie it around the workers, then have another group hold the other end, ready to pull the outside people back to the territory at any time.

He decided to give it a try.

So, Cao Xing quickly headed to the Blacksmith Shop and took out dozens of Human-faced Tree Vines.

These tree vines are extremely tough and long enough. Connecting them creates a rope stretching two or three kilometers long.

After doing this, Cao Xing then went to the top of the territory wall, scanning the surroundings.

He quickly spotted, about seven or eight hundred meters away, a vaguely visible resource point.

On the other side, about a kilometer away, was a small forest.

These are all system-refreshed resource points.

”Next, let’s test this method.”

With that, he raised his magic wand again and summoned two Frost Elves.

After all, they’re summon creatures, and their death wouldn’t result in any loss.

Then, he wound one end of the vine around the neck of one Frost Elf.

With a thought, he controlled it to proceed into the distant fog.

The Frost Elf floated, gradually entering the fog until it reached the mining area.

Cao Xing didn’t stop.

After advancing about two kilometers, he quickly made the Frost Elf return.

When he saw the two Frost Elves appear unharmed, delight showed in Cao Xing’s eyes.

”Haha! It really works.”

”Indeed, as long as you don’t stray too far from the territory, you won’t encounter danger!”

”In this way, resources can be mined during the day.”

Cao Xing wasn’t particularly focused on these small resource points.

The purpose of doing this was just to experiment with feasibility for other survivors.
